Colocamos um time exposto.

Haddin on ice for early ODIs

Brad Haddin is set to be stood down from the first bracket of the triangular ODI series against India and Sri Lanka

Brad Haddin, Australia’s senior wicketkeeper and acting vice-captain, is set to be stood down from the first bracket of the triangular ODI series against India and Sri Lanka, affording the Victoria gloveman Matthew Wade another chance to press his case.Wade will be behind the stumps in the two Twenty20 matches against India in Sydney and Melbourne this week, following Haddin’s international T20 retirement, but he is now expected to also take the role for the first three limited-overs matches by being named in the ODI squad to be announced on Monday.Haddin was due for a rest after playing across the home Test summer, though his questionable form was only just starting to trend back up in Adelaide following some difficult days against New Zealand and India. He is understood to be enthusiastic about playing for New South Wales in a pair of fixtures against Tasmania in Hobart, the first a domestic one-day match on Saturday, with a Sheffield Shield game to follow Monday to Thursday. Those matches would give Haddin the chance to build on the starts he made with the bat in the final India Test.Though there has been much speculation about his future this summer, Haddin remains a highly valued member of the Australian team, and a capable lieutenant for the captain Michael Clarke.Haddin and Clarke have formed a strong leadership duo in the absence of Shane Watson, with the wicketkeeper providing plenty of advice in the field as well as offering a strong voice in the dressing room. His contribution to the team is being measured as much by those attributes as by his performances on the field, which lurched into dire territory earlier in the season before improving. He may remain Clarke’s deputy for some matches to come given the doubts still swirling around Watson’s fitness.Pat Howard, the team performance manager, has said the selectors’ criteria for choosing players include leadership and other additions to the team. The successful Tasmania captain George Bailey’s selection as the national Twenty20 captain provided another example of their thinking.”You need sufficient skills to be within the frame, obviously. No one is picked if they don’t perform to be recognised for their core skills,” Howard said. “But then the selection panel [also] considers their contribution to the team, the effect those players are having on the team – are they coming from winning teams? All those things are important to assess what impact those players are having. And obviously John [Inverarity] being able to sit down with the players to hear about who the good leaders are in other teams and getting feedback can add so much to your selection decisions.”Ricky Ponting has spoken about the value people add outside their core skill. Be it their fielding, be it their character and the sort of leadership they produce, and how much they give to a side. To me, it is fantastic to see players supported [by each other]. You see David Warner score a hundred and the batsman at the other end [Ed Cowan] comes up and embraces him because he sees him as an important part of the team. Inverarity talks about adding to the pot more than you’re taking out, and he looks for those characters that add to that team environment.”

A Fiel lamentou.

Kevin Campbell hails Celtic’s team spirit

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has lauded the team spirit that Ange Postecoglou has created at Celtic this season.

The Lowdown: Ange’s superb first season at Celtic

The 56-year-old took charge at Parkhead last summer and has been an immediate hit for the Hoops, impressing with his all-round management at the club.

Celtic already have a Scottish League Cup to their name and the Premiership title is now within touching distance with three matches remaining.

It has been a wonderful season after the disappointment of last term, and it is now a case of getting the job done to round off a tremendous campaign for the manager and the club.

The Latest: Campbell praises Celtic’s team spirit

Celtic’s team spirit has shone through since August, with Kyogo Furuhashi speaking out about the support that he received while he was injured.

Campbell waxed lyrical over that intangible quality to Football Insider as he gushed:

“They clearly have a great dressing room mentality. The team spirit is there. When a player is injured he often feels left out.

“It sounds like the players at Celtic have the right attitude under Postecoglou. The manager has done an excellent job there. Kyogo embodies that. He is a brilliant player and character by the sounds of it.

“The dressing room culture is right at Celtic and that is so important if you want to achieve success.”

The Verdict: Good times for Celtic

It certainly feels as though something potentially special is building at Parkhead, with Postecoglou transforming matters after Neil Lennon’s ill-fated second reign as manager.

The hope is that this is only the beginning, with a likely return to the Champions League next season hugely exciting, not to mention the possibility of new signings that it could attract.

Celtic’s team spirit has increasingly stood out as the season has gone on, as illustrated by the Furuhashi example above, and it is clear that this is a group of players all pulling the same direction. As Campbell has hinted, success can only be achieved if you have that harmony within your group.

Villa missed out on Pjanic in 2011

It’s never good to dwell too much on the past, but for those of an Aston Villa persuasion it may still wrangle that they almost snapped up one of Europe’s premier playmakers in Miralem Pjanic, yet twice failed to get the deal

The Bosnian midfielder had caught the attention of clubs across Europe following a fine debut campaign at senior level with Metz during the 2007/08 season, with the then-teenager netting five goals in 38 appearances for the club.

After just one season with the French side, however, he was plucked by fellow Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, albeit while revealing that he had spurned the advances of others in order to continue plying his trade in France.

Speaking at the time, the youngster revealed that Villa – then managed by Martin O’ Neill – had been one of the clubs he had opted to shun in order to make the switch: “I had requests from abroad, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Aston Villa and Fiorentina, but I wanted to stay in France.”

Having missed out then, the Midlands outfit again turned their attentions towards the free-kick “specialist” – as he has been dubbed by Juninho Pernambucano – three years later, with Alex McLeish keen on adding the player to his ranks following the sale of Stewart Downing to Liverpool.

Again, however, those at Villa Park were to be disappointed as he instead opted to head to Italy, joining Serie A giants Roma in a deal worth just €11m (£9.2m), with McLeish and co eventually signing Charles N’Zogbia that same summer in a £9.5m deal.

Since then, the 32-year-old has gone on to feature for more of Europe’s elite clubs, eventually joining Juventus in a £25.4m deal in 2016 where he would win four successive league titles, before he was moved on to Barcelona in the summer of 2020 as part of a deal that saw Arthur Melo head in the other direction.

While it failed to work out at the Nou Camp in his debut campaign, the 103-cap international has impressed out on loan at Turkish side Besiktas this season, registering two key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in the league, as well as 1.1 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per 90.

A midfielder of all-around quality, he has earned comparisons to Italian icon Andrea Pirlo, with the passing maestro having been one of the silkiest and most technically gifted players in his position in Europe over the last decade or so.

Having been so close to capturing that talent will no doubt be a real punch in the gut for those at Villa, with the club having had to watch on as he adorned the jerseys of some of the continent’s finest clubs.

Everton face injury blow ahead of Spurs

Everton will travel to London today to take on Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur side, and will be hoping that they can cause an upset away from home by stealing all three points to put themselves in a safer position in the Premier League table.

Lampard’s side are in desperate need to win some points in their league campaign, as they currently find themselves just one point off the relegation zone, and with the Toffees clash with Spurs the last fixture of the game week, their position in the table has luckily remained unchanged, giving them the opportunity to put a bigger gap between themselves and the drop zone this evening.

With that being said, the ex-Chelsea boss will be hoping his team can rise to the occasion despite a number of inconsistencies and injury concerns, however one player’s absence could be frustrating for the manager ahead of the challenging game.

Ben Godfrey will be unavailable for the Premier League fixture tonight but is expected to be back in training the day after the game, which will surely be gutting for Lampard, who confirmed the availability of the defender in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Ben Godfrey won’t make Monday’s match but should be ready to train with us in the middle of next week, which is great.

“We’ve lost two big centre-backs [Godfrey and Yerry Mina] from pretty much the moment I came in.”

The 24-year old-central defender sustained a hamstring tear during the FA Cup victory over Brentford just over a month ago and has been unavailable for selection ever since, but there is no doubt his presence would’ve been a huge boost against Spurs this evening.

Godfrey has been one of the better defenders in the team this season, proving to be reliable in his position time and time again.

He’s made 2.1 tackles and 3.5 clearances on average per game in the Premier League, while winning the majority of his ground duels (60%) and is successful in the majority (70%) of his dribbles according to SofaScore, so there is no doubt his defensive attributes will be missed in the team, especially against the likes of Harry Kane.

The 43-year-old coach will need to work with what he has defensively, however Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Demarai Gray will potentially be returning to the side this evening, so Lampard can focus on freshening up Everton’s attacking threat against Spurs.

Leeds had a shocker with Emi Buendia

Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has had his fair share of successes and failures in the transfer market since joining the club in 2017.

The likes of Patrick Bamford, Mateusz Klich and Raphinha are some of the successful additions, whilst the jury is still out on big-money signing Rodrigo.

But what about transfers that Orta failed to get over the line?

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-marsch-raphinha-dest-philhay” title=”Read the latest Leeds news!”]

One player that the club were reportedly interested in signing in 2018 was attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia from Spanish side Getafe. However, instead of joining the Lillywhites, he signed for their Championship rivals Norwich for a fee of £1.3m (Transfermarkt).

He made an immediate impact in England as he starred in the Canaries’ promotion to the Premier League in 2019 at the expense of Leeds. Buendia scored eight goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions as Daniel Farke’s team won the Championship title.

The winger was then directly involved in eight Premier League goals as Norwich were relegated from the top flight at the first time of asking. Instead of leaving the Norfolk outfit, though, the Argentine winger stayed on for another year and enjoyed a sensational season in the second tier.

Buendia won the Championship Player of the Year award as he scored 15 goals and set up a further 17 in 39 outings as the Canaries romped their way to another title. His performances led to him being dubbed a “revelation” by former top-flight striker Chris Sutton, with the midfielder dominating the division.

This form earned him a move to Aston Villa last summer for £33m and he has delivered two goals and four assists in 28 Premier League matches to date for his current club.

At the time of writing (14/04/22), Transfermarkt value him in the region of £31m. This illustrates how far he has come in the last four years, as his value has skyrocketed since he arrived in England from Getafe.

He has proven himself to be far too good for the Championship and he has been a constant threat in the Premier League with his creative passing. Buendia has averaged 1.4 key passes per match this term, having averaging 2.3 for Norwich in his previous top-flight campaign in 2019/20.

Therefore, Orta played a major Leeds disasterclass by missing out on the Argentina international for £1.3m in the summer of 2018. Not only would the Whites have enjoyed his sublime talents on the pitch under Marcelo Bielsa, but they also would have been able to make a huge profit on him – just as Norwich did.
