وعاد آرسنال للتقدم من جديد عن طريق البرازيلي جابرييل جيسوس، حيث سجل الهدف الثاني للضيوف في الدقيقة 45، برأسية رائعة، بعد تمريرة عرضية من بن وايت.

ومع بداية الشوط الثاني، وتحديدًا في الدقيقة 49، نجح لوتون تاون في فرض التعادل مرة أخرى على آرسنال، من خلال ركنية جديدة، استغلها إيليا أديبايو وسددها برأسه في شباك الخصم، بعد خطأ من الحارس ديفيد رايا الذي لم يتصد للكرة جيدًا.

وكاد كاي هافيرتز أن يسجل هدفًا قاتلًا في الدقيقة 85 من عمر اللقاء، بعدما سدد كرة رأسية قوية، ولكن الحارس تألق وأبعدها.

واحتسب حكم المباراة 6 دقائق كوقت بدلَا من الضائع للشوط الثاني، حيث تمكن ديكلان رايس من تسجيل هدف فوز قاتل في الدقيقة 97، مانحًا الضيوف النقاط كاملة.

بتلك النتيجة، ارتفع رصيد آرسنال إلى 36 نقطة في المركز الأول، بينما تجمد رصيد لوتون تاون عند 9 نقاط في المركز السابع عشر.

A four-wicket burst from Shrikant Mundhe helped Maharashtra dismiss Haryana for 176 in Rohtak, meaning that his team need 208 on the final day for an outright victory. Maharashtra, who had been bundled out for 105 in their first-innings to hand Haryana a narrow lead, began brightly on day three, as a number of quick blows from Samad Fallah (2 for 42) and Anupam Sanklecha (3 for 63) reduced Haryana to 87 for 5. Sachin Rana and Kuldeep Hooda chipped in with thirties to lead a brief recovery, but Mundhe collected 4 for 36 to wreck Haryana’s lower middle order. Maharashtra were 9 for 0 when stumps were called.

Beginning on an overnight score of 264 for 2 after Vineet Saxena’s 118 on day two, Bist was caught behind for 99 early in the day, having stroked 11 fours. Menaria, though, remained unbeaten on 100 and put up big stands worth 77 and 70 for the fourth and fifth wickets with Rajesh Bishnoi and Arjit Gupta. Saurashtra lost their opener Chirag Pathak for 20 early in the reply, but Sagar Jogiyani and Arpit Vasavada both raised fifties during a 93-run partnership for the second wicket. Jogiyani was eventually run-out for 68, but Vasavada (56*) carried on and put up an unbroken stand of 57 for the fourth wicket with Divyaraj Chauhan to guide the team to 180 for 3 at stumps, meaning that a draw is the most likely result.

Gujarat, who began the day well-placed at 255 for 4, were driven by Merai, who batted for eight hours and stroked 17 fours during his 328-ball 134. Suryakant Pradhan and Deepak Behera took three scalps each for Odisha, but Akshar Patel’s 50 and a handy Jesal Karia down the order pushed the score to 372, meaning Gujarat had a 147-run lead. Suryakumar Yadav is happy to have “finally played the role of a finisher” for Kolkata Knight Riders. Suryakumar struck an unbeaten 43 off 19 against Perth Scorchers on Wednesday night, carrying Knight Riders to a win – their 12th successive in Twenty20s – from a tricky position. Finishing off a game for his team is something he has always strived to do, Suryakumar said, and he was glad to get the job done despite being under immense pressure.”I feel this has been the most high-pressure game I have played till date,” Suryakumar told . “I have never played the role of a finisher till date for Kolkata Knight Riders. I have been trying for quite some time now to finish games for Knight Riders, but I was never able to play that role successfully. I tried finishing games in the IPL as well, but I was making mistakes.”In Knight Riders’ previous game, Suryakumar was unbeaten as the team got over the line, hitting 14 not out off 5. He said he did not consider that innings substantial enough to be that of a finisher, though it did give him confidence. “In the last game against Lahore Lions, though I had a very small role to play in that chase, that innings gave me the confidence that I can play my role to good effect. I carried that confidence into this game.”Against Scorchers, Suryakumar said the pressure really began to mount on him when the big-hitting Yusuf Pathan was out with 27 needed off 15. “That was the first time I became nervous because we all know that Yusuf Pathan is someone who can take the game away from the opposition from anywhere. At that time I remembered one thing that my captain and the coach had told me – “Whenever you keep calm, you can excel more during nervous situations.” That is exactly what I did tonight and the result is there to be seen.”Given his interest in playing the finisher for Knight Riders, Suryakumar said he had more mental tactics to calm himself when under pressure in a chase. “I just don’t think about the situation at that time,” he said. “If I know that I have to score 29-odd runs from 11 balls then I have to do it; it is my job. I feel thinking about the pressure situation will only result in adding more pressure on myself. Instead I think about other things like ‘what will I do after winning the game’, ‘what would an experienced player have done if he was in this situation?’ I follow that and then take it from there.”In the Scorchers game, Surayakumar said it helped that the penultimate over was bowled by Nathan Coulter-Nile, whom he had previously played with at Mumbai Indians. “I had an idea about his stock balls in the death overs, since I have played him when we both were a part of Mumbai Indians. I knew he had a good yorker and a slower delivery, which he might try and bowl at that point of time. He had bowled a slower bouncer before in that over. He then backed himself and bowled a length ball which had to be hit, so I hit it and it was all over.”Suryakumar took 15 off that Coulter-Nile over, including two sixes, bringing the equation down to a very-manageable five needed off the final over, and the win – and Knight Riders’ place in the semis – was sealed with two balls to spare.

Sri Lanka Cricket’s hunt for a head coach has gained momentum with around 10 applications, including ones reportedly from former South Africa coaches Mickey Arthur and Ray Jennings.*SLC had advertised for the positions of head coach, fielding coach and trainer on their website in the last week of July, as they look to fill the vacancies of Paul Farbrace, fielding coach Ruwan Kalpage and trainer Darshan Weerasinghe respectively. The closing date for applications is August 10.However, Marvan Atapattu, who has been serving as the head coach, following Farbrace’s resignation in April, has still not formally applied, according to SLC CEO Ashley de Silva.”Marvan has still not applied for the post and today is the final day,” de Silva said. “Normally when a post is advertised you are supposed to apply, but Marvan has already done that earlier and because he is already in the system he may not have applied.”Some have applied to become head coach and others as consultant. We have to sort them out by next week.”Sri Lanka had appointed Farbrace as coach in December last year, following Graham Ford’s decision to step down. Farbrace, however, resigned in April to take up a role with the ECB and is now assistant coach to Peter Moores in the England set-up. Kalpage, was involved in some coaching capacity with the national team for the last ten years, had recently found his job in limbo after SLC announced a coaching shake-up. Kalpage, who was serving as acting assistant coach to Atapattu, has taken up a role as Bangladesh’s assistant and spin-bowling coach.Other individuals who have reportedly applied are: former South Africa allrounder Lance Klusener, former Surrey coach Chris Adams, Australia’s Shane Duff, former New Zealand coach Andy Moles, former England batsman Mal Loye, former Victoria coach Simon Helmot and Somerset’s director of cricket, Dave Nosworthy.Loye, who currently coaches at Wellinborough School in Northamptonshire, also recently showed interest in coaching the Netherlands side, but was eventually deterred by the financial situation in Dutch cricket. “”I was advised to apply a few weeks ago [for the Sri Lanka job],” he told ESPNcricinfo. “International coaching is something that has always appealed to me.”Eric Simons, Paddy Upton and Craig McDermott were reportedly in the fray but all three have denied considering the coaching job*. Umar Gul, the Pakistan fast bowler, has expressed interest in filling the vacant post of national Twenty20 captain, though he insisted he first wants to return to top form. The PCB has been looking for a Twenty20 captain since the World T20, after which Mohammad Hafeez stepped down.Gul, 30, is a vastly experienced T20 player but had a difficult 2013 when he was sidelined by injury for nine months, before returning in December. Doubts over his fitness resurfaced when he withdrew from the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka in January. However, he continues to make the limited-overs squads and is currently the world’s second highest T20 wicket-taker and one of the most senior players in the Pakistan squad.”I also wish to be a captain so that when I retire I will be remembered as former captain,” Gul told reporters at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. “But it depends on PCB what they think. I want to return to performing like I used to in the past, and if so then why not (consider the captaincy). But I have no issue playing under any captain, either the senior or junior, and recently I have fully supported Hafeez as well.”Gul sustained a knee injury in March 2013 during the second ODI against South Africa in Centurion, and has missed five series since, including the Champions Trophy. Following the injury, he travelled to Australia for surgery and after six weeks of rest, began his rehabilitation.”It’s very difficult to come back after injury in international cricket but still I am lucky enough to survive. Though things were a bit up and down I am feeling much better in this summer camp. I am trying to do hard training more than others so that I could be as much fit as I was before operation.”He took nearly a year to regain full fitness, and has re-established himself in the limited-overs sides, though his Test career remains in the balance.”I haven’t yet decided whether I am fully fit for Test matches but this summer camp will obviously give me a great opportunity to fine-tune myself in the time without international cricket. I can’t say whether I will be fit again (for Test cricket) but I will see later (after the camp) whether I am fit for Test matches or not.”T20 is easier than Test and ODI, in one hour 20 minutes you have to bowl a four-over spell, every player is preferring to play and you don’t need that much fitness for it. But for the sake of fitness and for the ongoing training camp I had turned down an offer from Somerset so that I could prepare hard for the upcoming international cricket.”After the World T20 in Bangladesh ended in early April, Pakistan have no international cricket till August. The PCB decided to hold a month-long summer camp to ensure the players stay fit during the international break. Gul is among 40 players who are undergoing extensive training at Lahore under the supervision of bowling coach Mohammad Akram.While Pakistan’s players are training at home most of the top players around the world are in India featuring in the Indian Premier League. Gul, who was part of the first season of the IPL, rued the missed opportunity. “We miss IPL because we are deprived of sharing a dressing room with the best players in the world,” said Gul. “Being a professional you learn a lot by sharing a bench with players like Hussey and many more. In fact, even our junior players should go out and play such leagues whether it is county cricket, Big Bash or IPL. It will make you more professional.”

Chadd Sayers bowled South Australia to victory over Western Australia with a spell of 3 for 1 from seven overs on the final day in Perth. Set 319 to win, the Warriors had made a solid start and were 2 for 109 when Sayers began to cause problems, removing John Rogers for 31, Will Bosisto for a duck and Cameron Bancroft for 35 in his pre-lunch spell.That left Western Australia wobbling at 5 for 114 and although Sam Whiteman added an unbeaten 47 from 40 deliveries, the Warriors never recovered from the mini-collapse. Sayers returned to claim the final wicket, that of Michael Hogan for 15, to dismiss Western Australia for 210 and wrap up a 108-run South Australian victory.Sayers, who played for Australia A during the year and could be an outside chance for a call-up at some point during the Ashes, finished the innings with 4 for 34 and seven wickets for the match.
