Celtic interested in signing Gelhardt ahead of Rangers from Leeds on loan

Celtic are in the market for new additions this window and are reportedly now keeping tabs on a striker who hasn't featured too regularly this season.

Celtic's main January priority…

Brendan Rodgers will have an idea of where he would like to strengthen in the January transfer window and is likely to target signings in more than one area of the field.

However, there is an argument to say that bringing in a striker is the most important transfer pursuit for the Hoops during the mid-season market period, in light of Oh Hyeon-gyu and Daizen Maeda being selected to compete in the Asian Cup with their respective nations. Kyogo Furuhashi is now the sole survivor left to hold the fort in attack for the Scottish Premiership holders.

Reinforcements will be necessary for Celtic to guarantee sufficient depth in the forward areas heading into the return of football in Scotland upon the conclusion of the winter break.

Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden is a name that continues to be on the Hoops' radar, though Football Scotland understand that they are yet to test the Superliga outfit's resolve with an improved bid this month after seeing a £4 million offer rejected for his services in the summer.

Bologna's Sydney van Hooijdonk, Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski and Heart of Midlothian captain Lawrence Shankland have also been mentioned as potential new arrivals in Glasgow; nevertheless, it remains to be seen if any will be brought to Parkhead to help supplement their existing offensive options. Now, a new name looks to have been entered into the discussion as the Hoops look to get a deal over the line for a new forward, according to a report.

Celtic interested in Joe Gelhardt

According to MailOnline reporter Simon Jones, Celtic are interested in Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt, who is also attracting interest from their arch-rivals Rangers.

The report doesn't specify whether any deal for the 21-year-old would be available on a permanent deal or loan basis; however, journalist Alan Nixon has shed some further light on the Liverpool-born ace's situation, stating the following on social media platform X: "He’s been nowhere near for weeks and can go on loan. On big money. That will have to be a sponsored loan for someone."

Leeds forward Joe Gelhardt.

Labelled someone with "big potential" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, Gelhardt has made eight appearances across all competitions this season, finding the net once against Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Cup (Gelhardt statistics – Transfermarkt).

On the face of it, he doesn't seem like a signing that may excite Celtic supporters; nevertheless, how this situation may play out remains to be seen as the Hoops look to source a marksman in the next few weeks.

Man United could now hijack West Ham move to sign forward Serhou Guirassy

Manchester United are in need of reinforcements this month as Erik ten Hag looks to improve their fortunes and some encouraging news has emerged regarding their pursuit of a proven goalscorer, according to a report.

Man United's hunt for a striker…

Rasmus Hojlund has been a point of contention for Manchester United fans over the course of this campaign, dividing fans with his performances and noticeable lack of service in the last few months. Nevertheless, the Denmark international scored his second goal in quick succession against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, taking his tally for the season to seven from 25 appearances.

Despite the former Atalanta youngster's recent spurt of positivity, there is an undoubted need for another forward at Old Trafford as rumours of an Anthony Martial exit continue to brew.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival at Old Trafford has bred fresh optimism among a beleaguered fanbase and the 71-year-old is believed to have designs on bringing a new attacker to Old Trafford that is on a similar level to Bayern Munich and England talisman Harry Kane, as per The Evening Standard.

Another central midfielder, winger and centre-back will also be on the agenda in the North West, though any future striker purchase would be expected to come in and play alongside Hojlund.

In this window, Brian Brobbey, Donyell Malen, Eric Choupo-Moting and Serhou Guirassy have all been mentioned as potential solutions to the lack of options available to Ten Hag in the final third after the Red Devils missed out on Timo Werner to Tottenham Hotspur.

Now, one of these four players is assumed to be at the centre of a transfer battle between multiple clubs, which Manchester United could have an edge in, as per reports.

Man United could hijack Serhou Guirassy interest…

According to Football Insider, Manchester United and AC Milan are among the sides who could hijack West Ham United's interest in Stuttgart poacher Guirassy as the Red Devils' search for a striker continues. Formerly of Rennes, the 27-year-old has a release clause of £15 million and has emerged as a target for some of Europe's elite due to his goalscoring exploits in the Bundesliga.

The report states that David Moyes will face "huge competition" to sign the Guinea international, who is currently away at the African Cup of Nations, with the Hammers reportedly in ongoing talks over a move. Meanwhile, Manchester United, alongside AC Milan and Newcastle United, are among the clubs keeping a close eye on his situation.

Stuttgart strikerSerhou Guirassy.

Dubbed "outrageous" by Seb Stafford-Bloor, Guirassy has exploded into life this campaign, registering 19 goals in 16 outings across all competitions (Guirassy statistics – Transfermarkt).

Manchester United have only directly outscored Burnley, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace in the Premier League and bringing in someone of Guirassy's ilk could help eradicate that unwanted trend.

£100,000-per-week star may still join Arsenal after intensive January talks

There remains a chance Arsenal could sign a £100,000-per-week star after they opened "intensive" talks earlier this month, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Quiet January at Arsenal despite Arteta message

Just before the January transfer window opened its doors, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta declared his intention to be active in a bid to upgrade his squad.

The three strikers Arsenal could sign to replace Gabriel Jesus

Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for a new number nine this month.

ByJack Salveson Holmes Jan 24, 2024

Arsenal are chasing their first league title in 20 years and are arguably short in key areas, namely at full-back, midfield and further forward.

“If there is something that we can [do to] improve the squad and that needs appear, and we cannot fulfil it with players here, we are always going to be open to do that because we want to be stronger,” said Arteta in December.

“We have certain targets, ideas if things happen. As well, we don’t know how the squad is going to look in two weeks’ time and you have to be always prepared for that.

“But it is a very, very tricky market that shifts very quickly and it is quite unpredictable as well – and you have to be prepared. We will be prepared and we will try to make the right calls.”

Before their 5-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace last week, where they appeared re-energized, Arsenal were often struggling to convert chances and there are still some rumours that sporting director Edu could look to sign a striker.

However, it's been a quiet month at the Emirates Stadium so far. That'll have to change soon if Arteta is indeed keen to bolster his ranks, with Tavolieri revealing that Arsenal had opened talks over a move for Everton star Amadou Onana earlier this month.

Onana is apparently keen on a move to Arsenal, as per Tavolieri, who also said to "wait and see" if they manage to land the £100,000-per-week ace before February 1.

This week, the same reporter shared an update on Arsenal's pursuit of the player.

Chance Arsenal still sign Onana

According to Tavolieri, Arsenal still have a chance of signing Onana in January. However, with FFP proving a major roadblock, they may need to make a sale first.

Spurs could land a lethal Maddison partner with late £21m transfer

Tottenham Hotspur were dumped out of the FA Cup by Manchester City on Friday night as Nathan Ake's controversial late goal secured the win for the visitors.

Ruben Dias blocks on Guglielmo Vicario went unpunished and that allowed the Dutch central defender to prod the ball into the back of the net from close range.

There were positives to come out of the match for Ange Postecoglou, though, and one of them was the return of James Maddison, who came off the bench during the second half, from injury.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou.

The England international made his first competitive appearance for Spurs since the 6th of November, against Chelsea in the Premier League.

He has been a terrific addition since his summer switch from Leicester City as an outstanding creative force in the middle of the park for Tottenham.

Daniel Levy and Postecoglou could provide the English wizard with another quality operator to create chances for if they are able to land another striker to the squad before the deadline passes on Thursday this week.

Tottenham's search for a striker

One exciting marksman who has been linked with a possible move to North London is Besiktas and Turkey U19 number nine Semih Kilicsoy

Turkish outlet Fanatik reported earlier this month that Spurs are one of a number of clubs keeping tabs on the talented young centre-forward.

The outlet stated that Aston Villa, Borussia Dortmund, and Napoli are also monitoring the 18-year-old attacker as they eye up a possible swoop for his services.

Wolves transfer target Semih Kilicsoy in action for Besiktas.

They claimed that scouts from several European sides came to watch the promising talent in action in January, with the teenage whiz breaking into the first-team squad with the Turkish giants this season.

According to Milliyet, via TurkishNewsWorld, Besiktas will demand a fee of at least €25m (£21m) from any of the interested parties to part ways with Kilicsoy this month.

This would be a club-record departure for the Super Lig side as it would be €2.5m more than the €22.5m they received from Premier League side Everton back in the summer of 2018.

The report suggests that their staggering valuation of the teenage starlet speaks to how highly they rate him and his potential to improve over the years to come.

It, however, remains to be seen whether Spurs are prepared to go in with an offer for his services during the current window or if they will wait until the summer to make a move. There is also no mention in either of the reports if any sides are willing to meet Besiktas' £21m valuation of the young finisher.

If Levy can secure a deal for Kilicsoy, though, then Tottenham could bring in a lethal partner for Maddison in the final third, based on his impressive form for Besiktas at youth and senior level.

Maddison's immense creativity for Spurs

The 27-year-old magician is a striker's dream because he has the quality and vision to consistently create high-quality chances for his teammates at the top end of the pitch.

A centre-forward playing with Maddison behind them does not have to worry about a lack of service as the attacking midfielder is almost guaranteed to produce an excellent opportunity for them week-in-week-out.

Over the last 365 days, the former Foxes star ranks within the top 2% of his positional peers across the Men's Big Five Leagues and European competitions for shot-creating actions (6.43) per 90, and the top 4% for Expected Assisted Goals (0.37) per 90.

This shows that he has been one of the best creative threats in Europe over the past year, for Spurs and Leicester, with his defence-splitting passes to create shooting opportunities for his teammates.

His form in the Premier League for Tottenham this season has been particularly impressive as he ranks within the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers within the division for shot-creating actions (8.17) and progressive passes (9.91) per 90 respectively.

This shows that he has been an outstanding creator for Postecoglou in the English top-flight, which is why he is a dream for strikers to play with.

As you can see from the table above, Maddison offers goals and assists from a number ten position and Kilicsoy, if Spurs win the race for his signature, could love to play alongside him.

Kilicsoy's impressive goal record

The 18-year-old marksman is in the early stages of his career and it would be a gamble for Tottenham to bring him to England as he is yet to prove himself out of his home country.

However, his impressive goal record for Besiktas and Turkey at youth and senior level suggests that he has the potential to be a lethal partner for Maddison, who has the ability to create plenty of chances for the young number nine.

The teenage dynamo, who analyst Ben Mattinson hailed as a "powerful" player, caught the eye for his club's U19 side with a phenomenal return of 42 goals and six assists in 64 appearances from the 2020/21 campaign through to the end of last season.

He has also excelled for Turkey's youth teams with 21 strikes in 27 outings throughout the U14, U15, U17, and U19 age groups for his country.

That staggering form for the academy team earned him a first-team chance with Besiktas and he has grasped that opportunity with both hands this season.

As you can see from the table above, Kilicsoy, who was described as a "hidden gem" by the aforementioned Mattinson, is a lethal finisher who has more than made the most of the xG that has been created for him.

This suggests that he has the quality to outperform his xG, which is a sign of a clinical goalscorer, and that is why he could be a fantastic partner for Maddison in the final third.

The current Spurs whiz excels at creating high-quality chances – providing his teammates with big xG opportunities – and Kilicsoy could turn those key passes into assists for the England international with his superb finishing, if he can translate his form over to England.

Therefore, they could form a lethal partnership at the top end of the pitch for Spurs and Levy should push to secure a deal for his services either this month or in the summer.

Spurs already have their answer to Dominic Solanke in teenage "unit"

The January transfer window came and went and certainly won't live long in the memories of most Premier League supporters, with a gross collective expenditure of £100m a stunning £715m lower than 2023's gargantuan outlay.

Tottenham Hotspur, however, will be happier than most after chairman Daniel Levy addressed key areas of concern with the £27m defensive deal for Radu Dragusin and the astute loan addition of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, buy option of £15m inserted.

Ange Postecoglou has won over the Spurs support with his forthright disposition and quick-witted humour, marrying such idiosyncratic traits with an attractive and effective ideology that has pushed last year's malaise into the background – the fight for top four is very much on.

Timo Werner in action for Tottenham.

Saturday's 2-2 draw against Everton on Merseyside allowed Aston Villa to reclaim fourth spot after a rampant victory over Sheffield United but Spurs remain in a good position, two points behind, nursing just one defeat from eight top-flight games and seeing a host of influential stars return to fitness over recent weeks.

The lack of depth has been the core of the problems this term, and while Richarlison is in red-hot form at centre-forward right now – scoring nine in his last ten games – Harry Kane was not directly replaced last summer and the end of the campaign will surely focus on signing a new striker.

There were certainly murmurings last month…

The striker Tottenham wanted to sign

Several names were touted throughout January but Tottenham pressed to alleviate issues elsewhere and clearly trust the current attacking crop to see the year through.

Richarlison and Son are both in double-digits in the Premier League this season and Tottenham are the first team to see two players reach this total.

Nonetheless, a new focal frontman is desired and it looks like Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke is one of the top targets, with reports towards the end of January detailing a potential last-gasp swoop from Spurs.

The Cherries were unwilling to do business last month but are bracing for a wave of approaches in the summer and have slapped a £50m price tag on his signature.

Why Solanke was of interest to Spurs

Solanke joined Bournemouth from Liverpool in an initial £19m deal back in 2019 but only scored three goals from 42 Premier League appearances for the south coast club before a bottom-three finish sucked the Vitality Stadium into the second tier.

A prolific couple of years in the Championship honed the 26-year-old's striking skill set and set him in good stead to succeed upon returning to the big time at the start of last season, scoring six goals and supplying seven assists as Bournemouth preserved their top-flight status.

A brilliant profusion of quality this season has now established Solanke as one of the Premier League's most fearsome forwards, with The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell noting that the "top, multi-faceted forward" has finally meshed the cogs into one attacking engine.

As per FBref, the 6 foot 1 talisman also ranks among the top 24% of positional peers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for progressive carries, the top 22% for successful take-ons and the top 9% for clearances per 90.

Potent and productive this year, Solanke would have been an excellent addition to front the Tottenham attack and still could arrive in the summer, but interest has been shelved for now and Postecoglou must utilise his existing options.

Kieffer Moore and Dominic Solanke celebrate for Bournemouth.

Richarlison is riding the crest of the wave at the moment and Son's prowess as a world-class attacking force is known to the whole of Europe, but rising star Alejo Veliz out of contention since the start of January and not expected back any time soon, it might be time to bring one of the exciting U21s into the senior set-up.

Jamie Donley has started to wedge his way into Postecoglou's plans and has earned three appearances so far, but he's not the out-and-out striker to sharpen the spearhead. That's Will Lankshear, and he deserves a shot.

Will Lankshear profiled

Tottenham signed Lankshear from Sheffield United for a reported fee of £2m in 2022 and the 18-year-old has so far scored 15 goals and supplied four assists across 25 matches for the side's respective youth levels.

Said to be "an absolute unit for his age, massive, powerful" by Spurs expert John Wenham, the teenager clearly boasts the athleticism and physicality to thrive and could now make his senior debut before the summer to hand Postecoglou a secret weapon, adding a dimension to his impressive offensive options.

Last season, he plundered four goals and two assists from just five outings in the U18 Premier League and made five appearances in the Premier League 2, and while he didn't find the mark in that one, each introduction came from the bench in the second half.

Alas, that breakthrough campaign was cut short by a knee injury suffered in February but if there were any worries surrounding a detrimental blow to his development, they have been wiped away through some stellar showings in 2023/24.

Back with a vengeance for the current campaign, Lankshear has plundered ten goals and two assists from 12 fixtures, including eight strikes from nine in the Premier League 2.

Boyish avidity meets age-belying confidence and cutting-edge. Lankshear is the real deal and proved his ability to overcome adversity and take a level-up in his progress in 2023.

Now he must be promoted to the first-team fold, ready to wreak havoc on established, professional defenders left bemused by the precocity of this teenage talent.

Rangers star who won 100% ground duels was the real hero over Tavernier

Glasgow Rangers moved to the top of the Scottish Premiership table by two points on Sunday as they secured a 3-0 win away from Ibrox at St. Johnstone.

A first-half strike from Mohammed Diomande gave his side the lead going into the break and captain James Tavernier made sure of the three points with two well-taken penalties in the last 15 minutes.

Philippe Clement's side have now won nine matches in succession in all competitions and continue on their charge to secure the league title ahead of Celtic.

Glasgow Rangers managerPhilippe Clement.

Tavernier may grab the headlines with his two late goals to put the game to bed against St. Johnstone but the manager's real hero of the match was central midfielder Diomande.

James Tavernier's penalty prowess

The Gers skipper kept his cool from the penalty spot to dispatch both of his chances to find the back of the net from 12 yards to ensure that the hosts did not have room to get back into the clash late on.

His second goal was particularly impressive as the superb right-back lifted his spot-kick into the top left corner past the despairing dive of Dimitar Mitov, who had guessed the right way but got nowhere near the ball.

However, Tavernier's performance was not a perfect one as there was room to improve in his work both in and out of possession during the game.

The former Newcastle United prospect lost two of his four aerial duels and five of his 11 battles on the ground across the 90 minutes, which shows that he did allow St. Johnstone players to get the better of him at times.

The 32-year-old defender also had 90 touches of the ball at right-back but was only able to create one chance for his teammates at the top end of the pitch.

Mohammed Diomande's impressive display

Diomande, meanwhile, produced an impressive performance with his play in and out of possession in the middle of the park, which is why he was the real hero of the game over his captain.

The recent signing scored his first goal for the club in spectacular fashion to open the scoring and set the Light Blues on their way to the three points.

He picked the ball up on the edge of the box and rifled a fantastic, swerving effort, into the corner of the net on his weaker right foot from distance.

Mohammed Diomande

His goal was not the only impressive part of his performance, though, as the central midfielder also put plenty of work off the ball to help his team out.

Diomande won 100% (6/6) of his ground duels to make four tackles and two clearances to help his side out of possession, which shows that he dominated the opposition on the deck, whereas Tavernier struggled at times in that respect.

The Ivorian dynamo also created two chances for his teammates with 57 touches of the ball, which means that the young ace provided a greater creative threat for Rangers than the skipper despite having 33 fewer touches.

Therefore, Diomande was the real hero of the game as his goal broke the deadlock and set the Gers on their way to the win, and he did more in and out of possession than Tavernier to help the side.

Ex-Spurs scout urges Levy to sign defender with connections to Tottenham

An ex-Tottenham employee from the scouting department has urged the club and chairman Daniel Levy to sign one particular player this summer.

Spurs targeting new defenders

Ange Postecoglou is thought to be keen on bringing in more defenders later this year, regardless of Radu Dragusin's signing from Genoa for around £25 million last month.

"World-class" Tottenham star may now consider leaving after developments

The Romania international will find playing time difficult given his role of being a back up to both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, but either one of the duo's absence could spell big trouble for Spurs, much like it did earlier in the campaign.

Romero's often walking a tightrope when it comes to suspension and van de Ven's previous hamstring injury resulted in the Lilywhites' form taking a major dip. Dragusin's signing was an absolute necessity for Postecoglou, with the club now keen on bringing in a new full-back as well.

There is a considerable lack of depth behind both Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie, who've both starred as Postecoglou's inverted full-back first choices. Emerson Royal lies behind Porro, while left-back Ryan Sessegnon is set for a lengthy absence yet again after picking up a hamstring injury.

Reports suggest that Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters could emerge as a target for Spurs, while there are also links with in-form Udinese right-back Festy Ebosele. The latter has made 25 Serie A appearances this season and is a fully-fledged Republic of Ireland international at just 21 years old.

Tottenham told to sign Festy Ebosele by former club scout

Speaking to Tottenham News, former Spurs scout Bryan King has now urged Levy to sign Ebosele after these links to the defender – speaking of his connections to N17 already through Udogie, who himself transferred from Udinese.

“It could be useful to have some cover on the right because they are pretty strong down the left," said King.

"He sounds like he is the right player to bring in. He is a good age, he has got enough Italian connections at the club with Destiny Udogie and Guglielmo Vicario, so I imagine it would be easy for him to settle in.

“By the sound of his pedigree, he sounds like someone who could stand in for Pedro Porro and give Tottenham more depth in their squad. I think this signing would be a good idea.”

Ebosele's reputation in Italy is growing at a rapid pace, with veteran Derby County defender Craig Forsyth calling him a "nightmare" to play against.

"He's been getting better and better and that's the thing. It's good to see him improving with that final ball," said Forsyth.

"Still he can get better, there was a lot of opportunities tonight. He's a threat and he's horrible to play against. He's so strong and he's so quick and he can go both ways. He's a nightmare for a defender."

Club below Newcastle in the table plotting move for Howe’s "excellent" star

The January transfer window laid bare just how close Newcastle United came to breaking Financial Fair Play rules, with their £155m in losses only keeping them out of trouble due to investments in into their charity foundation, academy and women's team. That said, amid those losses, the rumour mill has been going since January regarding potential departures.

Newcastle transfer news

Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron have all been linked with moves away from St James' Park in recent months, albeit without ever completing departures. What's more, Newcastle have only recently seen their fears over Joelinton's contract situation eased by reports that the Brazilian is closing in on a new deal at the club.

It's news that Eddie Howe will be pleased with, having spoken about the midfielder's situation a few months ago, saying via TNT Sports: "He has 18 months left on his contract so it's a possibility he'll be sold in the summer.

"I'm not a fortune teller but it's a possibility. I hope that's not the case. I want him to stay. I love him as a person and player. But before a player signs a contract he has to be happy with everything and we are not there yet."

Newcastle now preparing move to sign "perfectionist" in big-money deal

This would be a huge coup for the Magpies.

ByTom Cunningham Mar 7, 2024

That said, it's not just Joelinton that Howe should be worrying about. According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea are now eyeing a move to sign Sven Botman this summer in a shock move to boost their defensive options. The Blues are, of course, currently sitting 11th in the Premier League and four points below eighth-place Newcastle, perhaps creating questions over whether the move would even be an upgrade for Botman in the coming months.

Even if the Magpies could do with raising funds to balance the books, selling one of Howe's starting players to a Premier League rival should be out of the question for PIF this summer.

"Excellent" Botman is the key to Newcastle development

If Newcastle want to not only get back into the Premier League's top four but also then stay there for years to come, then keeping hold of their spine will be the key. And that's what the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman make up as arguably Howe's most important players.

Botman, in particular, at the heart of Newcastle's defence and still just 24-years-old is a player that the Magpies must do everything to keep hold of. The Magpies' Premier League record without the Dutchman this season speaks for itself.

Howe is well aware of the defender's importance too, saying via Chronicle Live last season: “Sven Botman was excellent tonight – I thought that was his best game for us aerially. Who Ate All Depays?

Rangers should soon unleash 20y/o who’d be ideal for McCausland

Glasgow Rangers enter the international break with the chance for a much-needed rest.

The Ibrox side have been ravaged by injuries of late and with the prospect of nearly two weeks without a fixture, it gives Philippe Clement the opportunity to nurse some players back to full health.

Being knocked out of the Europa League may be a blessing in disguise as the Gers chase Premiership and Scottish Cup glory in the coming weeks.

Led by James Tavernier, the Gers are hitting form at precisely the right time, with the captain front and centre of the recent rejuvenation under Clement.

James Tavernier’s statistics for Rangers this season

Last season, under Michael Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Tavernier scored 18 goals and registered ten assists, although the club failed to secure any silverware.

Three goals in the Champions League qualifiers was not enough to see Rangers secure a place in the group stage after a defeat to PSV Eindhoven. Tavernier was uncharacteristically barren in front of goal domestically under Beale during the embryonic stages of the season, scoring just once.

Following his dismissal and Clement’s appointment, the captain has been on a different level to anyone else in the squad. Not only has he found the back of the net on 15 occasions under the Belgian in just 32 games, but the defender has also chipped in with eight assists.

These goals have seen the 32-year-old take his tally to an impressive 122 since signing for the club in 2015. Add in the fact he has also grabbed 127 assists, and it is fair to say the Gers may never see his like again.

Tarvernier's contract expires in 2026, when he will be closing in on turning 35, and it is clear he does not have much longer at the very top, suggesting Clement may need to start searching for a successor sooner rather than later.

Could he potentially have someone right under his nose? As Adam Devine is enjoying a promising loan spell at Motherwell.

How Adam Devine is doing on loan at Motherwell

Having made just one appearance for the Light Blues during the opening six months of the season, Clement allowed the youngster to join fellow Premiership side Motherwell on a loan deal until the end of the campaign in order for him to gain some game time.

“Adam is a promising, young talent,” said Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell upon his arrival.

“I hope he brings energy and enthusiasm. This is a chance for him to prove himself at this level and I look forward to working with him.”

So far, Devine has played six league ties for the Steelmen, scoring once, averaging 0.5 key passes per game, succeeding with 100% of his dribbles and winning 63% of his ground duels for the club, indicating how well he has settled in.

This temporary spell could be just what he needs to build up some confidence ahead of 2024/25 as he will be aiming to secure more opportunities at the Light Blues and fully realise his true potential.

Adam Devine’s record at Rangers

The right-back was hailed as “highly rated” by then Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall after he joined for a brief loan spell in 2021, but a year later, he made his debut for the Ibrox side.

Van Bronckhorst gave him his first start in the final league game of the 2021/22 season as he was resting players ahead of the Europa League final days later and Devine was solid.

Rangers defender Adam Devine.

He succeeded with 100% of his dribble attempts, made six clearances, made two tackles and took 79 touches during the game as he looked to get involved at every possible opportunity.

An injury crisis at left-back during the festive period the following season saw Devine start three consecutive matches, performing above board in place of Borna Barisic.

During his six league appearances that term, the 20-year-old provided a clear attacking threat, creating two big chances, averaging one key pass per game and once again succeeding with 100% of his dribble attempts as he looked to support the team when they were attacking.

His flexibility in being able to play either on the left or right side of the defence is a big bonus for Clement, and in the coming years, he could be perfect for Ross McCausland on the right wing.

Ross McCausland's season in numbers

The Northern Irishman has enjoyed a fabulous breakthrough campaign at Ibrox during 2023/24, taking his opportunity following injuries to key players.

From making his first appearance of the season against Aris Limassol in October to the time of writing, the 20-year-old has made 30 appearances for the Light Blues, scoring twice and registering three assists.

While he is an excellent talent, placing too much pressure on his young shoulders could have a detrimental effect, as just one bad performance for Rangers can see certain sections of the fanbase jump to criticise him.

Devine at right-back and McCausland on the right wing is a duo which could be formed over the coming years if both live up to their vast talents.

There is no doubt Clement is all for developing youth talent, with McCausland and Cole McKinnon obvious recent examples, and if the player is good enough, then he should be given at least a chance to showcase his worth in the first team.

Establishing a player trading model will be key for success in the transfer market over the next few years, as the club simply cannot afford to keep splashing out fees on players who are not at the required standard.

This could see several players from the academy make a step up to the first team and fill in gaps in the squad that otherwise may have gone to journeymen or seasoned professionals.

Devine’s loan spell at Motherwell is going well so far and without putting too much pressure on the Scot, if he continues to shine, his confidence levels will be on a high heading into pre-season prior to 2024//25.
