Two balls later Paul Borrington (duck) played around a shooting off-cutter to go leg before.Having already taken a blow on his right glove when attempting to drop his hands on another spitting delivery from Finn, Derbyshire skipper Chris Rogers attempted to pull a good length ball from Tim Murtagh only to sky a catch to Scott Newman at cover point and went for 10.The slide gathered momentum when Greg Smith (eight) aimed to on-drive a Finn off-cutter and edged low to first slip where Andrew Strauss pocketed a sharp chance to his right then, just before lunch, Garry Park (19) allowed a Gareth Berg in-ducker through the gate.Four overs after the interval Berg bagged another when John Sadler (five) pushed away from his body when following a lifter to be caught behind then, in the next over, Iain O’Brien trapped Lee Goddard (one) leg before on the back foot and flush in front.Finn replaced Berg and was soon back amongst the wickets when left-handed Tom Lungley (four) was drawn into one angled across him to again edge to the wicketkeeper John Simpson. Derbyshire’s plight would have been even worse but for a counter-attacking 59 from 55 balls by debutant left-hander Chesney Hughes, who hit nine fours and a six to dominate a ninth-wicket stand of 72 in 12 overs with Tim Groenewald (27).Hughes, the 19-year-old from Anguilla, doubled his side’s score but lost Groenewald to Shaun Udal’s fifth ball of the day when he skied a catch to deep square leg. Last man Mark Footitt (duck) was then yorked by Murtagh to wrap up a second-successive Middlesex win after they beat leaders Sussex last time out.

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Premier League rivals Norwich City in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon, with Bruno Lage’s men looking to go far in the competition.

The main change from Wolves’ last game, a 2-1 league win at Brentford, is in between the sticks as John Ruddy gets his fourth first-team appearance of the season, replacing first-choice Jose Sa as he did in the previous round.

There is also a change in defence, as Marcal replaces 23-year-old Toti Gomes. The Portuguese defender has made two Premier League appearances so far, winning both games, but must be managed efficiently and giving Marcal a chance shouldn’t cause any complications.

In terms of midfield and wing-backs, the only change is in shape as a 3-5-2 shifts to a 3-4-3 with Joao Moutinho dropping out. The midfielder is 35 and therefore has to also be managed properly in order to continue performing at the high level he has been in the league all season.

Daniel Podence and Fabio Silva keep their places whilst Francisco Trincao comes in on the left-wing. The 22-year-old certainly has potential, with Match of the Day pundit Gary Lineker labelling the Barcelona loanee as a “very promising young player” on his Twitter account after an impressive performance against Manchester United earlier this season.

However, the £19.8m-rated Portuguese winger’s spell at Molineux hasn’t exactly gone to plan so far, with the 22-year-old still yet to score in the league whilst scoring his sole goal in an EFL Cup win over Nottingham Forest.

Striker Raul Jimenez is expected to be available after returning from international duty with Mexico, however, it seems unlikely that he’ll be fit to start and therefore 19-year-old Fabio Silva will have another opportunity to impress his manager.

A Portuguesa venceu o duelo contra o Goiás e conquistou uma vaga nas quartas de final da Copa São Paulo de Futebol Jr. A partida, desta terça-feira, no Canindé, terminou em 1 a 0 para a Lusa. Davi marcou para a equipe da casa.

O primeiro tempo começou com as equipes bem equilibradas. O Goiás ofensivo, aproveitou as laterais do campo para atacar enquanto a Portuguesa, veloz, criava as jogadas principalmente pelo lado esquerdo. Os dois times arriscaram chutes de fora da área, buscando o gol. No final da primeira etapa, a Lusa se destacou, com maior posse de bola. There will be no clean-sweep for England. It was too late to save the series but Australia’s batsmen, led by Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting, finally delivered a total their bowlers could defend at The Oval. Ryan Harris did just that, with five wickets and a Man-of-the-Match award, that handed England a 78-run defeat and offset any disappointment for Clarke, who earlier had been stranded on 99 in setting up Australia’s 290 for 5.Australia’s win will restore a little pride for the visitors, but mostly they will be pleased that a 0-5 result is no longer possible. England’s eight-game winning streak, stretching back to their tour of South Africa in November, ended with a bowling display that was just slightly off the mark, and Australia’s underperforming batsmen seized their opportunity.James Anderson had mastered the yorker earlier in the series but here he fell short too often; in one case comically so as he pitched the ball about a metre in front of his feet. Tim Bresnan has struggled to contain over the past week and did so again, and the spinners Graeme Swann and Michael Yardy were driven into the deep with ease and patience by Ponting and Clarke.Fittingly it was the captain and vice-captain who combined for a 155-run stand and lifted the experienced batting group to their best total of the series. Against an attack energised by Shaun Tait and led by Harris, who collected his third five-wicket haul in a 16-game career, England found their task too great. They had several men who looked capable of guiding the chase, but each fell before he could create major headaches for Ponting.There was Strauss, who punched his way to 37 before Tait’s pace and late swing drew an edge behind. There was Kevin Pietersen, who in six balls looked the most destructive he has in the series, with two boundaries and another denied by the stumps at the non-striker’s end. He was upset to be lbw to Harris advancing down the pitch, but the umpire’s decision was sound.And there was Eoin Morgan, who treated half-volleys from James Hopes with disdain and lifted him over the boundary three times. When Morgan edged behind off Harris for 47, the life drained from the contest. A late 57 from Yardy sparked minor interest from the crowd, but with the required run-rate hovering above nine, it was all too much.England did have their misfortune – Paul Collingwood was wrongly given lbw to a Steven Smith legbreak that would have missed a fourth stump – but the result was set up when their bowlers couldn’t restrict Australia. Neither Ponting (92) nor Clarke were rewarded with a century, but they got their job done.Clarke’s milestone was tantalisingly close. A single off the first ball of the 50th over took him to 99 and he watched on as an in-form Smith faced the rest of the over, leaving Clarke as the ninth player in ODI history to remain unbeaten one short of a hundred, and the third Australian after Dean Jones and Brad Hodge.Although he again struggled to be the boundary man in the final stages, Clarke’s overall effort was his most positive and fluent in limited-overs cricket for some time, and he made Anderson pay for dropping him at cover on 5. A pair of boundaries off Anderson soon afterwards, one over cover and one through the leg side, gave Clarke confidence and he kept the scoreboard ticking over throughout his stand with Ponting.For his part, the captain was in excellent touch and was at his best driving off the back foot through the off side with terrific timing. The scratchiness he showed three days ago at Old Trafford was eradicated as he swept with self-assurance and refused to allow pressure to build through the middle overs.Ponting seemed to be headed for a century when he called the batting Powerplay at the start of the 43rd over but from its first ball, he was caught at cover trying to clear the infield off Anderson. Ponting was gone for 92 off 93 balls, but he had given Australia an excellent platform. His must-win attitude was obvious the moment Shane Watson holed out for 41, giving away another strong start.Watson pinpointed Morgan on the midwicket boundary with a slog-sweep off Swann and as he bowed his head in disappointment, he felt the eyes of his partner Ponting staring at him from the middle of the pitch. This was not what Watson had in mind when he spoke before the match of playing a big innings, and nor was it what the captain was expecting.In the end it didn’t matter. Australia did enough to prevent a whitewash, and will aim to pull the score back to a respectable 3-2 at Lord’s on Saturday.

Liverpool kept the pressure on league leaders Manchester City after beating Leicester 2-0 at Anfield on Thursday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came into the game knowing that only a victory would suffice, and a brace from Diogo Jota did the job.

While the Reds boss will no doubt be delighted with picking up all three points, one man who blew his opportunity to impress the manager was Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian has been one of the main benefactors of seeing both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane head off to AFCON over the last month, but with that tournament over, he knew the clash against the Foxes would be his one last chance to really showcase why he shouldn’t be the man to come out of the starting line-up.

Instead, he fluffed his lines, with Klopp promptly hooking him for a returning Salah early on in the second-half.

As per Sofascore, he lost possession a whopping 17 times in his 60 minutes on the pitch, the second-most of any Liverpool player on the night. He also won just five out of his ten duels as he struggled to get to grips with the pace of the game, finding himself on the periphery of things.

Indeed, his total of 16 passes was actually one less than goalkeeper Alisson who managed 17, and failed to provide any key passes whatsoever or complete any of his two attempted dribbles either.

Writing in his post-match player ratings for The Liverpool Echo, Ian Doyle gave him the joint-lowest score of a six, as he wrote: “Flitted in and around the Leicester back line while linking the play in trademark fashion and forced the corner for the opener. Twice tested Schmeichel, but a little loose on the ball at times. Booked and subbed.”

Having started the past three games in the Premier League, Thursday’s clash against Brendan Rodgers’ side represented the perfect opportunity for Firmino to make that final statement to Klopp before Salah returns to full match fitness and Mane makes his comeback after Senegal’s AFCON triumph.

Instead, the Brazilian forward failed to grasp his chance with both hands.

The 26-year-old is a priceless player for the Whites, with his current absence from a hamstring injury playing a big part in their unconvincing form.

The Verdict: New deal most likely?

The thought of Leeds losing Phillips doesn’t bear thinking about for supporters, not only because of his brilliance as a player – Gareth Southgate has hailed him as ‘excellent’ – but also because of his lifelong affiliation with the club.

It still feels most likely that the England international will sign a new deal, given his loyalty to the Whites, and if he does it will arguably feel like one of the most significant moments of Marcelo Bielsa’s tenure.

It would be naive not to expect some big clubs to come in for Phillips, though, and if Leeds got relegated then the situation would become completely different.
