Alan Pardew has dropped an inside claim on what it was like to work with Mike Ashley during his time as manager of Newcastle United.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, the Englishman claimed that ‘there was a lot of anti-feeling’ between himself and the Magpies chief.

He admitted that the job at the St. James’ Park faithful was ‘stressful’ and ‘tough’ with the criticism that was on his shoulders, as he also revealed some insight into the transfer strategy that Ashley had when he was in charge.

Unfortunately for Pardew, he was a manager in the North East club that was victimised for being associated with Ashley.

He was far from perfect, but his record on Tyneside was not actually too bad, guiding them to a very impressive fifth-placed finish in the Premier League in the 2011/12 term, as he also managed to stable the ship after the Magpies were promoted back up to the top flight from the EFL Championship (Transfermarkt).

Judging by his comments on the sort of funds that Ashley was giving him for transfers as well, in which he admitted it was ‘difficult’ to work on such a tight budget, the former West Ham United, Southampton and Crystal Palace boss did bring in some gems to the Magpies, such as Papiss Cisse, Yohan Cabaye and Jamaal Lascelles, who is now captain.

Nonetheless, perhaps Pardew should not have been given quite such a hard time at NUFC for the cards that he was dealt with.

Participaram do treino: Jailson, Jean, Edu Dracena, Vitor Hugo, Zé Roberto, Egídio, Thiago Santos, Gabriel, Tchê Tchê, Moisés, Dudu, Alecsandro, Róger Guedes e Rafael Marques. Cuca fez um treino tático sem adversário, com todos estes no campo.

Primeiro, Egídio, Gabriel e Rafael Marques ficavam apenas no gramado, mas não participavam do treino. Depois, os três foram liberados para entrar na movimentação da equipe titular, nos lugares de Zé Roberto, Thiago Santos e Alecsandro, que então pararam.

Dos que estão convocados, Barrios não tem chances de começar jogando. Caso tenham condições, Mina entraria na vaga de Edu Dracena, enquanto Gabriel Jesus é uma opção para o lugar ocupado por Rafael e Alecsandro nesta tarde. Os dois voltam de suas seleções na quarta.

Portanto, a possível escalação tem: Jailson; Jean, Edu Dracena (Mina), Vitor Hugo e Egídio (Zé Roberto); Thiago Santos (Gabriel), Tchê Tchê e Moisés; Dudu, Róger Guedes e Gabriel Jesus (Alecsandro ou Rafael Marques).

Na vitória contra o Atlético-MG, a torcida alvinegra colocou o maior público da Arena Botafogo na temporada:14.595 torcedores se fizeram presentes no jogo na Ilha do Governador, batendo o recorde de 11.422 torcedores no jogo contra o Santos. A journalist has named two players at Manchester United who went to confront Ed Woodward in a revolt against the proposed European Super League (ESL).

As per a tweet from Leah Smith, who is a reporter for Stretty News and Caught Offside, both Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire ‘confronted Ed Woodward’ and were ‘heavily involved’ in a player revolt behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have since officially withdrawn from the ESL, and Woodward will leave his post at the end of the year, although it is not clear whether the timing of this announcement is because of the ESL backlash.

Shaw and Maguire show leadership

Maguire, being the captain of the club, showed true leadership in deciding to confront Woodward, while Shaw’s big part in the revolt should also not go unnoticed.

They echoed the opinion of their fanbase in wanting to withdraw from the ESL and they all got their wish in the end.

With the proposed league now seemingly done and dusted, at least for MUFC, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team can now focus on the rest of the season, in which they still need to cement themselves in the top four of the Premier League and try to go on and win the UEFA Europa League as well, which would bring the Norwegian boss his first piece of major silverware while managing his former club.

A European trophy, Woodward out and a top four finish sounds like a pretty nice end to the season for the Old Trafford faithful.

Charlton Athletic will be looking to return to winning ways on Tuesday as Nigel Adkins leads his team into the final four games of the regular season – next up are 15th-placed Crewe Alexandra.

The south London side slipped to a 1-0 defeat against second-placed Peterborough United at the weekend, but the Addicks now face an easier test on paper, with Crewe languishing in the bottom half of the League One table.

A win this evening is essential in ensuring that Charlton keep pace in the race for a top-six finish, even though they still hold games in hand over their nearest challengers, but will Adkins be tempted into any changes?

Here’s our predicted XI, along with the latest team and injury news from The Valley…

With Adkins having a number of players returning from the sidelines, as well as one new injury to deal with, the 56-year-old has some big decisions to make ahead of Tuesday evening’s game. As a result, we’re expecting there to be two changes to the line-up from the game against Peterborough three days ago.

The Addicks manager confirmed that Diallang Jaiyesimi will miss the clash due to a hamstring pull he suffered on Saturday, but Ryan Inniss – who was holding his left knee before being replaced against Posh – and Ian Maatsen – who has missed the last three games due to a hip injury – are both available for selection.

As such, Maatsen looks set to be a straight swap for Jaiyesimi on the right-hand side of the Charlton attack, while Inniss retains his place in the heart of defence after recovering from his knock against Peterborough.

The only other change sees 28-year-old Conor Washington come in for Jayden Stockley in attack, as the latter put in a disappointing performance on Saturday, missing a penalty and receiving a SofaScore match rating of just 6.4 for his efforts, ranking him as Charlton’s worst player on the day.

Elsewhere, Adkins’ midfield and defence from the Peterborough game should remain untouched, meaning that Adam Matthews keeps his place at right-back ahead of Chris Gunter.

Leicester City will be aiming to make it back-to-back Premier League victories on Monday evening as they do battle with Crystal Palace.

The Foxes head into the clash at the King Power Stadium having soundly defeated West Bromwich Albion 3-0 last Thursday.

Will Rodgers be tempted to rotate much for the visit of the Eagles?

We are expecting just a couple of changes to the team that dispatched of the Baggies last week.

Kasper Schmeichel will, of course, be in goal as he has been for the Foxes’ last 108 league matches.

The Dane is set to be shielded by a strong back-three with Jonny Evans, Caglar Soyuncu and Wesley Fofana all selected. The former will be hoping to get on the scoresheet once more having netted against West Brom last time out.

There might be a slight alteration out-wide though. Timothy Castagne will doubtless play after an exhilarating showing against the Baggies on Thursday but Ricardo Pereira could return after sitting out the previous game.

Should he be fit enough, he will replace young left-back Luke Thomas, despite it possibly being better for the latter to remain in the starting XI.

Wilfred Ndidi and Youri Tielemans should start again having harnessed a hugely impressive understanding this season.

There should, however, be a slight alteration in front of that duo with £110k per week James Maddison, who is only just making his return from a long-term lay-off, replaced by Ayoze Perez.
