Ian Rush sends support as Gini Wijnaldum gives back to his home town

[ad_pod ]

Amid all the money and fame that comes with playing football at the highest level, sometimes as a fan you forget to appreciate the kind gestures and good deeds that certain footballers do.

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been a huge proponent of helping children get life-changing surgeries with his charity work, and it appears Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is also cut from the same cloth.

The Dutchman took to

/Byk2FZyouM-/” data-lasso->Instagram to reveal the opening of ‘Cruyff Court Georginio Wijnaldum’ in his childhood neighbourhood of Schiemond, Rotterdam.

The facility will allow children to play football in a safe environment, with the Dutchman hoping that they can learn “valuable experiences” whilst they’re there.

After hearing the news, Reds legend Ian Rush replied to the midfielder’s post and sent him his love and support for the project.

Aside from his excellent work off the pitch, Wijnaldum also enjoyed an impressive campaign on it, and was one of the heroes of the Anfield side’s incredible Champions League semi-final comeback against Barcelona.

The 28-year-old struck the back of the net five times across all competitions, and will be hoping to add more goals and assists to his tally when Liverpool return to competitive action later this summer.

Pundit View: Danny Murphy tips Liverpool to sign Tielemans

[ad_pod ]

Danny Murphy has tipped Liverpool to sign Belgium international Youri Tielemans this summer.

Liverpool have excelled in the transfer market in recent seasons, bringing players like Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to the club for what now look like ridiculously low fees.

The Reds will be busy again this summer, owner John Henry admitted on Friday, and a creative midfielder will likely be on the agenda.

Since losing Philippe Coutinho, the depth in other midfield positions has improved, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the only truly attack-minded player in the middle of the park.

Tielemans scored three times and grabbed four assists in 13 games on loan with Leicester, and Murphy thinks he would be perfect at Anfield.

What did he say?

“The big clubs are always looking at what is next and where to improve,” former Red Murphy told your-promotional-code.co.uk, as reported by GOAL.com.

“Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be back, which is a big plus, he will practically be like a new signing.

“Maybe they will let Milner go and one other. Then coming in, Tielemans has had a good season at Leicester, he can open a team up and I am sure Liverpool would love a player like that.”

Perfect Klopp project

Murphy has correctly identified a position Liverpool need to improve, as for all their attacking prowess they do tend to struggle against deep defensive blocks due to the lack of creativity in midfield.

Tielemans is only 22, but has already performed to a high level in Belgium, France, England and at international level, earning 21 caps for his country.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

Monaco will likely look to cash in this summer after their disastrous campaign, and the youngster’s versatility, creativity and high ceiling will all appeal to Jurgen Klopp.

The German is a magician at taking young, talented players and extracting the best out of them, particularly improving their end product – just ask Salah and Mane, or Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski for that matter.

Could Tielemans be the perfect Klopp project?

What Leeds’ playoff loss means for their pursuit of Daniel James

[ad_pod ]

Leeds’ loss to Derby County was heartbreaking enough for supporters, but now there is salt to rub into the wound as that result has seemingly affected their pursuit of a long term target.

Long term target

The winter transfer window was a frustrating one for the Yorkshire club as they failed to land a number of their targets, meaning that Kiko Casilla was their only addition in January.

Daniel James was very nearly a United player, but the deal fell through at the last minute meaning he stayed at Swansea.

The winger had only played a handful of games for the Welsh club when Leeds attempted to purchase him, but since then his stock has risen substantially meaning a £15 million price tag has been put on his head.

Rumours have been rampant that the Welshman is set for a move to Old Trafford in the summer, and Manchester United may have a much clearer path to signing the youngster now that Leeds’ fate has been sealed.

Not joining the Whites

It seems that the Yorkshire club’s pursuit of the winger will now be over as they can’t offer him Premier League football next year.

Victor Orta showed great ambition by telling James to wait for Leeds’ playoff run conclude before he made up his mind on his future, but now the decision has seemingly been made for him as the Whites can’t compete with the 20-time Champions of England.

The Whites wouldn’t be able to cough up the £15million fee that Swansea are now asking for, and Elland Road is a much less lucrative destination for the 21-year-old now that it has been confirmed that Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be playing Championship football again next season.

"I’ll carry him on my back to Italy" – Arsenal fans hopeful of Xhaka departure

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal fans on Twitter have rejoiced at the news that inconsistent midfielder Granit Xhaka could be set to depart the Emirates for Italy.

The Swiss international featured prominently this season under Unai Emery, making 29 Premier League appearances, but became something of a scapegoat as Arsenal’s campaign crumbled with just one win in the Gunners’ last five league fixtures.

Despite earning a place in the Europa League final against Chelsea in Baku on May 29, Arsenal fans are desperate to see a squad overhaul after the disappointing fifth-placed Premier League finish.

Currently projected to have an approximate summer budget of £40m should they miss out on Champions League football, Arsenal will need major sales in order to fund significant squad development and Xhaka could be a casualty with Inter Milan interested in his services, according to Corriere dello Sport via Calciomercato.

Arsenal supporters expect a much-changed squad to begin Emery’s second season in north London and many on Twitter are excited at the prospect of Xhaka not being a part of it.

Sheffield Wednesday: Progress under Bruce will be measured by next two fixtures

It has been quite a turnaround in fortunes for Sheffield Wednesday over the last three months, hasn’t it Owls fans?

After appointing Steve Bruce as manager in January, the club have gone from strength to strength in the Championship and are still in with a glimmer of a chance reaching the play-offs in May with five games left to play.

However, their progress under the 58-year-old should be measured by their performances in their next two fixtures against Leeds United and Norwich City who are both fighting for automatic promotion to the Premier League. By entering these two clashes as underdogs, it wouldn’t be surprising if Wednesday are able to produce a shock which has a knock-on effect on the race for the top two.

Victories over both of these sides would illustrate that even if the Owls miss out on a top-six finish at the end of the season, they will be in great shape to launch a serious bid for promotion next year.

However, if they suffer consecutive defeats, the hype surrounding Bruce’s arrival may die down a little which is by no means a bad thing as it could identify key areas where the club need to improve in the transfer window.

The fact that they have only lost once in their first thirteen outings under the guidance of the former Hull City manager suggests that they are clearly on the right path and so by giving him the chance to bring in his own players in the summer, Wednesday could set themselves up to achieve success over the coming seasons.

On an individual basis, Bruce will be wanting to illustrate that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level and so by creating positive headlines against the likes of Norwich and Leeds, he will be sending a clear message out to his detractors.

What do you think Owls fans? Will the next two fixtures show just how far your side has come since the arrival of Bruce? Are there any areas in particular that the club need to strengthen in the summer? Let us know below.

NFL revelation shows just why Tottenham fans will be paying more next season

Modern football is a disaster, and Tottenham Hotspur are the evil purveyors of all things wrong in our game.

Picture this: the year is 2030 and the final reasonably priced blocks at *insert any Premier League stadium* have been replaced by cheese rooms, cinema screens, hotel suites, theme parks and gyms. Football has ceased to be about watching the sport and has devolved into a corporate playground within which the fans have become secondary to complimentary drinks and gift bags.

An array of all things sanitised have exploded onto the beautiful game stripping away the pure, unadulterated essence of what makes football so great.

Spurs’ new stadium may be a thing of beauty, and believe us, it is, but it has become a flagship for everything disastrously wrong in the modern game.

The “Tottenham Hotspur Stadium” – until it is otherwise named after some sort of deodorant, coffee brand, energy drink or airline company – boasts a number of pointless gimmicks.

Consisting of a cheese room, a “tunnel club” – where fans can gawp at players through a glass pane like a zoo, a microbrewery because, hey, clubs love fans drinking at games, an in-house bakery (?), a sky-lounge, and the feature we all have not been waiting for: USB ports bedded into the seats – ideal for those wanting to document their experience on social media.

Yes, Tottenham’s new project has become a hotbed for modern ploys. The stuff average lifelong fans never asked for but must suffer the consequences of.

According to TalkSport, most matchday tickers at £10 more than they were at Wembley, whilst Category B and C tickets are 30 to 50 per cent more expensive than they were at White Hart Lane. Fans being priced out of the game. Again.

If the aforementioned did not shock you enough, however, brace yourself for Spurs most recent announcement.

The Sun have reported that Tottenham are keen on hosting the Super Bowl and want to be ‘home the first NFL team outside the US’

“From the start we’ve had NFL  in mind,” said the club’s head of business development Aidan Mullally.

“The anchor tenant is Tottenham Hotspur, but this is designed to be a permanent home for the NFL outside the US.”

But why? What benefit will this bring to the lifelong fans of Tottenham? What will the average supporter gain from their increased ticket price? Why are Tottenham so utterly obsessed with satisfying the needs of other fans before their own?

There are so many questions that need answering.

Aston Villa fans want Kortney Hause on a permanent deal

[ad_pod ]

Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish rightly received the plaudits for his conduct and indeed his winning goal against Birmingham City on Sunday afternoon.

Indeed, the midfielder showed incredible restraint not to react to the pitch invader who struck him on the back of the head in the first half of the derby.

Grealish went on to score the only goal of the match, but Villa needed a strong performance from their back four to collect what was a huge three points.

Villa’s injury problems at the back meant that Kortney Hause had to switch from his left-back role to central defence, with Neil Taylor coming into the XI.

Hause – on loan at Villa from Wolverhampton Wanderers – won 12 aerials and had a pass success rate of 71% against Birmingham, according to WhoScored.

Thogden has ranked his top 5 sets of Championship away fans for Pl>ymaker FC. Did your club make the list? Find out in the video below…

The Villa supporters have really taken to the 23-year-old in recent weeks.

And a huge number have been on social media urging the 6ft 2in ace to move to Villa Park on a permanent deal at the end of the season:

Celtic: Srdjan Babic would certainly be a statement signing

The problems are just never-ending for Celtic at the moment.

Brendan Rodgers’ departure seems to have set in motion one issue after another and, even though they look set to finish this season on top, the Hoops need some serious rebuilding in the summer.

Among the various places of reinforcements lies their defence. Particularly, it’s the central defence they’ll simply have to look to improve upon. With Dedryck Boyata presumably leaving on a free transfer after running down his contract and Filip Benkovic returning to parent club Leicester City, Celtic’s defensive core will be gone.

The Hoops are looking for replacements and have allegedly found one. According to reports from CNN Turkey, Celtic are looking to sign the Serbian defender Srdjan Babic. A revelation for Red Star Belgrade this season, the towering Serb’s attracted a lot of attention from clubs around Europe.

While he only made three appearances in the Champions League, Babic’s stellar work in the league has quite clearly made him a hot property. The 22-year-old’s not only just a natural in aerial challenges, but he’s also assertive and agile enough to tackle mobile forwards pretty well. Indeed, his ability to track back, mark forwards out the game and physically outclass opponents makes him a perfect fit for the Scottish Premiership.

Clearly, he’d be a statement signing. With Celtic so badly needing to bridge the gap between domestic dominance and European success, Peter Lawwell must afford whoever gets the job over the course of the summer the cash to sign a player of this calibre to truly improve.

The physicality of the league’s well known and an intimidating figure like Babic could make opponents keep fearing Celtic. A young defender on the rise to stardom, the Serbian could draft in perfectly to make sure Boyata or Benkovic’s reliable presences aren’t missed.

Celtic fans, do you feel Babic can be an able replacement to Boyata or Benkovic? Join the discussion by commenting below.
