Manchester United fans react to rumours of Bale-Pogba swap

[ad_pod ]

Just when you thought the Gareth Bale to Manchester United rumours had finally gone away, they just find a way of coming back up.

The Welshman’s name has been on the radar of the Red Devils for almost every transfer window since joining Real Madrid back in 2013, but a move to Old Trafford has never come to fruition.

Now, Spanish publication MARCA claim that Madrid’s pursuit of Paul Pogba this summer has given Los Blancos the idea of potentially sending Bale in the opposition direction to try and sweeten the deal.

After hearing that Bale could be coming in to replace Pogba, United fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the matter and many were rather unimpressed by the whole thing.

Red Devils supporters insisted that despite their previous interest in the former Tottenham star, his recent lack of form, and history of troublesome injuries had turned him into a very unattractive proposition.

Indeed, having seen their struggles with paying huge wages to under-performing stars like Alexis Sanchez, United fans seemed keen to point out that signing Bale would simply give them another problem akin to the Chilean.

Check out some of the reaction of United supporters below:

Crystal Palace: Roy Hodgson is being wise by looking at central defenders

Last season was probably one to forget for Jean Michael Seri, with the 27-year-old having really struggled as Fulham went on to see relegation back to the Championship.

Even so, Seri is still a very good technical player, as he showed at Nice prior to his move to Craven Cottage. Based on that, the Ivory Coast international is probably one of the more exciting names currently being linked with Crystal Palace.

In contrast, Eintracht Frankfurt loanee Martin Hinteregger is likely to be a name that has left some supporters feeling pretty underwhelmed. He is currently attracting interest from the south London club, according to SportBild (via Sport Witness), and is not expected to cost a fortune.

Indeed, the Augsburg-owned player is not the most exciting of potential signings. However, he could prove to be a useful addition if his second-leg performance against Chelsea in the Europa League semi-final is anything to go by, with the Austrian’s sturdy defending on the night earning him a 7.17 match rating on WhoScored.

That alone, though, will not be enough to convince Crystal Palace supporters of Hinteregger’s quality. But for now, that is arguably not the most important thing.

Rather, it is the fact that the Eagles seem to be looking for a new central defender. As well as up front, it is an area of Roy Hodgson’s squad that could do with some fine-tuning.

Both James Tomkins and Scott Dann are in their 30s while Mamadou Sakho, who will also be 30 next year, has had trouble with injuries. Last season, the Frenchman picked up a serious knee injury in a 4-1 win over Leicester City having damaged his calf and ligaments prior.

When you consider all of that, targeting a new centre-half this summer is a smart move.

Crystal Palace fans, do you want to see Hodgson add a new defender to the squad? Would you be happy with Hinteregger? Let us know in the comment section below!

Predicted XI: How West Brom could look under Bruno Labbadia

[ad_pod ]

Last week Sky Sports claimed that West Brom were going to approach Bruno Labbadia over their vacant managerial position.

The German saved Wolfsburg from relegation last season before guiding them to an impressive sixth place in the Bundesliga this term.

However, with his contract set to expire, he will leave his post imminently. West Brom are looking to capitalise on that and Technical Director Luke Dowling is now set to meet with the 53-year-old, per Express & Star.

So with Labbadia potentially walking through the doors at the Hawthorns, how could Albion look next season?

At Wolfsburg this term Labbadia favoured a very attacking 4-3-3 which is something Baggies supporters can expect to see more of in 2019/20 should he join.

On the final day of the German season, his side beat Augsburg 8-1 so that gives a flavour of just how effective it can be.

The former Hamburg boss had his team playing an expansive and open game which should excite those attending the Hawthorns as West Brom aim to get promoted.

It’s set to be a busy summer for Albion with Dowling confirming that as many as five players could walk through the exit door. That’s alongside those whose contracts will expire.

It’s not yet known who may leave but the most recognisable change from Jimmy Shan’s tenure is the lack of a back three, meaning that Ahmed Hegazi and Craig Dawson could form the pairing in defence. That’s despite the latter attracting the interest of Burnley.

The options out wide could be particularly exciting and Labbadia may be the manager to finally get the best out of Oliver Burke. He’s been poor on loan at Celtic but now seems as good a time as any to utilise him again in England.

Academy products Sam Field and Kyle Edwards could be the beneficiaries of players departing over the summer and both start in our predicted XI.

Chelsea: Turning to Jose Mourinho would be a huge mistake

It was going to happen sooner or later, right?

With Jose Mourinho out of work and Chelsea on the lookout for a new manager as Maurizio Sarri finalises his move to Juventus (via Sky Sports), it was surely only a matter of time before the 56-year-old’s name entered the conversation.

According to The Sun, Mourinho would seriously consider taking up the reins at Stamford Bridge for a third time if the opportunity presented itself. And from his point of view, it makes perfect sense.

With the Juventus job about to be filled and nothing currently available at the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea are the only club presently who can offer their former coach Champions League football, a strongish squad and a large transfer budget.

Why would a manager of Mourinho’s pedigree turn that down? From Chelsea’s perspective, though, turning to the former Manchester United boss would surely be a step backwards.

Last time we all checked, the Blues were trying to become a more adventurous team, hence the appointment of Sarri. Bearing that in mind, names like Mourinho, Massimiliano Allegri and Nuno Espirito Santo make no sense.

Also, let us not forget that Mourinho practically sold off Chelsea’s future for one Premier League title and a measly League Cup.

Had he shown faith in the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Mohamed Salah and actually tried to develop them, who knows where both he and the Blues would be right now?

If Chelsea want pragmatism and another short-term option, then by all means they should go for Mourinho. But just like last time, there are reasons to suggest – following his sacking at Manchester United – it could end badly.

Chelsea fans, do you want to see Mourinho back at Stamford Bridge? Let us know in the comment section below.

Who should take it? Liverpool fans split over who should’ve taken Cardiff spot-kick

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans on Twitter have been arguing amongst themselves over who should’ve taken the penalty in the 2-0 win over Cardiff on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah won the spot-kick after going down under pressure from Sean Morrison, but the Reds’ designated penalty taker James Milner had entered the pitch by that time and made no mistake in converting from 12 yards.

Chelsea fans were giving it large at Anfield on Sunday. Watch their afternoon get slowly ruined in the video below…

However, footage has emerged of Salah appearing to hold onto the ball, where he seemingly wants to take the kick himself – he is tied with Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on 19 Premier League goals in the race for the Golden Boot.

Many Liverpool fans are annoyed with Milner for taking the ball away from Salah and damaging his Golden Boot hopes in the process, although a number of fans have also backed the former Leeds man, saying that he is the designated taker and had every right to take it with the score still delicately poised at 1-0.

The three points should be the main thing for the Liverpool fanbase in such a tense title race, but the penalty debate has become heated on Twitter…

Arsenal fans drool over struggling Reiss Nelson after assisting for England U21’s

[ad_pod ]

Reiss Nelson is one of the most exciting academy products to have emerged at Arsenal in recent years. The 19-year-old is widely considered as a future first-team talent, but his time in Germany has not been as fruitful as fans expected at the start of the season.

Initially, Julian Nagelsmann slowly introduced Nelson into the first-team and his faith in the youngster paid dividends.

The loanee notched six goals and provided one assist in his first seven Bundesliga appearances, impressing fans of both his temporary and parent club in the process.

But the hype which surrounded the early phase of his loan spell diminished after he struggled to maintain his early season form.

First-team opportunities have been at a premium and he has now gone 11 games without providing a single goal contribution.

However, a change of scenery seemed to do the trick for the struggling youngster on Thursday evening, as Nelson provided an assist for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to give England’s Under-21s the lead against Poland.

It was a moment of relief for the goal and assist-shy attacker, and plenty of the Gunners faithful on Twitter took the opportunity to laud his contribution.

And fans of the England national side and the north London giants will surely be hoping he can use his international impact to transform his form at Hoffenheim during the final weeks of his season-long loan deal.

Here’s what the Arsenal fans had to say about Nelson’s Under-21 display:

Opinion: Wolves should keep adding quality and sign this midfielder in the summer

Wolves once again got themselves a fine result this weekend with an excellent 2-1 FA Cup win over Manchester United.

Nuno Santo’s men are putting in some excellent performances on their return to the Premier League, and we here in the Tavern would love to see them win the FA Cup to cap off what has been a fine season for the Molineux club.

However, to keep improving, Wolves need to ensure they keep bringing in top talent and we think that the summer could be a big period for the club if they are to keep going and take their game to the next level.

And one man we feel would be an excllent signing for the club is current West Brom midfielder, Rekeem Harper, who has had a superb debut season for the Baggies since being given his chance by Darren Moore at the Hawthorns.

Harper has been putting in some fine performances beyond his teenage years and a move to the Premier League seems to be the next logical step for the youngster.

Wolves themselves will be wise to keep adding the best talent they can, as if injuries do strike, they do appear somewhat light in some areas of the field.

Harper would bring his talent with him, but theres is plenty to his game to develop too, and his passing, calmness in possession, and potential make him a superb potential signing for Wolves.

TT Battle: Isco vs Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United currently find themselves sitting in fourth position after picking up all three points against Southampton in their last Premier League outing.

The Red Devils have been hugely impressive since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge at Old Trafford, with a top four spot looking likely if they continue to ensure consistency from here on in.

It appears as if the Manchester club have their eye on two attacking midfielders, as United are reportedly (as per Tuttosport, via Daily Mail) considering a swoop for Isco and they’re also believed (as per A Bola, via Calciomercato) to be taking an interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes.

So, let’s compare the two players…

ISCO

Isco has established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in world football in recent years but this season hasn’t been too enjoyable as he’s struggled to enjoy regular minutes, with four goals and one assist to his name.

However, he has the ability to single-handedly change a game and can unlock almost any defence, so his passing and creativity could work wonders for Manchester United. And, he knows how to find the back of the net.

TT GRADE: A-

BRUNO FERNANDES

Bruno Fernandes has been simply sensational in the current campaign as he continues to make all the headlines over in Portugal, with a whopping 23 goals and 13 assists to his name at this moment in time.

He’s enjoying a rich vein of form and he’s only 24 years of age, so he still has his best years ahead of him.

Of course, his ability to produce an outrageous amount of goals and assists makes him a very dangerous asset, and he could definitely take United’s attack to the next level.

TT GRADE: A

TT VERDICT:

When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that Bruno Fernandes is enjoying the rub of the green at this moment in time as he continues to impress in Portugal, while Isco just hasn’t been able to find his feet.

Paul Pogba has been fantastic for Man United this season with an impressive 14 goals to his name, but that’s nothing compared to Fernandes as he’s been more prolific than most attackers in Europe, let alone Pogba. Of course, Isco is extremely talented and he could definitely do a solid job at Old Trafford, but Fernandes’ stats are too good to ignore.
