It’s been a busy start to the week for West Brom who are still no closer to revealing a new manager, something which has left their supporters in bewilderment.
The Express & Star reported that the Baggies are contemplating a short-term replacement for the recently sacked Darren Moore. This comes after former Huddersfield manager David Wagner told them he has no plans to return to football just yet.
Although talks with Slavisa Jokanovic are on-going, fans at the Hawthorns have been left frustrated with a lack of developments. They had been eager to voice their concerns over the initial dismissal of Moore but are now alarmed that no apparent replacement has been lined up.
A new managerial appointment in the very immediate future is looking unlikely and as a result, questions have been asked as to why Moore wasn’t given until the end of the season.
The club icon left with the Baggies sitting in fourth position and in the hunt for a play-off place with instant promotion back to the Premier League on the cards.
However, the way the club has operated since the weekend has left Albion supporters disgruntled.
Arsenal are interested in the prospect of signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin from Mainz this summer, per The Daily Express.
The Gunners, according to the report, tabled a bid for the 23-year-old last summer as they looked to bolster their defence.
And after failing to secure a defensive reinforcement in the January transfer window, it is reported that the club have reignited their interest in Gbamin.
Mainz, the Express report, value Gbamin at around £40million and it remains to be seen if Arsenal will be willing to match that asking price.
Football FanCast look at the potential consequences of the Gunners securing the defender’s services…
Mustafi sold
Shkodran Mustafi has been a walking disaster zone in recent seasons.
The defender has done nothing to mark himself out as a Premier League-level centre-back since his move from Valencia in 2016.
Arsenal paid £35m to take him away from the Spanish club and, after a half-decent start, his stay in north London has been characterised by hesitant defending and a number of high-profile gaffes.
Check out Neymar’s controversial new haircut for 2019 and Xherdan Shaqiri as you’ve never seen him before in the video below…
Bringing in Gbamin is something of a risk, as he has never played Premier League football, but it would allow Unai Emery to move Mustafi on.
Arsenal are not likely to turn a profit on the Germany international, but they can shift him off the books and ensure they do not have to suffer many more mistakes from the 26-year-old.
Arsenal turn to youth
Arsenal have a history of signing young players and embedding them into the first-team. Gbamin is just 23 and his signing could mark something of a change in recent transfer strategy.
The likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are all over the age of 28 and have joined the club in recent seasons.
But securing Gbamin would be more akin to the signing of 19-year-old Matteo Guendouzi, offering fans hope of a potential switch to bringing in younger, more promising players.
It must be said, of course, that the defender already has an international pedigree – he has won five caps for the Ivory Coast and has also made over 80 appearances for Mainz, who are understandably keen to hold onto one of their prized assets.
Emery allowed control over transfers

After the departure of Sven Mislintat as the club’s Head of Recruitment, it appears that some of his responsibility may well fall to Emery.
And that would be good news for Arsenal fans.
Emery has been trying to implement a very specific style in recent months and has repeatedly had to place round pegs in square holes.
Allowing the manager the chance to have the final say on transfers offers up the prospect of Arsenal recruiting players who suit his style, and who can instantly adapt to life in the Premier League.
Gbamin may well be one such acquisition. He was pursued by the club in the summer and Emery now appears ready to go back with another bid.
That is a high recommendation for the young Ivorian, but it remains to be seen if the deal gets done. If it is, Emery deserves a lot of the credit.
Sheffield United secured a sensational result at Bramall Lane on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Championship strugglers Reading. The win kept the Blades in the thick of the title hunt.
The victory was particularly impressive considering Chris Wilder had excluded so many key figures from the starting XI. Strikers Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick were both on the bench, which allowed Gary Madine to play from the start.
Watch the video below to see the most insane overhead kick you will see this week…
Madine joined the Yorkshire outfit on loan from Premier League outfit Cardiff City in the January transfer window. Whilst he has made plenty of appearances for United since his arrival, the 28-year-old has failed to cement himself in the starting line-up. His well-taken brace against Reading ought to see him become more central in his manager’s plans though.
The centre-forward’s strength, power and finishing ability make him a lethal goalscorer at this level. What’s more, with Sharp and McGoldrick both ageing, they’re likely to tire towards the end of the campaign. In their stead, the former Sheffield Wednesday man can step up and play a key role in the Blades’ promotion push.
Loads of Liverpool fans have been reacting to some comments from Jordan Henderson, as the skipper said the Reds are going all out to win both the Premier League and Champions League.
Liverpool are in their best position in years to end their title drought, currently sitting level on points with Manchester City having played one game less than the champions.
Jurgen Klopp’s squad is the deepest it has been since his arrival, but there have still been question marks about the lack of quality back-up options in some positions, most notably in defence.
Perhaps because of the defensive injury crisis, there have been plenty of talks of ditching one competition to focus on the other, but Henderson has absolutely no time for that.
“If we had to choose (PL or CL), we’d choose both,” said the skipper, as reported by GOAL.com’s Neil Jones.
The 28 year-old has been a divisive figure since taking the armband at Anfield, as one the one hand he is one of the most versatile, professional and passionate players at the club, but one the other hand he is not Steven Gerrard.
Fans are all uniting on this one though, praising the skipper for his faith in the side, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
Liverpool fans on Twitter have been green with envy since Tuesday night, when their former midfielder Emre Can put in a magical performance for Juventus in the UEFA Champions League.
The German international, who swapped Anfield for the Allianz Stadium last summer, started on the right of a three-man midfield for Max Allegri’s side as they hosted Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their round-of-16 clash, already two goals down from the first.
However, Can helped the Italian champions to overcome the deficit and win 3-0 courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick which booked their place in the quarter-finals, commanding his position in swashbuckling style.
Many Reds fans watched on in awe in their homes at their former player, one of them commenting upon how much they and Jurgen Klopp’s team have missed him this season.
And it may not be the last time in 2018/19 that they are forced to watch the Can heroics they’re now missing out on, with the possibility of meeting his Juve team in the Champions League this campaign a very real one.
Check out some of the best reactive Tweets from Liverpool supporters salivating over the “instrumental showing,” below…

Everton know they badly need to improve if they want to remain in contention for seventh position in the Premier League.
That’s a place that could potentially allow them again to compete in the Europa League next season – depending on the FA Cup success of the top six – but after a poor run of form, that now seems like a big ask.
Marco Silva hasn’t had the best of starts at Goodison Park, certainly not the one he would have wanted anyway.
He hasn’t been helped by the inconsistency of his players on the pitch either, something he could do with changing given the chance in the summer.
Forward players seem to be very necessary additions for Everton and a player who may do very well with a move to England is Borussia Dortmund’s, Jacob Bruun Larsen.
Larsen, (who is valued at £18 million on Transfermarkt) has found opportunities rare this season for the Bundesliga table-toppers.
Since the arrival of winger Jason Sancho has revamped the way in which Borussia Dortmund play, Larsen has made just 12 starts in all competitions, whilst compiling three goals and two assists.
The 20-year-old was extremely highly-rated coming through the youth system with Dortmund, where he was a persistent threat in-front of goal and regularly scoring.
Now, a move away would probably be considered best for his development and although young, he could have what it takes to be a hit in England.
He can play on either wing and through the middle as an attacking-midfielder, giving Everton further chances to embed him within their side.
Some may think that Everton already have enough wingers and quantity they may have but quality is another issue.
Jacob Bruun Larsen would be a fix and a potential star if given the opportunity at Goodison Park.
The problems are just never-ending for Celtic at the moment.
Brendan Rodgers’ departure seems to have set in motion one issue after another and, even though they look set to finish this season on top, the Hoops need some serious rebuilding in the summer.
Among the various places of reinforcements lies their defence. Particularly, it’s the central defence they’ll simply have to look to improve upon. With Dedryck Boyata presumably leaving on a free transfer after running down his contract and Filip Benkovic returning to parent club Leicester City, Celtic’s defensive core will be gone.
The Hoops are looking for replacements and have allegedly found one. According to reports from CNN Turkey, Celtic are looking to sign the Serbian defender Srdjan Babic. A revelation for Red Star Belgrade this season, the towering Serb’s attracted a lot of attention from clubs around Europe.
While he only made three appearances in the Champions League, Babic’s stellar work in the league has quite clearly made him a hot property. The 22-year-old’s not only just a natural in aerial challenges, but he’s also assertive and agile enough to tackle mobile forwards pretty well. Indeed, his ability to track back, mark forwards out the game and physically outclass opponents makes him a perfect fit for the Scottish Premiership.
Clearly, he’d be a statement signing. With Celtic so badly needing to bridge the gap between domestic dominance and European success, Peter Lawwell must afford whoever gets the job over the course of the summer the cash to sign a player of this calibre to truly improve.
The physicality of the league’s well known and an intimidating figure like Babic could make opponents keep fearing Celtic. A young defender on the rise to stardom, the Serbian could draft in perfectly to make sure Boyata or Benkovic’s reliable presences aren’t missed.
Celtic fans, do you feel Babic can be an able replacement to Boyata or Benkovic? Join the discussion by commenting below.
Imagine the scenes if Aston Villa somehow manage to barge their way into the play-off places in the current campaign after experiencing a roller-coaster ride of emotions at Villa Park.
Jack Grealish’s return has lifted the mood at Villa Park as just about every supporter now believes that their side can go all the way in the Championship this season, especially after witnessing his performance last time out.
And, as if Grealish’s return wasn’t enough, it appears as if Dean Smith is set to welcome another couple of first-team members back from injury, as according to Birmingham Live, Axel Tuanzebe and Henri Lansbury have returned to training and Smith expects them to be available for the Blackburn clash.
Aston Villa fans will inevitably be pleased with Tuanzebe’s return as he’s already made a big impact in the current campaign, but Lansbury has struggled to make many inroads in recent years at Villa Park.
However, Lansbury has the ability to boost Aston Villa’s play-off chances massively and could become a secret weapon from here on in until the end of the season. Indeed, the Englishman has shown just how dangerous he can be over the years in the Championship as he scored 33 goals and provided 20 assists during his time at Nottingham Forest, and he’s displayed moments of promise at Villa Park but has never really been given a fair chance.
His attacking runs from the middle of midfield could cause all sorts of problems for the opposition in the final third and he has the quality to find the back of the net from long range, as well as picking defence-splitting pass. It’s safe to say that a midfield that involves the 28-year-old, Hourihane and John McGinn would definitely get fans excited, especially with Jack Grealish buzzing around in front of the midfield three.
Aston Villa fans, do you believe Lansbury can play a part in your play-off push? Surely he’s a better option than Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak…
