Manish Pandey, the Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman who became the first Indian to make a century in the IPL, has thanked his state and IPL team-mate Rahul Dravid for inspiring him.”I always look up to him as a cricketer,” Pandey said on returning from South Africa. “Dravid really motivated me on and off the field … I’m really indebted to him.”I was fortunate to bat with him (Dravid) in the semi-final against Chennai Super Kings … I grew up watching him and Sachin Tendulkar so I feel lucky to have played with them.”The 19-year-old Pandey shot into the limelight after making 114 against Deccan Chargers in the final league game before top-scoring with a composed 48 against Chennai Super Kings in the semi-final, both performances fetching him Man-of-the-Match awards.”I am more confident now,” Pandey, who had had few opportunities in the tournament before the game against Deccan, said. “The IPL is a big stage and the performance will surely help me go further. It’s a turning point in my career.”He was also looking forward to a strong showing in the inaugural Champions League in October.Pandey was a member of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning side of 2008, after which he made his first-class debut for Karnataka. He made two half-centuries in the season but his performances were below par, fetching him 193 runs at 27.57 in the Ranji Trophy. “The longer version of cricket tests your cricketing ability,” he said. “You have to be very patient and I am looking forward to prove myself there in the upcoming domestic season.”

وحسبما ذكرت صحيفة “ذا صن” الإنجليزية، فإن الاتحاد الإنجليزي لكرة القدم سيفتح تحقيقًا مع توخيل بشأن التصريحات الهجومية التي أدلى بها ضد الحكم مساء أمس.

وأوضحت أن مسؤولي الاتحاد الإنجليزي سيحققون في التصريحات التي أدلى بها المدرب الألماني، خاصة أنه هاجم تايلور بشكل صريح.

ومن المقرر أن يغيب توخيل، مع مدرب توتنهام أنطونيو كونتي، عن مباراة الفريقين القادمة، بعد حصولهما على بطاقة حمراء بسبب مشادتهما العنيفة بعد اللقاء.

Spurs parted with manager Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday after just four months in charge after the Lilywhites had lost five of their last seven Premier League games (Sky Sports).

As such, the hunt is on for a new manager, and it seems that the Italian is a front-runner for the role.

The Latest: Conte contract revealed

According to Sportmediaset, it appears that an 18-month contract has been offered by Spurs to Conte, who has been out of work since leaving Inter Milan at the end of last season.

The deal is said to be worth €15m (£12.7m) per season which, for a season-and-a-half, would be worth about €22.5m (£19m).

The Verdict: Worth it?

There is no doubting Conte’s pedigree. The 52-year-old is a five-time league title winner, having won Serie A with both Inter Milan and Juventus and the Premier League with Chelsea. He also led Italy to a Euro 2016 quarter-finals – quite frankly, he is a winner.

However, he does not always have the best relationship with those above him. He left Inter in the summer as the club sold top players such as Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku, while he fell out with the hierarchy at Chelsea as well (via The London Evening Standard).

Daniel Levy is known as a tough negotiator – Conte may get results on the pitch, but it might come to the detriment of the club spirit. At what could come out at more than £287,000 per game – there are 28 top-flight matches left this season and 38 next term – that could be an expensive risk.

The Royal Gazette reported that two first division games finished early while another was marred by unpleasant scenes.The worst scenes came in a match between Leg Trappers and Western Stars when a disputed catch triggered a series of rows which culminated in a changing room allegedly being trashed. Trouble flared when a batsman refused to walk, leading to a confrontation with fielders which continued despite attempts by umpires to intervene. Eventually, the players left the field and that is when equipment was damaged.The game between Devonshire and Willow Cuts was also abandoned after a family row at the ground which led to a fight between two related Devonshire players. Again, the umpires scrapped the match in the interests of players’ safety.In another fixture between Southampton Rangers and Social Club, a group of Rangers’ players are believed to have pressured an umpire into changing a run-out decision after he was surrounded by angry fielders. The newspaper reported that a Social Club player “showed his contempt for the decision by walking on to the field without proper attire, removing the bails and pulling the stumps out of the ground”.

Essa avaliação é do meia Rodriguinho, que mostrou otimismo para o clássico contra o Santos, domingo, às 16h, na Vila Belmiro, pela 23ª rodada do Brasileirão. O jogador acredita que o Timão poderá ter vantagem por causa do estilo de jogo do Peixe, que busca atacar seus adversários quando joga em casa.

– Todo jogo é especial, e por se tratar de clássico nos dá uma motivação a mais. Na minha opinião, nas partidas que perdemos, jogamos mais que os adversários (Vitória e Atlético-GO). A equipe adversária se defendeu, e não conseguimos colocar as bolas para dentro. Quando nosso time joga contra um adversário que ataca, o jogo é outro. Por isso vamos para lá confiantes, mesmo jogando fora de casa, em busca da vitória – disse Rodriguinho, em entrevista coletiva após o treino desta terça-feira.

Rodriguinho minimizou o fato de a vantagem do Corinthians para o vice-líder Grêmio ter caído para sete pontos na última rodada. Por outro lado, o jogador fez um alerta para o clássico: não pode deixar a diferença de 12 pontos para o Santos, terceiro colocado, cair.

– É um jogo muito importante pelo fato de não deixar o Santos se aproximar. Temos de ter bastante cuidado para ter boa performance e merecer a vitória – afirmou.

Outro fator que deixa Rodriguinho animado para o clássico é a possibilidade de o técnico Fábio Carille contar com o time ideal. A única dúvida é Arana, que voltou a trabalhar em campo nesta terça-feira após recuperar-se de lesão na coxa direita.

– O clima está bom. Por mais que a distância tenha diminuído, estamos confiantes em retomar o caminho das vitórias. Ter todo mundo à disposição nos dá confiança para retomar o trabalho – disse Rodriguinho, que explicou por que está tranquilo mesmo após as duas derrotas.

– Acho que a tranquilidade tem de existir no trabalho para mantermos o foco. Acho que a palavra é essa: foco. A equipe está ciente do que tem de fazer durante o ano. O time tem de estar focado para manter o ritmo para voltar a vencer. É normal essa oscilação, mas não podemos perder o foco – opinou o jogador.

Sky Sports have dropped an on-air update regarding Rangers manager Steven Gerrard possibly joining Aston Villa.

The Lowdown: Klopp to have a say?

Yes, you read that right, apparently Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will have a major say in Villa’s pursuit of Gerrard.

According to Football Insider, a critical factor in a possible move to Villa Park for the 41-year-old will be the Reds manager and how long he intends to stay at Anfield. His current contract runs until 2024 and, whenever he does leave, Gerrard will be the favourite to succeed the German on Merseyside.

The Latest: Sky Sports update

Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett gave an update outside Villa Park on the managerial situation and ran the rule over a number of candidates, as relayed on Twitter by Football Daily.

One of those was Gerrard, about whom Dorsett said:

“When it comes to Steven Gerrard, it might not be easy for Villa to prise him away from Rangers. Although, the chief executive here, Christian Purslow, was managing director at Liverpool and worked very closely with Gerrard – the two men are pretty close, as I understand it.”

The Verdict: Purslow to be key?

Reports have suggested that sporting director Johan Lange will play a key role in securing Dean Smith’s long-term replacement.

However, if Gerrard is the man that Villa want, then perhaps Purslow needs to take a more prominent role due to his connections with the 41-year-old, especially with Dorsett that believing it might be difficult to bring him to the Midlands from Ibrox.

It looks set to be a busy few weeks at Villa Park, with reports later on Monday suggesting that Villa will now make an approach for Gerrard, who is thought to be interested in the job.
