Leeds’ transfer policy is brilliant as it incorporates both short and long-term aspiratuons

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United have been linked with a vast number of signings already this summer.

But in terms of the players they are targeting, they are striking a great balance between aiming for short-term and long-term success.

Leeds are a team that need to perform well next season, but fortunately, they also aren’t neglecting the long-term future of the club.

Andrea Radrizzani has operated largely on a sell before you buy policy, and it has been speculated that that model may be followed again this summer.

But it’s more than just their financial future, Leeds aren’t only targeting players who will get them promoted next season, they are looking at potential stars who could carry the team forward down the line.

The Yorkshire club have been linked with players who have the potential to make a significant impact in their push for the top two this season. The likes of Harry Wilson and Helder Costa have proven themselves to be top players at Championship level with their goal contribution records, but the Whites have also been looking at young prospects such as Cody Drameh and Rafa Mujica.

As long as the Whites’ youth team is being headed up by Carlos Corberan these players have a great chance of progressing to become members of the first team. Last season we saw both Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton become critical components in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad as they made plenty of appearances in important games.

If the sell before you buy policy is to continue at Elland Road, then this may be the best way to go about it. Clarke is now being touted as a £20m player, and these youngsters that the Whites are looking at bringing in could also be sold for millions of pounds once they mature.

If Leeds can purchase and develop youngster at this rate it will allow for the bigger-name signings like Patrick Bamford and Kiko Casilla to come in, all while keeping their net spend as low as possible.

Liverpool fans react after hilarious clip of Luis Suarez goes viral

[ad_pod ]

Oh Luis Suarez, just never stop being you. Whether you love him or you hate him, the Uruguayan is pure box-office when it comes to what he does on the pitch. But sometimes it’s not an acrobatic volley or a thunderbolt from the edge of the area. Sometimes it’s trying to claim handball off a goalkeeper, from inside the penalty area.

Yes, you read that right. The Barcelona superstar was involved in Copa America action against Chile on Monday night and in a clip posted on Twitter, the 32-year-old gets to the by-line inside the box and sees his clipped cross come off the glove of Chile shot-stopper Gabriel Alias.

His reaction? He immediately calls for a handball offence before it dawns on him seconds later that he’s read the rulebook all wrong.

The hilarious clip understandably got a lot of Liverpool fans to flood to Twitter to post their responses. Some of them were ruthless about their former Anfield star, who will do absolutely anything to win – just ask poor Asamoah Gyan or Giorgio Chiellini.

Some jokingly sided with Suarez over his claims for a penalty and insisted that only “haters” would deny that it wasn’t a spot-kick.

Others certainly took the banter up a notch and simply suggested the Uruguayan was rather helpfully pointing out what part of the goalkeeper he would be “feasting” on next.

Sheffield United fans hoping Ravel Morrison comes good if he signs

[ad_pod ]

Sheffield United fans are hopeful that Ravel Morrison will come good at Bramall Lane after it was announced that the troublesome midfielder was training with the club.

The 24-year-old’s career has been a rollercoaster up until this point. He was once heralded as one of the most talented youngsters Alex Ferguson had ever seen, but a series of attitude problems led to his career taking a huge dip.

Morrison’s most recent club was Danish outfit Ostersunds, but no goals and no assists in six appearances led to him leaving the club after just six months.

He’s on the hunt for his newest team, and it looks like Sheffield United could be willing to give him a chance to return to the Premier League.

Chris Wilder has been brilliant at bringing the best out of players in the past. David McGoldrick is a fantastic example of this, just 12 months after being released from Ipswich he won the Blades’ Player of the Year award.

United fans are hopeful that Wilder can once again work his magic on Morrison and finally make him realise the potential that Ferguson once saw in him.

Wijnaldum replies to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s hilarious Instagram snap

[ad_pod ]

Even though they are not yet officially back from their holidays, some of the Liverpool players have seemingly had their reunions already.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain recently posted an

/BzbEoAfAHXz/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram snap with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn from Los Angeles as the trio enjoyed some lunch.

But it was not the photo that caught the eye of the public but the caption that followed it. Oxlade-Chamberlain described the dinner with football terms as Alexander-Arnold “assisted him” and Woodburn poached the “tap-in” for the goal.

Of course, this caption had them all in tears from laughing as Georginio Wijnaldum and Woodburn both replied with emojis in the comment section below.

As for the return back to the daily grind, the Reds are reportedly to return on July 6, which is only days away, as the pre-season exhibitions loom just around the corner.

Oxlade-Chamberlain had a pretty unlucky season with Liverpool, despite picking up a Champions League winner’s medal.

The 25-year-old played a total of just two games in the Premier League due to a serious ligament injury that kept him sidelined for the majority of the 2018/19 campaign.

Everton’s Joao Virginia talks show they are backing their youngsters to make the grade

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton are in talks with Under-23 goalkeeper Joao Virginia over a new contract, whilst he has also joined Reading on a season-long loan deal.

What’s the word, then?

Well, tying Virginia down to fresh terms won’t be the first move the Toffees have made in securing the future of their young stars this summer, not by any means.

The Merseysiders have already been successful in getting as many as eight precocious young talents to commit their future to the club since the end of last season.

Thogden challenged himself to DM 100 footballers on Instagram. Find out who replied in the video below…

Everton have managed to get Ellis Simms, Einar Iversen, Mackenzie Hunt, Korede Adedoyin, Kieran Phillips, Nicolas Hansen, Joe Anderson and Manasse Mampala to put pen to paper on fresh deals, highlighting their intentions to focus on youth and back their young talent.

Clearly back their youngsters to make the grade

After David Unsworth’s incredible success with the Under-23 side in the 2018/19 campaign, the Toffees are clearly backing their young players to make it.

They were crowned Premier League 2 champions last season, where a number of burgeoning youngsters such as Lewis Gibson and Virginia put their names in the limelight.

In the Under-18’s, Simms hit a quite ridiculous 37 goals in just 29 games, which has attracted interest from German champions Bayern Munich.

We already know what the Goodison Park academy is capable of. It has been home to some excellent talents in previous years such as Wayne Rooney, Jack Rodwell and Ross Barkley, all of whom have gone on to play for England.

However, a true star hasn’t really emerged into the first-team since Barkley – there has evidently been an emphasis on rewarding a number of young players for their efforts in the shape of new contracts though, something that the Toffees wouldn’t do if they weren’t backing the majority of them to make the grade.

Arsenal fans react to Unai Emery’s latest transfer comments

[ad_pod ]

The new Premier League season is due to kick-off on Friday 9th August and with less than a month to go, clubs are still in the market to recruit and off-load players in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

The transfer market can be a cause of great stress amongst fans, and few clubs have a following quite as passionate and as vocal as the Gunners’, who’ve come together to write an open letter to the Kroenkes in a bid to force change in North London.

Arsenal have gone stale in recent years, now enduring their third season in a row outside the top four and watching the club respond to these on-field problems by announcing sub-par off-field solutions. A reported transfer budget of £40m hasn’t gone down well with fans, but what’s more frustrating is perhaps the fact that not a dime has been spent so far in this window on players expected to have an immediate impact on the first-team.

Unai Emery addressed the transfer situation with the media though, calling for patience among fans and stating: “We are being very, very demanding and we are first speaking about the possibility to sign very big, very expensive players and the first player in our list is our first target.”

You’d think the words coming from the head-coach will have raised expectation and excitement for the Gunners’ faithful, but it seems patience is so warn down that nothing but a concrete signing will give fans hope going into the new season.

Man United fans comment as Nicolas Pepe nears switch to Arsenal

[ad_pod ]

According to BBC Sport journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal have agreed a £72m deal with Lille for the transfer of Nicolas Pepe.

The report claims that the Gunners will pay the fee ‘via a series of instalments’ due to the fact that the club have a limited transfer budget this summer.

Napoli are also said to have agreed a price with Lille, but the Ivory Coast international signalled that he was not interested in a move to the Italian club.

Pepe was in fine form for Lille during the 2018-19 campaign – scoring 23 times and contributing 12 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.

Manchester United were also linked with a swoop, although BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone has since claimed that the Red Devils were never in the race.

Ligue 1 Transfer Roundup: Aguilar eyed, Monaco after Perin and Silva

[ad_pod ]

Yesterday’s Ligue 1 transfer roundup contained AS Monaco’s interest in Henry Onyekuru, news on the future of Moussa Dembele and Victor Osimhen’s now completed move to Lille. Today’s edition entails Premier League eyes on Montpellier’s Ruben Aguilar and Les Monegasques’ pursuits of Mattia Perin and Andre Silva.

Aguilar targeted by three Premier League clubs

Report: According to France Football, a trio of English clubs are interested in signing Aguilar this summer. Southampton, Brighton and Crystal Palace are all named in the report as being after the 26-year-old.

Verdict: Aguilar stood out for his team last season, recording an average WhoScored rating of 7.13, which was only bettered by Andy Delort for La Paillade. The Algeria striker was also the only player to register a higher number of assists than the Frenchman, despite the latter playing at right-back, and he also made the most tackles per game. In other words, he was a vital component of the side and so the news that clubs are casting their eyes on him should not come as too much of a surprise. Crystal Palace could do with a new right-back following the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, whilst Southampton could be in a similar situation if Cedric Soares leaves. Brighton have just Martin Montoya and could, therefore, also make a concrete move. Also, Aguilar’s contract runs out next year, which could see him become available at a cheaper price.

How likely is the deal? 6.5/10

Monaco want Perin

Report: TuttoJuve is reporting that Monaco are interested in Mattia Perin. Aston Villa are also mentioned as being after the Juventus goalkeeper, with the French club hoping to sign Italy international if he does not move to the Premier League.

Verdict: Whilst Villa may have been “on pole” to sign the 26-year-old when the report was written on Wednesday evening, they have since confirmed the signing of Tom Heaton from Burnley. As such, the path appears clear for Monaco to make their move. However, it could be asked whether the Ligue 1 outfit need him either. They have already signed Benjamin Lecomte from Montpellier during this transfer window and, alongside him, they have three other shot-stoppers in their squad. Danijel Subasic and Diego Benaglio are well into their thirties, though, which may indicate Leonardo Jardim’s interest in Perin. At Juventus, it seems unlikely that he will get a good run in the starting XI anytime soon. Wojciech Szczesny is currently number one, whilst Gianluigi Buffon has also returned to Turin during this window. If Perin has any sense, he will look to move, but Monaco may not be the best destination.

How likely is the deal? 6/10

Jardim still wants Silva

Report: As per today’s print edition of Tuttosport (via Calcio Mercato), Leonardo Jardim is still interested in taking Andre Silva to the Stade Louis II this season despite a move recently breaking down.

Verdict: Silva has already appeared to be on the verge of joining Monaco from AC Milan once this summer, but the move failed to materialise after the Portugal international could not agree financial terms to his liking with the Ligue 1 outfit. It was also reported that he had failed a medical ahead of a switch to his new club. He has recently had issues with his patella, from which he is still recovering. This may indicate that it is not the best time to sign the former Porto man, therefore, but that doesn’t seem to have put Jardim off. When he is fit, the 23-year-old is not too shabby. He has a career record of 70 goals in 170 club games, with his best spell coming in Portugal, whilst he has done very well internationally, netting 15 in 33 matches. If he can hit the ground running following his eventual return from injury, he would turn out to be worthwhile signing, but it is always hard to start out at a new club having just come back from the sidelines.

How likely is the deal? 5.5/10

Liverpool fans discuss Ki-Jana Hoever after his performance against Lyon

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Ki-Jana Hoever after his excellent performance against Lyon.

The Reds welcomed Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino back to the side after their international commitments this summer, with their return prompting an improved performance from the 3-0 defeat to Napoli as Jurgen Klopp’s side won the game 3-1.

Another player to impress on the day was 17-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever, who was appearing at right-back just hours after signing a new long-term contract with the Champions League winners.

The teenager – who was signed from Ajax last season – made his first-team debut at the age of just 16 against Wolves in the FA Cup, becoming the Merseysiders’ youngest ever appearance maker in the competition and the third youngest debutante in the club’s history.

The 5 foot 11 youngster looked confident against the Ligue 1 side, showing great enthusiasm to get up and down the flank – it was his whipped cross that led to Liverpool’s second goal, which was inadvertently finished off by Lyon centre-back Joachim Andersen.

Let’s see what the Reds supporters on Twitter were saying about the Dutchman after his performance…

Tottenham fans discuss the club not giving up on Christian Eriksen’s contract renewal

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the news that the club aren’t planning to give up on the idea of Christian Eriksen signing a new contract.

The Denmark international has just one year remaining on his deal with the north Londoners, and reportedly wants to leave the club with the European transfer window still open until September 2nd.

Eriksen was believed to have held talks with Manchester United before the transfer deadline on the 8th August, although no such move materialised – Spurs will lose the 27-year-old for free next summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

The former Ajax man changed the game in just 26 minutes after coming on against Aston Villa, helping turn a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 victory whilst playing a key role in the equaliser with a devilish delivery.

Let’s see how the Tottenham fans on Twitter reacted to the news that the club aren’t giving up on the 5 foot 11 man’s contract situation…
