Tierney takes his place among the fans

[ad_pod ]

Kieran Tierney continued his role as a fan as Celtic won 2-0 away to St Johnstone.

A frustrating hip injury has kept him out of action since December 13th but nothing will deter him from following the Hoops with his mates in the stand.

It was an early start on a freezing morning but with a title to be won, snow, ice and cold wasn’t going to deter anyone in the away support as they made their way to Perth for a 12.30 start.

Tierney didn’t see much action during the first half other than Oliver Burke go down in a heap as the first 45 minutes ended goal-less as a reminder of Celtic’s stuttering away form.

When Odsonne Edouard went past Tierney lying on a stretcher Celtic’s chances looked bleak but a new hero was about to emerge from the substitutes bench.

Timothy Weah is the new cult hero, setting up James Forrest for the breakthrough then putting the points beyond St Johnstone when he drilled home a low pass from Callum McGregor.

At the final whistle the players left standing took a bow in front of the fans – hopefully Tierney will soon be back in action helping to deliver another title for the supporters he loves to sit among whenever the chance arises.

Here’s a look at how Celtic fans reacted to Tierney’s presence on the terraces…

The Chalkboard: Pochettino should retain faith in Foyth for Chelsea clash

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Stamford Bridge to take on their London rivals Chelsea in a Premier League clash on Wednesday. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will arrive still hurting from their shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Burnley last time out.

That defeat damaged Spurs’ title chances, and a failure to beat Chelsea would probably kill off their ambitions for this season completely. Pochettino will be after a positive response from his team, especially from those who failed to shine at Turf Moor.

On the chalkboard

Against the Clarets, a number of Spurs’ defenders failed to produce their best. However, 21-year-old centre-back Juan Foyth particularly struggled to deal with the physicality and aerial prowess of Sean Dyche’s side.

Pl>ymaker FC’s Ben Senior will never win the Champions League for one reason only. Find out what in the video below…

The young Argentine had a game to forget at Turf Moor, and Pochettino may be tempted to take him out of the firing line for this crunch London Derby. That, though, would be a mistake.

Foyth has already shown he can compete against top teams this season – a recent display against Borussia Dortmund was particularly impressive. Against Chelsea, his attributes could also be key for the visitors.

A match he’s made for

Foyth is a ball-playing defender. The once-capped Argentina international has the ability to pick out passes and launch attacking moves from deep. Against a team of the Blues’ quality, having that weapon in his arsenal could be vital for Pochettino.

If Spurs aren’t able to play out from the back and retain possession then pressure will relentlessly mount on their defence. Foyth’s calmness and composure on the ball means that he can be trusted to use possession well to relieve the pressure on his team. Foyth is a preferable option to Davinson Sanchez for this duty.

What’s more, whilst Chelsea have some powerful players, the likes of Eden Hazard, Willian and Gonzalo Higuain don’t pose the same physical or aerial threat that Foyth struggled to cope with against Burnley. Pochettino must recognise that this match is much more suited to the Argentine than the recent clash at Turf Moor. He should, therefore, retain faith in Foyth.

Emery has Mislintat to thank for finding Trossard

Arsenal will have their sights set on securing nothing less than a top four spot in the current campaign, as fans can’t stand another season in the Europa League.

The Gunners have certainly looked impressive at times under the guidance of Unai Emery, but the defensive side of things has let the North London club down on a number of occasions.

Interestingly, it appears as if Emery is already looking towards the summer transfer window, as according to football.london, Arsenal have their sights set on a summer move for Leandro Trossard.

Sven Mislintat was reportedly targeting Leandro Trossard back in November, according to Metro. Indeed, according to Trossard’s agent (as per Sporza), Arsenal were monitoring the attacker last year, but his representatives ruled out a January move for the Belgian.

Here’s what Josy Comhair had to say:

‘I contacted representatives from Arsenal and Tottenham.

‘At Spurs, nobody wanted to confirm that Trossard is an option, but Arsenal did.

‘They told me Leandro has a very interesting profile for them and that they have been following him since August.

‘They also added it was a good choice to stay at Genk for another year. They ended the phone call with ‘They are keeping a close eye on him’.’

So, it appears as if Unai Emery has Mislintat to thank for bringing Trossard into the picture as the Spaniard now has his sights set on securing the attacker in the summer transfer window.

Trossard has been prolific in the current campaign having found the back of the net 17 times, with eight assists to his name. His pace, dribbling ability and creativity makes him a very dangerous asset.

The Gunners should go ahead and pay the reported £22 million as he has plenty of potential and has already shown that he can produce an incredible amount of contributions at his current club. Arsenal are lacking quality in wide areas at this moment in time, so it seems like a no brainer.

Arsenal fans – thoughts on a potential move for Leandro Trossard?

Leeds fans blast Harrison performance vs Boro

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Leeds fans have been running the rule over Saturday’s dramatic draw at Middlesbrough, and they’re not too happy with the performance of Jack Harrison.

When Harrison and Izzy Brown joined last summer, Leeds fans were delighted to secure two “big six” talents for the season.

The pair have not had the desired impact though, as Brown is yet to play a Championship game due to injuries and Harrison has managed just two goals and one assist in 22 league appearances.

Harrison was once again given the nod on Saturday as the Whites travelled to the Riverside Stadium to take on the league’s sternest defence, and the match went exactly how you’d expect it to, with the visitors dominating the ball but creating very little.

Lewis Wing then put Boro in front just after half time, and it wasn’t until the 110th minute that Kalvin Phillips popped up with the equaliser, after an issue for Jack Clarke caused a lengthy stoppage.

Harrison completed just 55 per cent of his passes in the match, and fans are absolutely crucifying the 22 year-old’s display.

Prutton believes Kalvin Phillips can be Leeds captain in the future

[ad_pod ]

Former Leeds United midfielder David Prutton recently wrote a piece in the Yorkshire Evening Post singing the praises of current Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has improved dramatically this season.

What he said

Philips has silenced plenty of doubters at Elland Road this season with his performances. The 23-year-old has improved dramatically under the guidance of Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa, whilst Phillips’ endeavour, work rate and commitment has seen him become a key figure in the Argentine coach’s plans.

So impressive has the academy product’s development this season been that Prutton stated “Phillips has become a player who Leeds need to build their team around.”

Also noting Phillips’ humility, character, and willingness to learn, Prutton further asked, “does anybody else think he’s starting to look like a club captain of the future?”

Considering so many Leeds fans were willing to give up on Phillips only a year ago, it’s remarkable that the tide of opinion on the midfielder has changed to such an extent in such a short time.

On the rise

Now, Phillips must maintain the application and dedication he is currently demonstrating at Elland Road. If he can do that, then the sky is the limit for the young Englishman.

With Leeds currently flying high in the Championship and in the thick of the title hunt, Phillips may well be playing Premier League football next season. He has shown this season that he has the capacity to take strides forward in his game and few would bet against him being able to rise to the challenge of the top flight now.

Crystal Palace fans discuss their woeful home form

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to discuss their team’s woeful form at Selhurst Park this season.

The Eagles have scored just six goals from open play at home this season, with one of them an own goal, and only bottom-placed Huddersfield have a worse record at home than the south London-based side.

Which player with “no potential” has just been named Crystal Palace’s worst ever January signing? Find out in the video below…

In stark contrast, Palace’s away form is excellent, but fans who regularly attend the fixtures at Selhurst Park will be continuously left feeling hard done by as a result of the toothless performances.

Palace have lost eight games at home already this season, and have just one win in their last seven fixtures on their own turf.

With eight games left to play and having already amassed 33 points, the general consensus is that Palace will stay up, but the fans are getting more and more frustrated at watching their team constantly suffering defeat at their own place.

Let’s see what the Eagles supporters are saying on Twitter…

Tom Eaves would be a superb addition at Fratton Park

Portsmouth are still doing everything they can to ensure they have the best chance at achieving promotion back into the Championship next season.

Although earning a move up the football league system now seems difficult to do via the automatic spots, the play-offs still offer a chance for Portsmouth to make it back.

It’s been an extremely tough start to 2019 for Pompey and they quickly want to get back to winning ways.

Goals have dried up and for a team that couldn’t stop scoring before the New Year, that will be a concern.

Whether they stay in League One or go up into the Championship, a striker who could offer a tremendous service is Gillingham’s Tom Eaves, a player out of contract this summer.

Eaves, (who is valued at £90k on Transfermarkt) has enjoyed, on a personal note, a brilliant campaign with the Gills this season, notching up goal after goal.

Despite his side being 17th in the table, Tom Eaves has somewhat kept them afloat with 17 goals himself, plus an extra four assists as well.

Portsmouth have clinical strikers of their own but since the turn of the year, that statement may no longer be true. Jamal Lowe has 11 for the season, Ronan Curtis ten, but if Tom Eaves could replicate that form with a move to Portsmouth, that’s an offer they can’t look past.

Especially with Omar Bogle and James Vaughan only at the club until the summer, Tom Eaves gives them the security of not having to worry as much when next season comes around.

With his contract up, Eaves would be free to take his goals elsewhere and whether Portsmouth find themselves in the Championship or League One, they can be confident in the 27-year-old firing on all cylinders.

West Ham should sign Chambers as Rice replacement

West Ham United have struggled with consistency for large parts of the current campaign, which has made it difficult for them to challenge for a European spot.

However, the Hammers still remain in a promising position at this moment in time, as they find themselves six points off seventh position and eight points above the relegation zone.

One thing that has been worrying supporters in recent times has been Declan Rice’s future, as Manchester City have recently been linked (as per The Sun) with a move for the midfielder.

Therefore, it would make sense for the Hammers to weigh up their options ahead of the summer transfer window, with Arsenal’s Calum Chambers possibly being of interest. Indeed, the North London club are reportedly (as per The Mirror) open to bids for the Englishman in the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the standout performers for Fulham in the current campaign in his newly-found position as a defensive midfielder. He’s very similar to Declan Rice in many ways as he loves to get stuck in and often comes out with the ball, as well as helping intercept and getting his side moving forward.

Arsenal signed Chambers for a reported £16 million back in July of 2014, so you’d expect them to want at least what they paid for him when he joined. And, he hasn’t really done enough to suggest that they should be asking for much more than the original price, despite impressing at Craven Cottage.

Therefore, with Rice potentially costing Manchester City around £70 million in the summer months, it doesn’t look as if the Hammers would have to spend big to bring Chambers in as his potential replacement.

Crystal Palace fans slam Wayne Hennessey after nervous FA Cup performance

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after watching Wayne Hennessey put in an uncomfortable performance against Doncaster in the FA Cup fifth round.

The Wales international, who was making a rare start having lost his place to summer arrival Vicente Guaita, looked nervous throughout.

Hennessey miscontrolled a pass from Scott Dann to give away a needless corner, and looked shaky with his passing and touch when having the ball played back to him.

The former Wolves goalkeeper also parried a few shots that looked easier to smother, and whilst he did manage to keep a clean sheet, he made his own job harder than it needed to be at times.

Perhaps it was the uneven surface at the Keepmoat Stadium that caused these issues, but after seeing him make a number of errors in the past, Crystal Palace fans on Twitter didn’t have much sympathy for a man they don’t like seeing in between the sticks…
