Daniel Sturridge in good spirits in holiday snap after release from Liverpool

[ad_pod ]

Has there been a player more unlucky in recent seasons when it comes to injuries than Daniel Sturridge? Jack Wilshere perhaps runs him close or maybe even on a par with the striker, but it’s fair to say the 29-year-old hasn’t quite had the luck of the draw.

After another season where injuries have riddled his campaign, it was no surprise to see Liverpool officially confirm that they will be releasing the England international when his contract expires at the end of this month.

Despite the news he’ll no longer be at Anfield, Sturridge appears to be in good spirits preparing for his release and took to

/BynmiyjA9XA/” data-lasso->Instagram to reveal him relaxing on holiday.

Even with his horrible luck with injuries, reports in recent weeks have suggested that Sturridge will still have plenty of suitors for his signature, particularly with the incentive of him signing him on a free transfer.

Links with a move to the MLS have transpired, whilst there have also been claims that Premier League sides are keen on keeping him in English football.

If  he can keep fit – and with Sturridge it really is a massive if – then there is no doubting that at 29, Sturridge still has plenty to offer in the top-flight.

Waste of money: Everton fans react to Santiago Sosa speculation

[ad_pod ]

According to Ole and The Daily Mail, Everton could land River Plate midfielder Santiago Sosa in this summer’s transfer window.

However, there will be the issue of securing a work permit for Sosa, who has only just made the breakthrough for River.

Indeed, the 20-year-old has only made five first-team appearances for his current club, meaning that sorting out a work permit would be very, very difficult.

Ole have actually claimed that the Toffees have agreed a £13.2.5m deal with River to sign the holding midfielder.

However, it would be fair to say that the news has not gone down well with the Everton supporters – their issue is not with Sosa himself but rather with signing a player who might not actually ever turn out for the club.

It is a tough one and it will be very interesting to see how the situation develops.

A selection of the Twitter reaction from the Everton fans can be seen below:

Wolves wouldn’t benefit from signing Jorge Mendes client Andre Silva

[ad_pod ]

According to Gazetta dello Sport, Wolves remain in pole position to sign Andre Silva this summer.

What’s the word?

Silva has had a mixed season on loan with Sevilla where he arrived last summer after his parent club AC Milan let him go on a temporary basis.

But the Italian giants now seem keen to offload him permanently after paying €38m (£33.71m) for the forward in 2017.

Wolves are one of the clubs to have been touted as a destination over the last few months.

Calciomercato claimed in March that Nuno Santo’s side were interested whilst his agent Jorge Mendes looked to be helping him move to the Premier League per the same publication in May.

Now, Gazette dello Sport – who also mention Mendes’ role in the potential deal – have suggested that Wolves are still in pole position to sign the 23-year-old. The report claims he could be available for €30m (£26.54m).

Mendes mistake

Super agent Mendes has helped Wolves complete some tremendous deals since establishing a relationship with their owners Fosun. The most prominent one that springs to mind is the transfer for Ruben Neves.

Mendes has got things pretty much spot on since entering a partnership with Nuno’s side but by helping them to sign Silva, he’d be making one of his first major errors.

The fact of the matter is that after spending £30m on Raul Jimenez only a matter of months ago, splashing the cash on another striker simply isn’t needed.

Wolves do need more depth but they’d be making a huge mistake in allowing Mendes to convince them to sign his client, especially given his torrid spell in Spain.

The striker scored nine times for Sevilla in the league last season but has only found the back of the net on two occasions since November. That tells you all you need to know.

Raul Jimenez is turning it on for Wolves and Mexico right now! He definitely deserves the song in the video below…

The striker found the net 20 times for Porto in all competitions during the 2016/17 campaign but he hasn’t come close to replicating that since.

Given the club already have a thriving striker in Jimenez, they should be looking at improving other areas of the squad rather than taking a big-money punt on a player clearly lacking form.

Dead to us: Liverpool fans lose all respect for Luis Suarez

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter in unforgiving fashion, after they were left furious having watched Luis Suarez celebrate his goal against them on Wednesday evening.

The Uruguay international played for the Reds between 2011-2014, and scored 82 goals in 133 appearances whilst nearly leading the club to their first ever Premier League title.

There were absolute scenes on Sunday as Liverpool moved back to the top of the league. Thogden was at Anfield to capture the exact moment in the video below…

Suarez left Anfield amicably and is regarded as a hero on the red half of Merseyside – well, he was before he passionately celebrated his strike against them in the Champions League semi-final and attempted to wind the Liverpool players up throughout the game.

The former Ajax forward did admit in an interview prior to the game that there would be ‘no friendship, no mates, none of those lovely memories’, highlighting his ruthless streak; Liverpool fans above all should know how competitive the 32-year-old is, so it is strange to see them turn on him.

Anyway, let’s see what the clearly livid Liverpool supporters are saying about their former No.7…

I want him gone: Tottenham fans slam Kieran Trippier ahead of Ajax clash

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier has attempted to raise the spirits of the club’s supporters ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Ajax in Amsterdam.

However, Trippier’s words have seemingly fallen on deaf ears, with Spurs fans instead taking to social media to have a pop at the England international.

It would be fair to say that the defender has struggled for consistency this season, and there is certainly a chance that he could be on the move this summer.

Tottenham head into the second leg of their semi-final trailing 1-0 from the reverse fixture against a brilliant Ajax last week.

Trippier, who is valued at £31.5 million by Transfermarkt, has insisted that Spurs can secure the result that they need to progress to the final, but the fans seemingly do not want the former Manchester City youngster to play any part in Amsterdam.

Opinion: Signing of Scottish star makes plenty of sense for Sheffield United

Sheffield United lost ground this weekend in the race for promotion as they saw Leeds win while losing at home Bristol City themselves.

The Blades, who have been in fine form for much of the season in the Championship, will be hoping to land a top two spot, but will still know a play-off place is a massive bonus for a club who are only in their second year back in the Championship.

With the summer bound to be another big one regardless of their league, the Blades are today being linked with a move for Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie.

The 27-year-old has developed into a fine central midfielder in the Scottish league, and with his contract running out, the Blades are looking to swoop and add the impressive all action midfielder to their ranks over the summer.

And we here in the Tavern feel it would be a shrewd move by the Blades to land Shinnie, who would fit in well with the club ethos at Bramall Lane.

In Shinnie, United would be getting a player who is all action and plenty of heart, something that manager Chris Wilder loves to see in his players.

Add to this their lack of options in the middle of the park outside of John Fleck and Oliver Norwood, and Shinnie’s arrival would appear to make massive sense for the club.

The Blades don’t and never will have the biggest budget in the Championship, so signing someone on a free with the ability, drive, and will to win like Shinnie has could well prove to be a brilliant move by the club.

While others are interested, it has to be said that Shinnie and the Blades look like a match made in heaven.

Southampton: Hassenhuttl must call time on Nathan Redmond’s St. Mary’s career

Eight games stand between Southampton and Premier League survival this season.

A dreadful start to the 2018/19 campaign under former boss Mark Hughes saw the Saints consistently produce dismal displays of football which more often than not resulted in defeat.

By the start of December, Southampton’s poor form had seen them fall into the relegation zone which forced the club’s hierarchy to make the decision to bring an end to the Welshman’s brief spell at the club by replacing him with former RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hassenhuttl.

Since the Austrian’s arrival, the club’s fortunes on the pitch have improved significantly as they have picked up 21 points from 16 games bringing their total for the season up to 30. The likes of James Ward-Prowse and Danny Ings have thrived under the guidance of Hassenhuttl yet his influence has not had the desired effect on others with one player in particular standing out from the rest.

Nathan Redmond was once tipped to be one of England’s brightest prospects whilst coming through the ranks at Birmingham City having burst onto the scene as a teenager in 2010. A move to Norwich City three years later saw him develop his talents further, helping the Canaries achieve promotion to Premier League via the play-offs.

Despite being unable to save his side from relegation in the following season, Redmond produced a number of impressive performances in his debut campaign in England’s top tier which attracted the interest of Southampton.

The south-coast based side agreed a deal with Norwich to sign the winger in 2016 and early signs were promising as he scored seven Premier League goals which contributed to an eighth-placed finish for the Saints.

However, in the past two seasons Redmond has failed to match these totals as his form has notably regressed. This can be illustrated by the fact that he only scored once in all competitions last season and has just three goals to his name in the Premier League during the 2018/19 campaign despite making 30 appearances for the Saints.

Although he is still an undeniably talented player, his inconsistencies in a Southampton shirt could see Hassenhuttl call time on his career at the club. Any decision surrounding Redmond’s future will ultimately come down to whether the former FC Inglostadt boss believes that he can finally add some much-needed end product to his game on a consistent basis.

Regardless on whether the Saints are playing in the Premier League or the Championship next season, the next nine games could prove definitive for Redmond’s career at the club.

What do you think Southampton fans? Do you think that you should sell Redmond in the summer? Who would you replace the England international with? Let us know below.

Please take him! Manchester United fans react to reports linking Alexis Sanchez with Juventus

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter after the Daily Mail revealed that Juventus would be willing to offer Alexis Sanchez an escape from his Old Trafford nightmare, although he will have to take a wage cut if the deal is to go ahead.

The Chilean international has been a massive flop since his move from Arsenal in January 2018, scoring just five goals in 41 appearances for the 20-time Premier League champions, which makes it all the more surprising that a European giant such as Juventus are interested in him.

Watch the video below to find out what Jesse Lingard is like off the pitch in the latest Match Of The Bae with Emma Conybeare…

Sanchez’s failures are all the more highlighted due to the astronomical figures that he takes home. The 30-year-old reportedly earns a whopping £500,000-per-week in Manchester, a sum that will make it very difficult to find a buyer for the big-money flop.

Understandably, United fans are overjoyed at reports suggesting that the Italian giants could take Sanchez off their hands, as the player who has cost them so much and given so little in return may finally be about to depart.

Let’s take a look at what the United fans are saying on Twitter…

Dortmund’s Jacob Bruun Larsen could be a star for Everton

Everton know they badly need to improve if they want to remain in contention for seventh position in the Premier League.

That’s a place that could potentially allow them again to compete in the Europa League next season – depending on the FA Cup success of the top six – but after a poor run of form, that now seems like a big ask.

Marco Silva hasn’t had the best of starts at Goodison Park, certainly not the one he would have wanted anyway.

He hasn’t been helped by the inconsistency of his players on the pitch either, something he could do with changing given the chance in the summer.

Forward players seem to be very necessary additions for Everton and a player who may do very well with a move to England is Borussia Dortmund’s, Jacob Bruun Larsen.

Larsen, (who is valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt) has found opportunities rare this season for the Bundesliga table-toppers.

Since the arrival of winger Jason Sancho has revamped the way in which Borussia Dortmund play, Larsen has made just 12 starts in all competitions, whilst compiling three goals and two assists.

The 20-year-old was extremely highly-rated coming through the youth system with Dortmund, where he was a persistent threat in-front of goal and regularly scoring.

Now, a move away would probably be considered best for his development and although young, he could have what it takes to be a hit in England.

He can play on either wing and through the middle as an attacking-midfielder, giving Everton further chances to embed him within their side.

Some may think that Everton already have enough wingers and quantity they may have but quality is another issue.

Jacob Bruun Larsen would be a fix and a potential star if given the opportunity at Goodison Park.

Do you agree… Let us know!
