Iniesta's greatest Clasico moments

Ahead of his final game against Real Madrid on Sunday, a look at some of his highlights over the years in the famous fixture

    1Time to say goodbye

Sunday's Clasico clash against Real Madrid at Camp Nou will be Iniesta's last as he prepares to leave the Catalan club this summer. Providing he can shake off a knock, the midfielder will feature in the famous fixture for the 38th time. He has won 16, drawn nine and lost 12 so far and will be eager to sign off with one last victory against Barca's biggest rivals.

2Ovation from Real Madrid fans in 4-0 victory

Iniesta scored with a superb strike, blasting home a right-footed shot into the top corner after he was set up by a Neymar back-heel. That was the third goal in a memorable 4-0 win for Luis Enrique's side and Andres (who also assisted one of the goals that night) was given a standing ovation from the Madrid fans after he was substituted in the 77th minute. Diego Maradona and Ronaldinho were the only previous Barca players to be afforded that honour at the Bernabeu.

3Another goal in 4-3 win in Madrid

Iniesta scored again in a 4-3 win for Barcelona against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2013-14, smashing home with a left-footed shot after another perfect pass from Messi. The Argentine scored a hat-trick, including two penalties, as Tata Martino's men claimed victory in a seven-goal thriller.

4First Clasico goal and another trophy

Iniesta had to wait until his 21st Clasico to score in the famous fixture (in 2011). But like most of his goals, it was an important one as it helped Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-2 in the Spanish Supercopa and lift the trophy after the two teams had drawn 2-2 in the first leg. Andres latched onto a pass from Messi and chipped the ball over international team-mate Iker Casillas to convert in a game that saw Cesc Fabregas make his debut and Jose Mourinho poke Barca assistant Tito Vilanova in the eye after the final whistle.

Pietersen explores batting consultant roles

Kevin Pietersen, skippering St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League while the Investec Ashes takes place without him, is exploring opportunities as a freelance batting consultant

Peter Miller10-Jul-2015As the Ashes takes shape in Cardiff, Kevin Pietersen is 4500 miles away playing for the St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League. While his thoughts on all things English cricket are well worn enough to be known by every fan of the sport worldwide, it is rare to hear Pietersen talk about his experiences as a travelling T20 batsman, how the format is evolving and where the shortest format sits in relation to the Test game.By Pietersen’s own admission he can live without fielding, but the art of batsmanship still excites him. As he reaches the end of his playing career – he celebrated his 35th birthday last month – he says is duty bound to pass on what he has learned.”Your responsibility when you finish is to hand over your knowledge and that is what I have been doing a hell of a lot,” he said. “I did it at Big Bash, I’ve done it at the IPL and I am doing it here at the CPL and it is just amazing.Pietersen takes pleasure when he hears his Zouks team-mate, Andre Fletcher, and others like him, describe him as a role model.”I had a wonderful opportunity working with him last year and adding a hundred and whatever stand the other day against Barbados Tridents batting together. It is just so cool that you can spend time with youngsters like that and grow people’s games and make people feel a lot more confident about the job that they are doing.”When Pietersen does call time on his career he says he is attracted to the role of batting consultant. He says discussions are under way although he would not be drawn on with whom. What he is very clear about is that when he does give up playing he is not interested in a coaching role in the year-round slog that is international cricket.”There are so many other things going on with business and my life that I can never, ever commit to being on the road 24/7 as a coach of an international team. There is no chance: that is not something that I am interested in. But I would be interested in speaking – and I have been speaking to some set-ups – about doing consultancy work which brings me in for a few weeks at a time and helps out with young batters.”Despite having played 127 Twenty20 matches all over the world, Pietersen says he is still learning, and that the process of information-sharing with young batsmen teaches him as much about his game as it does them about theirs.

“You can spend a day on a boat, you can go play golf. You can go and party. You can spend a lot of time with friends. You’ve got the freedom to be yourself”

“Absolutely, you never, ever stop learning. And it is amazing that when you go and spend time with a youngster it just brings back memories of how you played and it also brings back simple techniques that you may have forgotten about and you think ‘I can actually do that now’. I have started doing some of the drills that I have taught others to do.”It is amazing that you think you know everything but that is when you come unstuck in our great game. The stuff that you might have forgotten and you take for granted when you are teaching somebody younger than you and learning the ropes, it brings back brilliant memories and simple basic techniques that you need to perform.”Pietersen is wary of comparing the different franchise tournaments that have popped up around the world, but it is interesting to hear how the events in Australia and the West Indies differ from the IPL. But it seems that the CPL’s reputation for freedom is well earned.”I don’t like comparing the competitions because they all bring positives to the domestic structure, but, yes, there is a lot more freedom at the CPL. It is similar to the Big Bash where you do whatever you want.”You can go out, you can spend a day on a boat, you can go play golf. You can go and party. You can spend a lot of time with friends. You’ve got the freedom to be yourself. Obviously in the IPL it is a lot more strict. I wasn’t there this year but it seems from all reports that it was pretty much ring-fenced and sort of closed off which players don’t like.”Speaking of the Big Bash, Pietersen says that playing in Australia when it isn’t an Ashes contest could not be more different.”Of course, it is hugely different. My relationship with the Australian public now is an amazing one because I am part of the Australian family in terms of the Melbourne Stars, the commentary stints that I did there, and just being about to play as a local in their local league, growing their league, growing their franchises and being attached to something that the Australians take to over a great period of the year.”I have always loved Australia, but obviously in the heat of an Ashes battle it is quite different, but being part of a franchise and having a home in Australia it is totally different.”I had such a positive reception whenever I walked out to bat, if I was commentating, if I was on the boundary, It was totally, totally different. I don’t think they saw me as just a pom, I think they saw me as someone who was there to entertain, somebody who was there to encourage the franchise system, somebody who was there to positively influence the game in Australia.”Pietersen has recently been made captain of his CPL side with the news that Darren Sammy will miss the rest of the tournament with a fractured hand. His association with T20 cricket and the franchises it has spawned grows year on year. Despite this he says Test cricket should remain the way that players are judged.”I think in terms of the not too distant future you will see guys definitely picking T20 ahead of 50-over cricket. I think that the guys that play Test cricket and have great careers in Test cricket are duty bound to talk positively about Test cricket because no one cares about your numbers in T20 cricket, no one cares about your numbers in one-day cricket.”People do care and your true test of character and your judgement amongst your peers is on your Test cricketing ability, not how you whack a little spinner or medium pacer in a franchise tournament.”It is how you deal with Test conditions. That is when you get tested – in Test match cricket – and that is where you are ranked by your peers. When you walk around the breakfast room of a hotel you don’t get judged on your T20 numbers you get judged on your Test numbers.”

Bollinger takes NSW to innings win

ScorecardFile photo – Doug Bollinger’s 5 for 57 was his third first-class five-wicket haul of the past 12 months•Getty Images

Doug Bollinger ran through Tasmania to deliver an innings victory for New South Wales on the final day of their Sheffield Shield match in Hobart. Bollinger collected 5 for 57 as the Tigers were skittled for 213 in their second innings, falling 91 runs short of making the Blues bat again after Peter Nevill’s double-century pushed them to 576 on the third day.Tasmania started the morning on 1 for 139 and seemingly in a good position to play for a draw, but instead lost 9 for 65 and did not even make it halfway through the day. The problems began when opener Jordan Silk was caught behind off Bollinger for 71, and was followed by Dom Michael, who was lbw for a second-ball duck.Stand-in captain Alex Doolan was lbw for 42 to Steve O’Keefe, who also picked up Jonathan Wells cheaply. Bollinger and Nathan Lyon then ran through the rest of the order, Bollinger finishing with his third first-class five-wicket haul of the past 12 months, and Lyon ending up with 2 for 24.

Kevon Cooper reported for suspect action

Kevon Cooper, the Rajasthan Royals allrounder, has been reported by the umpires for a suspect action while bowling certain deliveries, after his team’s five-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians. It is the second time that Cooper’s action has come under the scanner; in 2011, his action was reported during the Caribbean T20 league after which he had to take remedial measures at the University of Western Australia, Perth.Under the IPL Suspected Illegal Bowling Action policy, Cooper may request an official assessment from the BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee, which comprises S Venkataraghavan, Javagal Srinath, AV Jayaprakash and Sanjay Patel, the BCCI secretary. However, pending any clearance by the committee, Cooper would be available to bowl for Royals in IPL 2015. Should he be reported a second time, he would be suspended from bowling for the remainder of that season.Cooper, who joined Royals in 2012, has picked up 39 wickets in 31 appearances over three IPL seasons. He picked up the wickets of Michael Hussey and Kieron Pollard at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, but Royals were edged out of the race for playoffs as Mumbai Indians chased down the 190-run target in 14.4 overs.

PCB likely to back ICC revamp

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to back the ICC revamp at the world governing body’s board meeting next month to give it leverage with other countries, especially India. The PCB is aware, ESPNcricinfo understands, that a pragmatic approach will give it the benefits of bilateral tours it needs in its current situation, while not signing it will increase the sense of isolation. The PCB is the only Full Member to have not extended its support as yet to the governance, finance and FTP changes in the ICC, which were proposed by the BCCI, the ECB and Cricket Australia in February. When the changes, which increase the power of those three boards within the ICC, were first proposed, four Full Members had come out against them: the PCB, the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The proposals have since been revised and were approved by eight of the Full Members on February 8. SLC and the PCB were the only two to vote against it at that meeting, and SLC extended its support to the revamp 10 days later. The PCB’s previous chairman Zaka Ashraf believed the revamp was against the principle of “equality”, and so the PCB, under, Ashraf objected to it. Current chairman Najam Sethi, though, who has been exchanging the reins of the PCB with Ashraf frequently over the past few months due tolegal and political reasons, said it was important to “safeguard” Pakistan’s interests.”I don’t think this is about principles, it is about safeguarding our own self-interests in the long run in world cricket,” Sethi said. “We are the only ones now, left alone [against the revamp]. Whomever I have spoken to says they also initially opposed the changes but later went with it because they were gaining a lot by supporting these changes.”Sethi reportedly met with his Bangladesh and Sri Lanka counterparts, on the sidelines of Asia Cup, in Dhaka. The PCB is keen on negotiating bilateral series with India. “The fact is every country wants to play India because they say it brings them much needed revenues. It is a fact that not playing cricket with India is damaging for us,” Sethi said.Ashraf, however, maintained that the revamp would be unjust to the other members. According to him, the PCB – given Pakistan’s commercial value to world cricket – was offered the chance to side with the ‘Big Three’ and benefit from the original proposals.”The situation is very tricky,” Ashraf told ESPNcricinfo. “The PCB obviously will be the last country [to accept the revamp], but that doesn’t make any difference. The restructuring is still against the basic principle of equality and the ‘Big Three’ will be acting despotically.”The [revised] financial model is based on merely theory and a dummy model [by which no Full Member loses] is shown with a verbal assurance that they won’t let the things slip. They promised that every board would get its fair share according to their commercial value. They also asked us to be the part of the scheme, to make it Big Four, as Pakistan holds a productive commercial value.””The revamped ICC model is bound to fail in the long run,” Ashraf said. “Their bid is to control things and that is what the whole idea was, but there is no indemnity if the structure collapses. And I am afraid the way cricket is being treated, the structure won’t sustain itself in the long run and in the next three years board members, especially the supporters, will start realising this and things will start splitting.”Pakistan have not hosted any Full Member at home since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore five years ago. Despite that, the PCB has been functioning rather well and that shows “the value” of Pakistan cricket, Ashraf said. “Pakistan, in last few years, despite being isolated are still standing tall and the PCB is not in debt as many boards are. No board is ready to help Pakistan at a crucial time to revive cricket in Pakistan. But Pakistan cricket is still going strong.”The world knows the value of Pakistan cricket and this is what keeps us going. Despite the isolation, cricket in Pakistan still a profitable product.”Currently, Sethi is discussing the matter of the revamp with previous chairmen of the board, including Ashraf, seeking their advice on what he has termed a “crisis”. It is understood that all of these former chiefs have suggested Pakistan remain in opposition to the revamp.

Jamaica all out for record low 49 against T&T

Trinidad & Tobago advanced to the Nagico Super50 final with a resounding seven-wicket win over Jamaica at Queen’s Park Oval.

ESPNcricinfo staff13-Feb-20140:00

Croft: To make 49 is very disappointing

Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsTrinidad & Tobago captain Dwayne Bravo made the most of a seaming pitch after asking Jamaica to bat first, leading the way with 3 for 10 in an opening burst which decimated the Jamaicans before they were eventually bowled out for 49 in T&T’s seven-wicket demolition in the first semi-final of the Nagico Super50 tournament at Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday. Bravo was named Man of the Match after his spell left Jamaica reeling at 5 for 4 and their final total was the country’s lowest ever in the 50-over West Indies regional tournament.Bravo’s first strike was in the third over when he had opener John Campbell given out caught behind off a defensive prod. Nkrumah Bonner entered at number three on the back of making 122* against Guyana in his side’s previous match but he only made 1 on Wednesday before dragging a pull straight to Evin Lewis at midwicket to end the fourth over with the score 2 for 4.Bravo took a wicket on the very next delivery to start the fifth over, trapping Kennar Lewis for 2 after the opener played across the line to a full delivery. Tamar Lambert departed without scoring to another leg before appeal from Bravo after not offering a shot and the rout was on.Dwayne Bravo won two successful lbw appeals on the day against Jamaica in Trinidad & Tobago’s seven-wicket rout•WICB MediaRayad Emrit carried on with the work that Bravo started by wiping out the rest of the middle order and tail to finish with 4 for 19, extending his tournament lead to 10 wickets. With the score at 25 for 5, he claimed his first scalp when Jamaica captain David Bernard was beaten for pace attempting to pull and offered a simple catch to Darren Bravo at cover. Andre Russell went for 4 when he edged a drive behind to Denesh Ramdin. Andre McCarthy flicked Emrit to Lewis at midwicket for Jamaica’s top score of 16. The final wicket fell when Andrew Richardson sliced Emrit to the cover boundary where Lewis was stationed for his third catch as the innings wrapped up in just 24.2 overs.Jerome Taylor claimed all three wickets in Trinidad & Tobago’s brief chase. Lewis top-edged a slog to mid on at the end of the first over before Imran Khan was struck in line with the stumps to go leg before as T&T got off to a slightly nervy start at 10 for 2. Lendl Simmons showed a bit more restraint during the power play overs and fell for 21 when his footwork betrayed him and an inside-edged drive was dragged onto the stumps.Captain Bravo was spared in T&T’s sloppy pursuit when a skied chance to mid on was dropped by Bernard in a moment that summed up Jamaica’s day. He finished the match a short time later by whipping Nikita Miller through mid on for a boundary on the first ball of the 14th over. Darren Bravo finished with 23 not out at the other end. The winner of Thursday’s second semi-final between Guyana and Barbados will play T&T in the tournament final on Saturday.
