Man Utd teen who was "beating Yamal" could now replace Amad during AFCON

Manchester United are on a better run of form than ever before under Ruben Amorim. They have now gone unbeaten in their last five games, a momentum that they will be looking to keep up ahead of what is set to be another busy festive period.

They will lose some players next month, though, with AFCON set to start just before Christmas. Bryan Mbeumo, who has been one of Amorim’s best players, will be representing Cameroon, and Noussair Mazraoui will be playing for Morocco, who host the competition.

However, perhaps the biggest loss for United will be Ivory Coast international Amad.

Why Amad will be the biggest loss during AFCON

It has not been easy for every member of United’s squad to find a place they fit into Amorim’s infamous 3-4-2-1 system. Yet, for Amad, that has been at right wing-back, a role in which he has gelled nicely.

The former Atalanta academy star has become a pivotal player on that right flank for Amorim. His electric ability going forward has been important, and his hard-working nature defensively is something which seemingly makes him a real favourite of the United manager on the right.

This term, the 23-year-old has made all but three of his ten Premier League appearances at right wing-back. Amad has grabbed two assists and a goal whilst playing that role, with the pick of the bunch surely the pass which set Mbeumo up to give the Red Devils an early lead at Anfield last month.

As to why Amad might be viewed as the biggest loss during AFCON, well, United don’t really have anyone else who can play that role like him.

If you take the Ivorian out of the equation, Diogo Dalot and Mazraoui, both full-backs, are the only viable options. The latter, of course, will be away on international duty himself.

So, Amorim may be forced to turn to the academy to help solve this particular issue.

United’s in-house Amad replacement

The academy has so often been the answer to United’s problems. Think back to Marcus Rashford’s debut for the club, when the then 18-year-old was drafted into the Europa League side at the last minute.

In The Pipeline

Football FanCast’s In the Pipeline series aims to uncover the very best youth players in world football.

He scored twice on debut, did the same again against Arsenal a few days later, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Well, the person who could step into Amad’s shoes when he is on national team duty is Shea Lacey. The youngster is also a right-winger by trade, a position in which he has shone for their academy this season.

In nine games across all competitions for the Red Devils’ youth sides, Lacey has scored three times and assisted a further two. He averages a goal involvement every 101 minutes, mainly operating as a right-winger.

The Liverpool-born forward has always been a highly-rated player. He has shone for several years in a United shirt, notably “beating Lamine Yamal” to the player of the competition award in a junior tournament, as per GOAL’s Richard Martin.

One reason why the youngster could excel as a right wing-back is his crossing ability. Look at this pass he played for Gabriele Biancheri a few weeks back.

Operating from wide on the right, he’s able to move inside and loft a perfect cross into the path of the Wales youth striker, who scored a lovely goal.

Lacey has impressed against senior sides in the EFL Trophy this term, too. The 18-year-old has put up some impressive numbers, averaging one key pass and completing 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes.

Losing Amad will be a blow to United, especially if this upturn in form continues. However, in Lacey, they might have a ready-made wing-back replacement, who, like Amad, will offer plenty going forward.

It could be seen as a risk to play the teenager in a new role, but if Amorim wants to keep in line with the DNA of the club, it might be something he is willing to do.

➡️Veja tabela do Campeonato Brasileiro-2023 clicando aqui

Revealed: The bizarre reason why Lamine Yamal is now refusing to sign autographs for fans

Lamine Yamal’s life off the pitch is often a topic of discussion and now his decision to refuse autograph signings has hit the headlines alongside the bizarre reason why.

Lamine Yamal's life off the pitch

Yamal has the world at his feet.

He is undeniably the next in line for the same throne that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo left vacated. But at just 18 years old, La Masia’s latest generational talent hasn’t always found himself in the headlines for the right reasons away from the pitch.

In July, the Spaniard was investigated after reports claimed that he hired people with dwarfism to perform at his 18th birthday party. The winger reportedly hosted a party at a rented property in Olivella with guests, YouTubers, influencers and Barcelona teammates.

Following the reports, the Directorate General for People with Disabilities told BBC Sport: “These actions violate not only current legislation but also the fundamental ethical values of a society that seeks to be egalitarian and respectful.

“The general law on the rights of persons with disabilities expressly prohibits the following practices: ‘Shows or recreational activities in which people with disabilities or other circumstances are used to provoke mockery, ridicule, or derision from the public in a manner contrary to the respect due to human dignity are prohibited’.”

Living the party life whilst balancing his place as one of the world’s best wingers has historically not been an easy task for many players, but it is worth remembering just how young Yamal still is.

When asked about his life away from the pitch, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick said: “For me, what counts is that when he’s here, he puts in the effort and commitment. And that’s what he does. He had a few days off after working hard, and I don’t interfere in his private life.”

Why Yamal is refusing to sign autographs

As reported by Mundo Deportivo in Spain, Yamal is now refusing to sign autographs amid reports that he’s preparing to sign a lucrative commercial deal that will see his signature sold exclusively by a specialised merchandise company.

It’s a similar deal to one that basketball legend LeBron James has and one that has forced Yamal to explain to fans why he can’t sign their merchandise when meeting him.

The agreement is reportedly yet to be signed, but both parties are eager to get things over the line in an attempt to ensure that the value of the winger’s signature rises significantly.

In a modern game full of signs asking for shirts in the crowd and fans still clamoring for signatures, the move is almost certain to cause controversy.

For fans, it’s another reminder of the influence of money in the current state of European football, with fixtures heading abroad and now Yamal’s signature being locked behind a hefty deal.

Whether more will follow suit remains to be seen. For now, fans will simply have to settle for a photo with football’s best young player, rather than what is about to be an expensive signature.

+ CONFIRA A TABELA DO BRASILEIRÃO

Emma Lamb, Grace Potts team up for Lancashire win

Lancashire 226 for 6 (Lamb 74, Cross 38*, Threlkeld 35*, Gordon 3-33) beat The Blaze 222 (Claridge 63, Jones 52, Potts 4-37) by four wicketsA half century by Emma Lamb and List A best bowling by Grace Potts helped Lancashire Women complete a Metro Bank Women’s One-Day Cup double over leaders The Blaze at Emirates Old Trafford.Potts’ 4 for 37 led an excellent bowling effort by the Lancashire attack on a slow wicket that restricted the visitors to a below-par 222 all out from 48.2 overs with half-centuries by England wicketkeeper Amy Jones and Ella Claridge.Lamb, the leading run-scorer in the competition, boosted her chances of gaining international selection with an excellent 74 in front of the watching England Head Coach Charlotte Edwards but three wickets by The Blaze skipper Kirstie Gordon threatened to swing the game the way of the visitors with Lancashire 155 for 6 after 32 overs. It took a vital partnership of 71 runs in 15.2 overs between captain Ellie Threlkeld and England all-rounder Kate Cross for the seventh wicket to take Lancashire to a four-wicket victory with 16 balls to spare.Lancashire openers Lamb and Eve Jones came into this match averaging 105 for the first wicket in the competition this season and the pair progressed confidently to post their fifty from just 47 balls after taking advantage of some wayward early bowling by The Blaze. Both played some eye-catching drives and pulls with Lamb dancing down the wicket to drive Gordon for six, so it was something of a surprise when Jones tamely drove a return catch to The Blaze skipper for 33 to end the opening stand at 88 in the 15th over.Sarah Glenn trapped Katie Mack for a duck in the following over and Gordon, playing her first match of the campaign after returning from injury, dragged her side back into the game with two further wickets, Seren Smale stumped for six and Fi Morris caught at mid-off for 3 to peg Lancashire back to 111 for 4 midway through the 21st over.An unperturbed Lamb, who had reached her fifty off 55 balls, reined in her attacking instincts as Lancashire attempted to consolidate but The Blaze continued to squeeze with Ailsa Lister falling to an excellent diving catch at deep midwicket by Kathryn Bryce off Josie Groves for 15.The key of Lamb followed when she nicked behind down the leg side off Kathryn Bryce at the end of the 32nd over to offer The Blaze increasing hope with six wickets down and 67 runs still required. But some good steady batting by Threlkeld (35 not out) and Cross (38 not out) chipped away at the remaining runs, the pair posting their 50 stand off 73 balls, before Cross sealed victory with the winning runs in the 48th over.Early pressure applied by Cross and Mahika Gaur after Lancashire had won the toss brought reward with the wicket of Tammy Beaumont for 11 well caught at mid-on by Fi Morris off Cross.Kathryn Bryce upped the tempo hitting four fours, but that good intent also proved to be her downfall when she drove Sophie Morris to Cross at mid-on for 22 and the left arm spinner was celebrating a double success four deliveries later when Sarah Bryce edged behind down the leg side for 2.A crucial double-strike by Potts increased the pressure with Georgia Elwiss playing on for 19 and Georgie Boyce clipping to Fi Morris at midwicket for 4 with The Blaze struggling at 97 for 5 in the 23rd over.Jones found excellent support from Claridge as the pair rebuilt the innings with a 44-run partnership in ten overs, Jones pulling Gaur for six to reach her half century from 74 balls but caught at fine leg for 52 three balls later when repeating the shot.Glenn sliced Lamb to Gaur at backward point for 12 and Potts, having limped off earlier with a knee problem, returned to trap Gordon lbw for a duck.Groves and Claridge then added a useful 32 runs for the ninth wicket with Claridge progressing to a gritty half century from 68 balls with some nice footwork before she was the last wicket to fall in the 49th over after making 63 of the visitor’s 222 all out.

Vince and Khushdil ace the chase in Karachi vs Multan run fest

An action-packed run fest worth 470 runs that goes down to the last few balls. Every T20 tournament can do with a few of those, and PSL 10 got its on the second day itself. Two centuries too. On a woeful day for bowlers, a 142-run partnership between James Vince and Khushdil Shah separated Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans and took Karachi, the hosts, to the third-highest successful chase in PSL history.Vince, whose purposefulness was evident from the moment he walked out at the fall of David Warner’s wicket in Karachi’s chase of 235, orchestrated the win with a 43-ball 101, while Khushdil, the perfect foil for Vince, kept his end of the bargain with a 37-ball 60 from No. 6. It was a much-needed shot in the arm for Karachi, who missed the playoffs in the last three seasons.Earlier, put into bat, Multan put on a show of their own, posting 234 on the back of Mohammad Rizwan’s fluent century – 105* in 63 balls. Adam Milne struggled to control his swing early on and bled plenty in the powerplay. Hasan Ali drew an outside edge off Shai Hope early in the piece and bowled with superb control in the powerplay, but his two-over spell at the death went for 35 runs.Usman Khan stuck to his chaotic methods and eventually got stumped after getting a start. Kamran Ghulam didn’t let the momentum drop and scored a brisk 36 in 19 balls before holing out in the 15th over. Multan needed a big finish, and they got it from the bat of the in-form Michael Bracewell, who played the kind of innings that he does so frequently for New Zealand, sparing no bowler with a 17-ball 44 not out.Karachi should consider themselves fortunate that even after conceding 22 extras, they kept the target where they could overhaul it. It was a largely an erratic bowling display, especially towards the death.Mohammad Rizwan’s century gave Multan a big total•AFP/Getty Images

In the chase, the spotlight was on Warner and the stage was set for him to get his team off to a flier. Warner opened his account lashing a boundary off David Willey – who had a forgettable day going for 40 in two overs – but his stay was short and streaky. He was undone by Bracewell, trapped lbw, but it was a decision that would have been overturned with DRS, but Warner didn’t opt for it.Tim Seifert attacked from the other end in his pulsating 16-ball 32 and then nicked one through to the keeper off Akif Javed, who bowled the fastest delivery of the day at 147.6kph and finished with 3 for 41.Karachi were in a tricky situation at the end of the seventh over, precariously placed at 79 for 4, but that’s when the foundation of a match-winning stand was laid as Khushdil joined Vince. Together, they took the game away from Multan.Vince raced away to a 23-ball fifty in the 11th over while Khushdil warmed up to the task from the other end. The debutant Shahid Aziz was introduced in the 13th over and was visibly nervous; he was handed the ball at a stage when both batters were well set. Karachi were sitting comfortably at 155 for 4, needing 80 more in seven overs.Chris Jordan nailed his yorkers in the 14th over and pulled things back a bit, and still had two overs left. But for someone with a lot of late-overs bowling experience, he was taken for 21 in the 16th over, and that put the match beyond Multan. Akif lost his control as Vince smashed him for a six and three boundaries in the 17th.Vince and Khushdil weren’t in the middle to hit the winning runs and there was a glimmer of hope that Multan might create some panic, but with only 14 left to score and still some batting to come, Karachi didn’t botch the chase.

'I know that what I was accused of is a lie' – PSG star Achraf Hakimi speaks out on rape allegations and admits his name has been 'tarnished'

Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi has broken his silence on rape allegations as he insists he is being accused of a lie, describing how the claims have affected his family, tarnished his name, and forced him to change his life. The defender, who has consistently denied the charges, speaks candidly about the emotional toll and the precautions he has taken to protect himself and his loved ones.

  • Achraf Hakimi speaks out on rape allegations

Hakimi has faced rape allegations since 2023, when a 24-year-old woman accused him of sexual assault at his Boulogne-Billancourt residence. The case has been widely covered in the media, and Hakimi says the claims are false. In his interview with , he emphasised the personal toll the allegations have taken.

“I have never been subjected to such harm," stressed Hakimi. "For me, it was difficult and it continues to be. Because when you write lie after lie, it hurts, especially for my family. My children are still young. They don't know the internet and they can't read. But one day, they're going to read this kind of thing. And for me, seeing that these lies have been written about their father is not pleasant. And I wouldn't wish that on anyone."

Hakimi claims the case has taken a big toll on his life

Hakimi addressed the media to clarify his stance and share how the allegations have affected his personal life.

"I know that what I was accused of is a lie," he stressed. "I know who I am. I know that I have done nothing and that I will never do that. I have always been at the disposal of the police. I even asked to speak to them to give my version of events. They also have my DNA. I have always been at their entire disposal, unlike the person who accused me, who did not make things easy for those who needed it."

Hakimi acknowledged the intense spotlight that comes with being a professional footballer and emphasised the importance of steering clear of such incidents, a challenge he has addressed by keeping his circle of friends small and carefully chosen.

“As a footballer, I know I'm exposed to this kind of thing. For example, girls approach us. Things like blackmail. In the world of football, a lot of people want to take advantage of us."

He further added: "If you're not surrounded by the right people, it can lead to this kind of thing. After what happened, I changed a lot of things and people. Now, my circle of friends is so small that I don't let anyone in anymore.”

  • The case's legal backdrop

The allegations date to February 25, 2023, when Hakimi’s accuser claimed that non-consensual advances occurred at his residence while his wife and children were away. Although she initially refused to file a formal complaint, police investigations proceeded, leading to Hakimi being charged and placed under judicial supervision. Hakimi reflected on the ongoing process and is hopeful that his nightmarish case will see the light of truth.

"Thanks to the work of the police, we have made good progress," he added. "Today I have peace of mind. Justice is doing its job. We hope that the truth will come out soon."

Hakimi’s legal team plans to use all available avenues of appeal to contest the charges. Meanwhile, he continues to be a regular starter for PSG and Morocco.

West Ham fans revolt! Hammers stage major protest ahead of Crystal Palace clash after dismal start to Premier League season under Graham Potter

West Ham United fans gathered in large numbers outside the London Stadium ahead of Saturday's Premier League encounter against Crystal Palace to demand the departure of the board. The Hammers have endured a torrid start to the 2025-26 season, with the fans having lost their patience with the current ownership. There have been calls to boycott the next home game, too.

West Ham owners urged to step down

Thousands of disgruntled West Ham supporters staged a protest outside the London Stadium, demanding the departure of owner David Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady. Chants of “Sack the board” and “BS (Brady and Sullivan) out!” echoed as fans gathered near the directors' entrance ahead of the club’s latest Premier League fixture on Saturday.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportFans threaten to boycott home games

Protest organisers have pledged to march before every home match this season and are calling for a boycott of the upcoming clash against Brentford on October 20. The unrest follows a letter of no confidence sent to the board earlier this month, to which the club responded with a 1,376-word statement detailing recent investments in the squad and infrastructure.

Despite West Ham's poor home form – winless at the London Stadium since February – protest leaders insist the demonstrations are not purely results-driven. Instead, they point to longstanding frustrations over the club’s management and the controversial 2016 relocation from Upton Park to London Stadium. Protesters even carried banners which read, "Long Live The Boleyn," a reference to their former home ground for 112 years.

Frustration boiling over among players and Potter

The season began with an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to newly-promoted Sunderland, followed by a 5-1 shellacking against head coach Graham Potter's former employers, Chelsea, at home. In the post-match press conference, Potter's emotions seemed to have gotten the better of him, with the West Ham boss interrupting one of the journalists by telling him "there's a lot of other people here that might want to ask a question."

Even the players have struggled to maintain their composure. In August, Jarrod Bowen had to be restrained by team-mates Tomas Soucek and Alphonse Areola, as well as stewards, as he attempted to confront a West Ham supporter following a 3-2 loss to Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

AFPWill West Ham sack Potter anytime soon?

Following Saturday's 2-1 home loss to Palace, English media are reporting that the club is seriously considering sacking Potter. The ex-Brighton and Chelsea head coach infamously holds the record of earning the lowest points from his first 10 home games among any West Ham manager in history. Reports suggest that 42-year-old Gary O'Neil is being eyed as Potter's replacement, with the London-based outfit reeling at 18th position after four losses from their first five Premier League games.

Welsh Fire secured by Washington Freedom owners in £67.5 million valuation

Sanjay Govil, US tech entrepreneur, submitted the higher of two sealed bids in a process on Friday evening

Matt Roller31-Jan-2025Sanjay Govil, the US-based tech entrepreneur and owner of Washington Freedom, is set to buy a minority stake in Welsh Fire, the Cardiff-based team in the Hundred. ESPNcricinfo understands that Govil submitted the higher of two sealed bids in a process on Friday evening which was delayed by the three-hour bidding war for London Spirit.ESPNcricinfo understands that the winning bid valued 100% of the Fire at £67.5 million, implying Govil will pay just over £33m for his minority share in the team.He will now enter a period of exclusivity with Glamorgan, the Fire’s host county. The two parties will negotiate contractual details with the help of the ECB and their advisors over the next eight weeks.
