Fabio Paratici could turn to his former club in an attempt to bolster Tottenham Hotspur’s playing squad this winter…

What’s the word?

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Spurs are plotting a double swoop on Serie A giants Juventus for attacking midfielder Dejan Kulusevski and centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

The 31-time Dutch international is likely to cost the bulk of the deal, with a fee in the region of €100m (£86m) mooted by the report.

Paratici signed the young 22-year-old colossus from Ajax in a £70m deal during summer 2019 and he has since evolved into one of the standout performers in Turin.

If the Italian supremo can secure his former signing in north London, then it would be one outstanding and a major coup for Spurs.

De Ligt was an absolute rock for Juventus last season, displaying incredible defensive attributes that makes him one of the best emerging talents in the game.

As per WhoScored, he averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 2.1 aerial duels won per game, proving that he has an impressive ability to read the game and act, on top of his evident physical attributes.

He was just as good with the ball at his feet, as expected in the modern-day. Despite averaging a whopping 63.9 passes each outing, he still managed to keep his accuracy rate at 92.5%.

This is a stark improvement on Eric Dier, who started out life as a midfielder. His ball-playing qualities should be up there with the best but quite frankly, de Ligt’s returns show that he would be a massive, massive upgrade in N17.

The Englishman has started every single Premier League game under Nuno Santo this season but has managed a disappointing 83.9% passing accuracy, whilst he is yet to even record a tackle and merely averages 0.8 interceptions per match, also via WhoScored.

De Ligt has previously been dubbed an “absolute monster” by Italian football expert and broadcaster Carlo Garganese, whilst his agent, Mino Raiola once claimed: “Matthijs is like an oil tanker, you can’t expect him to suddenly turn 90 degrees. He goes steadily. But, once he’s on course, he can’t be stopped.”

On the above evidence, Paratici could quite easily transform Spurs’ defence in one fell swoop for the Dutch beast. He’s clearly way better than someone like Dier, at such a younger age too.

It will be a very hard transfer to make but if the Italian pulls it off, it has to be regarded as one of the biggest-ever signings in north London – that’s for sure.

O desejo de dar voz à geração do Vasco que fez história entre 1997 e 2000 se transformou em livro. Com previsão de lançamento para agosto, “Monumental – O Vasco de 1997 a 2000”, de Thiago Correia, aborda o período em que o torcedor cruz-maltino faturou seis títulos e viu passar por São Januário uma série de craques. O livro traz cerca de 60 depoimentos, entre eles de ex-jogadores do clube, como Edmundo, Juninho, Donizete, Luizão, Mauro Galvão e Felipe.

Em entrevista ao LANCE!, o jornalista detalhou como a ideia saiu do papel:

– Algo que provavelmente acontece com todo mundo que chega aos 30 anos, é ter que explicar para a garotada se aqueles jogadores eram bons mesmo. Eles não apenas eram isso tudo dentro das quatro linhas, como protagonizavam histórias inimagináveis no futebol atual. E eu sempre tive o desejo de escrever algum livro, mas faltava a ideia. Até que li “95 – A tua estrela brilha”, de Claudio Portella e Rafael Casé, contando o título brasileiro do Botafogo daquele ano, e veio a inspiração de transformar aquela geração em livro.

Thiago Correia ainda apontou que as entrevistas trouxeram algumas surpresas. Dentre elas, sobre um craque e um treinador que passou pela Colina:

– A importância do Edmundo em 1997 fora de campo foi surpreendente. Dentro das quatro linhas é desnecessário falar, mas vi que ele foi fundamental para que aquele time encaixasse, para que todos comprassem a ideia e compreendessem a importância de tudo aquilo. Também aconteceu uma desconstrução da imagem estereotipada do Antônio Lopes. Sempre tive uma visão dele ser um grande treinador, essencial para toda aquela geração, mas vejo, e posso estar errado, que a torcida vascaína não o valoriza como deveria. Foi bem bacana ver a gratidão, o reconhecimento que aqueles profissionais têm pelo Lopes, e o amplo conhecimento que ele tem de futebol.

Segundo o autor, a produção do livro trouxe uma visão diferente sobre aquela época. Na “era” abordada no livro, o Vasco foi campeão brasileiro de 1997 e 2000, da Copa Libertadores de 1998, do Carioca de 1998, do Torneio Rio-São Paulo de 1999 e da Copa Mercosul de 2000.

– Como vários anos se passaram e o Vasco nunca teve outro momento que pudesse se comparar àquele, a perspectiva mudou sim. As minhas primeiras lembranças do Vasco são do tri do Estadual, depois vem essa geração. Na cabeça de uma criança passando para a pré-adolescência, aquele era o normal: rotina de títulos. Mas não foi bem assim. E acho que para qualquer vascaíno, qualquer time vencedor que venha no futuro será comparado à equipe de 1997 a 2000.

Thiago Correia ainda arriscou-se a avaliar em qual estilo se encaixaria “Monumental”:

– Acredito que em um bom e velho romance. Há personagens bem específicos, momentos bem marcantes com alegrias gigantes, mas também outros de tristezas profundas. Um início bem definido e também uma conclusão clara daquele momento.

“Monumental – O Vasco de 1997 a 2000”, de Thiago Correia, será lançado em agosto pelo selo Drible de Letra, da Editora Multifoco.

Horton, born in Australia but schooled in Liverpool, is fresh from a spell captaining the Western Australian club side Gosnalls and the trip has clearly been of great use. Kevin Phillips says Everton may look to offload midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin in the January transfer window. 

The former Sunderland striker was discussing the Ivorian’s future with Football Insider.

The lowdown

Everton paid £22.5million to sign Gbamin from Bundesliga outfit FSV Mainz in 2019, ranking him in their top 15 biggest transfers (via Transfermarkt).

But he’s endured a torrid time at Goodison Park, making just four appearances across more than two seasons.

He’s suffered three serious injuries, including an MCL injury just over a week after he’d returned from an Achilles tendon rupture.

Off the field, meanwhile, Gbamin was hit with a £25,000 fine and a 14-month driving ban after an incident in August (via Liverpool Echo).

The latest

Phillips, a regular on Sky Sports, says Everton may now have lost patience with Gbamin and thinks that they may look to ‘get him off the payroll’ as they did with £200,000-per-week star James Rodriguez, who left for Qatari side Al Rayyan last month.

“From a football point of view, he has had injuries, he has not been playing and then this,” Phillips said. “Come January they may look to move him on.

“Like Rodriguez, they might try to get him off the payroll and use the money to strengthen somewhere else.

“I imagine it’s been difficult for him since moving to Everton and this incident has just topped it off. It is not good to see.”

The verdict

Gbamin’s wages, it should be said, are a considerably smaller burden than those of Rodriguez. He’s said to earn £25,000 per week.

It is, however, increasingly difficult to see him making a success of his Everton career, and maybe it’s best to move on.

If he was to leave in January, then he’d surely have to go down as one of the least impactful big-money signings in Premier League history.

Many Glasgow Rangers fans have been left buzzing as some footage emerged of Kemar Roofe bagging for Jamaica against Honduras in the early hours of Thursday morning.

As shared by the official Twitter page of the Ibrox faithful, the 28-year-old scored his first goal for Jamaica, as he tapped home from a driven cross to give his team the lead in the first half.

Having been born in England, Roofe has switched his allegiances to Jamaica in order to get more opportunities to play, and it certainly looks to have been the right decision as he scored what he will hope will be the first of many at international level.

With Premier League stars such as Leon Bailey and Michail Antonio who also play for the national team, there is no doubt that the striker will enjoy his time playing for his country.

وأضاف: “الأهلي يحتاج إلى أجنحة وأرى أن مصطفى فتحي قادر على تقديم الإضافة وسد هذا العجز في الفريق”.

وأكمل: “خناقات الأندية في الانتقالات على بعض اللاعبين أمر غير مفهوم، لا يوجد لاعب في الدوري المصري يستحق هذا النوع من التنافس على التعاقد معه، من الممكن أن يحدث ذلك مع لاعب يمتلك 45 مباراة دولية وهذا غير موجود في الدوري الممتاز بالوقت الحالي”.

وأتم: “أحمد سيد غريب قدم أداء أفضل من حسام حسن، استنادًا لما شاهدناه من الأول في مباراة اليوم أمام الاتحاد السكندري”.
