Ball: Rangers target Veerman’s Heerenveen price tag is too high

Former Rangers defender Michael Ball believes that Heerenveen must drop the price tag of Joey Veerman.

Veerman has been linked with a move to Ibrox this summer, with the Scottish Sun reporting that the Dutchman has hit out at the club’s £8million valuation of him.

This is something which Ball agrees with, telling Transfer Tavern: “Unfortunately the big teams aren’t willing to pay that. They’ve got to drop it, Glasgow Rangers won’t be paying nine, ten million pounds, I don’t think they’ve got that money to pay for a young kid right now.”

22-year-old Veerman was in good form for Heerenveen last season, scoring nine goals and setting up another 11 in all competitions for the Eredivisie outfit.

The Dutchman also offers a lot of versatility as he can operate from defensive midfield, central midfield, left midfield and also further forward in an attacking midfield role, as per Transfermarkt.

Manager Steven Gerrard has already begun strengthening his team this summer, with Fashion Sakala, Nnamdi Ofoborh and John Ludstram all arriving at Ibrox, and after guiding Rangers to their first league title in a decade last season, Gerrard will be looking to get his recruitment spot on and ensure that Rangers are competing once again next season.

Wolves transfer update on Mir

Some Wolves fans have been left lauding a transfer update from Fabrizio Romano on Rafa Mir.

As per Romano, Atletico Madrid are set to complete an agreement with the Midlands club to sign the striker, with talks now at their final stages.

Mir has already agreed personal terms with the current La Liga holders, having only played in a mere four senior games for the Molineux faithful, and is currently only a squad player behind Raul Jimenez.

Given that Atletico will be competing in the UEFA Champions League once more, and Mir is only 24 years of age, Bruno Lage’s team could demand a reasonable transfer fee for him, which could then be used to reinvest back into the squad ahead of the start of the new 2021/22 Premier League season.

Tottenham submitting new Tomiyasu offer

According to a Tottenham Hotspur source, speaking to Football Insider, the Lilywhites are submitting a ‘fresh offer’ to sign Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Lowdown: Spurs in month-long talks…

Tottenham have been in talks over a deal for Tomiyasu since the start of last month, with Sky Sports revealing that they had a bid of £12.9m (€15m), plus an extra £2.6m (€3m) in add-ons, rejected.

Two weeks later, the Athletic came out with a positive development that Spurs were ‘closing in’ on Tomiyasu’s signing and finalising terms on a fee believed to be around £15 million, plus add-ons.

Since then, updates have been scarce, but reliable reporter Alasdair Gold believes his signing ‘will happen’ going by what he’s heard from the Japan international’s side (football.london Q&A).

The Latest: Spurs submitting fresh Tomiyasu offer…

As per Football Insider, a Tottenham source has revealed that the Lilywhites are now submitting a fresh bid to sign the 22-year-old this summer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-gossip/” title=”Tottenham latest gossip!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

They say that Spurs ‘called a halt’ on their pursuit of Tomiyasu while he was at the Olympic games with Japan but are in fact still interested with a new offer at the ready.

Indeed, Fabio Paratici very much still wants the versatile defender at Spurs and is tabling a £17 million bid for his services.

Tottenham are hopeful this amount will be enough to finally get Tomiyasu over the line.

The Verdict: Get it done…

The 6 foot 2 colossus can play both at centre-back and right-back, so for just £17m, Spurs could solve two problems in one swoop.

At 22 years of age, Tomiyasu also has plenty of time ahead of him, meaning Tottenham could stand to even earn profit in terms of sell-on-value if he keeps performing at a high level.

Lauded as a ‘giant’ player by Italian media for his Bologna performances last term, he made the joint-most clearances per 90 out of their whole squad (3.3) and third-most successful aerial duels on average (WhoScored).

There’s certainly little debating he would be a shrewd addition for Nuno Espirito Santo.

Man Utd linked to Luka Jovic

Manchester United have been linked with a surprise move for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic.

What’s the story?

According to Tribal Football, the Red Devils are weighing up a move for the 23-year-old as manager Ole Gunnar Solkjaer looks to bolster his attacking options.

The report states that: “Jovic’s price and availability has him front of mind inside Carrington HQ,” meaning a transfer to Old Trafford could potentially be on the cards over the coming weeks.

Spanish outlet AS reported that the Serbia international was “seduced” by the prospect of playing for United last September, and the same publication claimed Madrid would demand £35 million for his services earlier in the summer.

John Murtough eyes up move

A new defensive midfielder is believed to be the priority for United in the current window following the acquisition of Jadon Sancho and the imminent arrival of Raphael Varane.

However, despite the fact that Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial are comfortable playing through the middle, an ageing Edinson Cavani is arguably the only natural recognised senior striker on the club’s books, meaning Solskjaer may be tempted to make a move for Jovic.

The stocky forward burst onto the European scene during a hugely successful loan spell with German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018/19, bagging 27 goals in 48 appearances, adding a further seven assists.

Jovic’s outstanding displays earned many admirers, and former colleague Kevin-Prince Boateng is amongst his supporters.

“He has everything to become (a world-class striker). You see that in training. He has football in his genes, he’s a street footballer, and he has a nose for goal,” said Boateng (as relayed by Bundesliga.com)

“He scores with his head, right or left foot. He is technically good and can shoot well with both feet. He just has everything a striker needs.”

And his ex-Eintracht striker partner Sebastien Haller was also quick to praise the prolific hitman, saying: “He brings everything: he’s fast, robust, technically savvy and a super finisher.”

Despite his magnificent exploits with the Bundesliga side, Jovic has struggled to live up to expectations following a £52m move to Madrid in the summer of 2019.

In 32 appearances for Los Blancos, the Red Star Belgrade academy graduate has scored just two goals, laying on only two assists for his teammates. His poor form saw him return to Frankfurt on loan halfway through last season, where he showed glimpses of his clinical touch.

Whether United’s football director John Murtough follows up his reported interest with a formal offer remains to be seen, but the addition of a young, proven goalscorer to Solskjaer’s ranks would certainly be a welcomed move.

And, in other news…Murtough must avoid MUFC transfer nightmare over £40.5m-rated gem, Ole would be fuming

Journalist makes claim involving Martinez and Spurs

Speaking to ‘Waiting for Calciomercato’, via Inter-News.it, journalist Alfredo Pedulla has made a Tottenham Hotspur transfer claim involving Argentina star Lautaro Martinez.

The Lowdown: Martinez saga…

The Times first broke news of Spurs’ move nearly two weeks ago, lifting the lid on a fee which could have reached more than £60 million for the Inter Milan forward.

However, after the Serie A champions sold Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea, the move was instantly called off with Martinez then looking set to stay (Fabrizio Romano).

His agent even confirmed the player is ‘ready to stay’ with contract talks about to be opened, but that hasn’t stopped some reports flooding in as Pedulla brings the latest twist to this saga.

The Latest: Pedulla drops Martinez claim…

Speaking to ‘Waiting for Calciomercato’ (via Inter-News.it), the Sport Italia reporter has made a transfer claim involving Spurs as he indicates they have not quite given up yet.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news/” title=”Tottenham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

He claims that the Lilywhites have tried again for Martinez ‘in the last few days’ and Tottenham are trying to get into a ‘hypothetical dispute’ between the player and his representatives.

“Tottenham also made concrete attempts before the transfer of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea,” Pedulla explains.

“Once the Belgian sold, the Nerazzurri removed Lautaro Martinez from the market, to the satisfaction of the player who never put his foot down. Will have the increase to 6 plus bonuses, that’s up to you.

“Atletico Madrid and Tottenham have also tried in the last few days, trying to get into some hypothetical dispute between Inter and the player’s entourage. But the situation is serene and Lautaro Martinez is happy. The contract is now an obligatory step.”

The Verdict: Interesting news…

While this update doesn’t edge Spurs any closer to signing the star striker, with Martinez still staying as it stands, this could still indicate managing director Fabio Paratici’s determination to strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s options going forward.

The 23-year-old bagged 19 goals and 11 assists across all competitions for Inter last season and would be a stellar addition to Spurs’ attack.

He has also been called ‘phenomenal’ by Serie A journalist Nima Tavallaey Roodsari for his movement, explosiveness, timing and technical ability (The Arsenal Review).

It remains to be seen who Spurs turn to as an alternative to Martinez, but however unlikely they are to sign him, at least Paratici hasn’t quite given up hope judging by this update.

Newcastle transfer update on Hayden

Newcastle United ace Isaac Hayden is now reportedly keen on a move away to a rival in the Premier League before the summer transfer window ends.

The Lowdown: Hayden out?

There have been a number of reports throughout the window so far linking Hayden with a move away from St. James’ Park.

The North East club have not started the 2021/22 season off well, losing both of their opening games in the top flight and thus leaving themselves in the relegation zone, which may persuade the central midfield player to want to seek a new challenge before the window shuts.

The Latest: Head turned

As per Football Insider, Watford have now ‘set their sights’ on signing Hayden, and it is understood that he is ‘keen’ on a move to Vicarage Road.

A source from the Hornets has told the news outlet that they are interested in signing Hayden before the window closes, and a move to them has reportedly appeared to have turned his head.

The Verdict: Keep

The Tyneside club must avoid selling Hayden in this window, especially to a rival in the Premier League.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-updates-5/” title=”Newcastle updates! (5)” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Dubbed ‘outstanding’ by Magpies legend Alan Shearer after a very impressive performance in their 3-2 home win against Southampton in the division back in February, the Englishman was such a key player for them last term, winning no fewer than 5.5 of his duels per game in the top flight, as well as averaging 2.2 tackles, 1.9 clearances and 1.8 interceptions per match (Sofascore).

Nonetheless, with less than a week to go, it would be difficult for Steve Bruce’s team to find a suitable replacement for him.

Celtic: Talks with Giakoumakis on the right track

Celtic’s talks with VVV-Venlo forward Georgios Giakoumakis are on the right track, according to journalist Konstantinos Lianos.

The Lowdown: Scales announced, two more?

Celtic completed their ninth summer signing on Friday morning with the addition of versatile defender Liam Scales.

Reports earlier in the week suggested that Ange Postecoglou could add three more to his squad, with a versatile midfielder and forward on top of a defender which has proven to be Scales.

That forward could well be Giakoumakis, and after having a £2.6m bid accepted, appear to be making progress when it comes to personal terms with the Greece international.

The Latest: Lianos’ post

Lianos had shared what he knew about a possible transfer on Monday and posted an updated version of events on Thursday morning, claiming the Hoops have a ‘significant advantage over Werder Bremen’.

“What I know about Giorgos Giakoumakis part 2:

– Celtic have an agreement with Venlo in principle for around €3million (£2.6m).

– Talks with Giakoumakis continue and seem to be on the right track.

– Celtic have significant advantage over Werder Bremen”

The Verdict: Giakoumakis in, Edouard out?

It could well be a case of one in and one out before the end of the month in regards to Celtic’s attacking ranks.

Giakoumakis could well be the man to come in with talks seemingly heading in the right direction, and should he sign, Odsonne Edouard could seal a long-awaited exit.

The Frenchman has been eyeing up a move away from Parkhead since April, and Bordeaux have now been linked with a late move, so that could be one to keep an eye on along with Giakoumakis.

WHU fans react to Sima news

Many West Ham United fans have been reacting to the news that Abdallah Sima is set to complete a move to Brighton for a fee of £7m.

The end of the transfer window is fast approaching, and all 20 clubs in the Premier League are looking to get their business done as quickly as possible. The Hammers have already captured Kurt Zouma (whufc.com), and are said to be close to securing deals for both Nikola Vlasic (Sky Sports) and Nicolas Tagliafico (De Telegraaf).

They had previously been linked with a move for Sima (The Evening Standard), but that deal now appears to be dead in the water. The Seagulls are now in pole position and are believed to be closing in on a deal for the 19-year-old for a fee of just £7m (The Athletic) – this was a player for whom the Irons were quoted £50m.

The news was shared on Twitter by @louis_central, who quoted the fee at £10m, and it attracted plenty of attention from West Ham supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts on his potential cut-price move to the Amex Stadium.

Fulham confirm Chalobah and Quina deals

Fulham have completed deals to bring both Nathaniel Chalobah and Domingos Quina to Craven Cottage.

What’s the latest?

In a statement posted on the Fulham website in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the club confirmed that Quina had signed for the Cottagers, with the Watford forward joining on a season-long loan deal and the west London side holding an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Shortly after this announcement, the club revealed in a second statement on their website that Chalobah would be following Quina from Watford to Fulham, with the defensive midfielder joining Marco Silva’s side on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

Silva will be buzzing

With Andre-Frank Anguissa joining Napoli on a season-long loan deal on Tuesday, and the Serie A side having an option to purchase the midfielder for €15m (£12.9m) at the end of the current campaign, it appeared clear that Fulham were in need of a replacement for the Cameroon international.

And, following the last-minute swoop for Chalobah, it would appear as if Silva has his man, with the 26-year-old looking to be a very solid replacement for the departed defensive midfielder.

Indeed, over his 38 Championship appearances for Watford last season, the £4.5m-rated man made an average of 1.4 interceptions, 1.6 tackles, 1.4 clearances and won 5.2 duels per game.

He also chipped in for his side in an attacking capacity, scoring three goals, registering one assist and creating one big chance for his teammates, in addition to making an average of 0.3 key passes per game.

These returns saw the England international earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.85, with the midfielder playing a key role in the club securing automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the signing of Quina brings further depth in both the central and attacking midfield positions within Silva’s squad, with his addition appearing to be a sensible signing when taking into account the fact that Tom Cairney does not look likely to recover from his knee injury any time soon.

As such, the last-minute signings are sure to have left the Portuguese manager buzzing, as both Chalobah and Quina look to be players who strengthen what seems to already be a very strong Fulham side, who will undoubtedly be one of the favourites for the league title following their summer transfer business and impressive start to the campaign.
