Tottenham fans react as no sign of Troy Parrott in Champions League training

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have been reacting to Troy Parrott’s notable absence from the club’s Champions League training session ahead of hosting Olympiacos in north London on Tuesday night.

The 17-year-old may be yet to make either his Premier League or European debut for the first team, but he was often involved in training at this stage when Mauricio Pochettino was manager, even if he then featured for the U19s in the youth league on the afternoon before the senior fixture.

There was no sign of the teenager in what was Jose Mourinho’s first Champions League session as Spurs boss though, which understandably raised some concerns from supporters.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United chief hasn’t exactly been known for his positive work with younger players throughout his managerial career, but his praise for the academy shortly after his appointment suggested he may be open to changing his ways.

The absence of Parrott may suggest that isn’t the case so far, although to be fair to the 56-year-old Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga were both present at Hotspur Way on Monday.

That didn’t stop Tottenham fans commenting, and while one said they “do worry” about Parrott who has been linked with moves to Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, another individual was “shocked” that he wasn’t involved.

Sheffield Wednesday fans laud Morgan Fox after Stoke City victory

Sheffield Wednesday moved to third in the Championship despite not being at their best against Stoke City on Tuesday night.

The game wasn’t one for the purists with just five shots on target all match, but it certainly wasn’t aided by the stop-start nature of the first half as the visitors were forced into two early substitutions because of injuries.

Massimo Luongo scored his second goal in three matches right before half-time in what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

The 27-year-old was found by Morgan Fox with a nicely-timed long ball, and he pounced on Liam Lindsay’s error to slot past the Potters’ goalkeeper.

Garry Monk has now steered his side to 14 points from a possible 21 since taking charge at the start of September as they currently sit just three points behind league leaders West Brom.

It’s also a third clean sheet for the side with them seemingly being able to cope in the absence of skipper Tom Lees.

Fox was handed a rare start by Monk, having only featured in six Championship matches this season, and his role in the victory has drawn considerable plaudits from sections of the Hillsborough faithful.

One supporter claimed the 26-year-old shut the moaners up by playing out of his skin while another added that he was ‘as solid as a rock’ in defence.

‘Outstanding,’ ‘faultless,’ and ‘brilliant’ were just three other superlatives used to describe his performance with one even believing it was the best game he has ever had in the blue and white stripes after joining the club in January 2017.

Here’s the best of the reaction:

Tottenham fans want the club to sign Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell got the nod to start against Danny Rose against Bulgaria on Monday and it has led some Tottenham fans to say they want their club to sign him.

Many were impressed with the Leicester man’s display in Sofia, and therefore believe that bringing him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would be an upgrade on what they currently have.

The Telegraph reported that Spurs were “keeping tabs” on the England international, but it is believed that Leicester would hold out for a large fee – potentially around £75m – in order to let him go.

Chilwell has more than four years remaining on his current contract and with the Foxes harbouring hopes of a top-six finish, it is not difficult to envisage a hefty price being demanded for his services, particularly as Harry Maguire moved for £80m over the summer.

However, that hasn’t prevented Spurs supporters from making their feelings known, with one suggesting he’d be a “huge upgrade” on Rose, and therefore perhaps believing he’d be worth the potential fee given he is 22 years of age and with a ceiling to improve.

Here are some of the calls for the club to try and sign Chilwell.

West Ham United Roundup: Neville on top six chances, Gold questions VAR, trial for Arsenal youngster

In today’s West Ham United roundup, we take a look at what news has been making the headlines for the Hammers. Gary Neville believes the Hammers have a good chance of making the top six after defeating Manchester United, chairman David Gold questions VAR, and Arsenal are willing to let Stan Flaherty undergo a trial at West Ham.

Gold questions VAR

Report: West Ham chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to call for a rule change in red card situations now that we have the addition of VAR. Gold believes teams should be able to appeal the second yellow card, after Arthur Masuaku’s double yellow against Aston Villa.

He tweeted: “Would it be fairer to be able to appeal a red card following two yellows after all he and the club could be punished twice, once for the sending off and two for the ban from the next game when on reviewing the incidents one of them was not worthy of a yellow.”

Verdict: Whether you love it or hate it, VAR is here to stay and will seemingly split opinions for the foreseeable future. Although, what has been one of it’s biggest flaws is not necessarily the decisions, but the manner in which it is used and what it is used for. For example, referee’s can overturn a straight red card if deemed an incorrect decision. However, officials cannot overturn the decision of a second yellow card, despite the outcome of the player leaving the pitch still the same as a straight red.

Quite frankly, as Gold alluded to, it doesn’t make sense to have VAR help straight red cards, but not a second yellow – the player will still leave the pitch and a ban will still take place. Truthfully, if we have the technology to right a wrong, it should be used to correct every bad decision and not just pick and choose what can and can’t be helped.

West Ham have a ‘really good chance’ of top six, says Neville

Report: Ex-Manchester United man Gary Neville believes West Ham could make the top six this campaign. He said on his podcast: “If West Ham and Leicester keep their squads fit, they have got a really good chance of getting into that sixth or fifth position.

“I looked at Manchester United’s team for instance on Sunday compared to West Ham and you would probably swap quite a few players into it.

“It’s the same with Leicester for the likes of (James) Maddison, (Youri) Tielemans, (Jamie) Vardy, Demarai Gray and others. They would get into this Manchester United team or bench.”

Verdict: It can be argued that this West Ham side has the best chance of cracking to top six since the club finished seventh in 2015-16 under Slaven Bilic. Back then, the club was led by stars such as Dimitri Payet, who scored nine goals in that year. Now, the likes of Sebastian Haller already has three goals, whilst Andriy Yarmolenko has two this season.

In midfield, Mark Noble continues to impress after his Man of the Match for his display against United, alongside Declan Rice who has so far averaged a performance rating of 7.05. Indeed, this West Ham side has massively improved it’s attacking options now and with Manuel Pellegrini at the helm, the club continues to get better.

It is, of course, still early days. Although, based on the poor start to the campaign from the usual top six contenders, the Hammers do have a great chance at finally breaking that top six barrier. It may take a bit of luck and hope of little injuries, but as of now, West Ham fans have a right to be excited.

Flaherty set for trial

Report: According to Football Insider, Arsenal youngster Stan Flaherty is set to undergo a trial at West Ham. The report suggests that the 17-year-old is hoping of transferring from the Gunners to a fellow Premier League club after been given the green light by the club.

Verdict: Flaherty is able to play in various positions on the wing and through the middle, and after scoring two goals and providing an assist in 11 games for Arsenal’s U18’s, the Englishman has seemingly caught the eye of West Ham.

The Hammers would also be bagging a man inform, after Flaherty scored with his first touch last weekend and netted a free-kick towards the end of Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Norwich, as per the report from Football Insider.

It is often good news if West Ham are planning on investing in youth talent, as they have such a positive track record throughout their history in bringing through some incredible players. This transfer could only be good news for both Flaherty and West Ham.

Man Utd fans have brutal reaction to Marcus Rashford’s potential lay-off

[ad_pod ]

Things just don’t seem to be going for Marcus Rashford at the moment, do they? The England international started the campaign in the perfect way with a brace against Premier League rivals Chelsea, but the goals have since dried up considerably.

The striker has netted just a solitary goal after the clash against the Blues, and that was from the penalty spot too. After enduring a particularly disappointing showing against FC Astana in the Europa League – a game where he saw his five attempted shots fail to hit the back of the net – Rashford had an equally miserable day against West Ham on Saturday.

The 21-year-old had no shots whatsoever as he looked isolated from the rest of the team, and his struggles were compounded when he was forced off with an injury in the second-half.

Speaking after the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the academy product would undergo a scan, but that he could be “out for a while”.

After hearing the injury update on Rashford, United fans flooded to Twitter to share their thoughts about the situation.

Many supporters of the Manchester side insisted it finally represents some “decent news”, whilst one fan in particular even hoped for him to be ruled out for the entire campaign.

Tottenham fans would want Massimiliano Allegri to replace Pochettino if he goes

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter want Massimiliano Allegri to replace Mauricio Pochettino if the Argentine leaves Spurs.

There is no doubt that the pressure is beginning to build on the former Southampton boss following a poor week and 2019 in general – they surrendered a two-goal lead against Olympiacos before giving up a 1-0 advantage to lose to Leicester City on Saturday, meaning they have won just five of their previous 18 Premier League games.

It seems unthinkable that the north London outfit could consider sacking the 47-year-old given the progress they have made in recent seasons, but no trophy during his spell and a poor run of form on the road isn’t ideal either.

Pochettino walking may not be out of the question either; particularly if he feels he is unable to take the club any further.

Tottenham supporters certainly seem to know who they want if they lose the South American manager, with Allegri the name on many of their lips.

The Italian is currently unattached having left Juventus at the end of last season, departing after five successive Serie A title wins.

One fan described him as “better than Poch and on the market”, while another said “get Allegri in and move on”.

Tottenham fans discuss the club not giving up on Christian Eriksen’s contract renewal

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the news that the club aren’t planning to give up on the idea of Christian Eriksen signing a new contract.

The Denmark international has just one year remaining on his deal with the north Londoners, and reportedly wants to leave the club with the European transfer window still open until September 2nd.

Eriksen was believed to have held talks with Manchester United before the transfer deadline on the 8th August, although no such move materialised – Spurs will lose the 27-year-old for free next summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

The former Ajax man changed the game in just 26 minutes after coming on against Aston Villa, helping turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 victory whilst playing a key role in the equaliser with a devilish delivery.

Let’s see how the Tottenham fans on Twitter reacted to the news that the club aren’t giving up on the 5 foot 11 man’s contract situation…

Manchester United fans react to Solskjaer comments on Mason Greenwood

[ad_pod ]

For first-team stars, pre-season is usually just a way of building up fitness ahead of the start of the new campaign. But for new signings and young players alike, it can be the difference in whether you’re involved or not in the conversation for the opening game.

And in the case of Manchester United starlet Mason Greenwood, it appears he really has taken his chance. Despite it only being the second game of their pre-season, the 17-year-old has earned rave reviews for his performances and it appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken notice.

After scoring in the 4-0 win over Leeds, the United boss admitted that Greenwood had a “chance” to start against Chelsea for the first Premier League game of the season and that he was “more than capable” to do so.

Having heard that the academy product was in line for a huge opportunity, United fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion on the matter and many were rather excited by the prospect.

Red Devils supporters revealed their delight at potentially seeing Greenwood feature against the Blues and thought including him in the starting line-up would give them a devastating attack.

Others however were slightly more reluctant to get carried away and instead urged caution about Solskjaer’s words, saying that more experienced stars could well come back in.
