Neco Williams has become something of a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side in the last few matches, following the injury suffered by Trent Alexander-Arnold shortly before the international break.

The academy graduate may become an even more important member of the Reds’ first-team in the coming weeks, following the injury to makeshift right-back James Milner in the recent 1-1 draw against Brighton.

That leaves Williams as the only fit right-back at the club, so the Reds will be breathing a sigh of relief that he wasn’t let go during the summer transfer window as this period of Christmas fixtures could well be the making of the 19-year-old.

Fans of the Merseyside club will be hoping that the youngster starts to show the sort of performances he enjoys with Wales with the Reds, with Ryan Giggs in particular full of praise for Williams after a recent performance against Bulgaria.

Denis terá a grande responsabilidade de substituir Rogério Ceni, agora aposentado, como titular na meta do São Paulo em 2016. E o início de uma nova era para o clube foi marcado por respostas afiadas do goleiro de 28 anos em entrevista coletiva no CT da Barra Funda. Do português de Diego Lugano aos novos treinos para os arqueiros, Denis falou de tudo, sem poupar detalhes.

Para esta temporada, o Tricolor decidiu trocar o comando da preparação de goleiros. Haroldo Lamounier, que treinava os arqueiros profissionais desde 2003, assumiu as categorias de base, que mandaram Carlos Gallo para o time de cima. E o trabalho do ex-goleiro da Seleção Brasileira já tem deixado Denis mais satisfeito com uma semana de pré-temporada.

– Trabalhei com o Carlos dois anos na Ponte Preta (2007 e 2008). Desde que cheguei só havia trabalhado com o Haroldo, que me preparou muito bem. Sempre foi um excelente. Agora são métodos diferentes. Com os dois tive o ápice do meu corpo, mas oHaroldo, na verdade, fazia mais treinos específicos para o Rogério. Sem o Rogério, que precisava de mais atenção, o Carlos trabalha mais chutes e cruzamentos, que não fazíamos mais tanto. Cabe a nós goleiros encontrar a melhor forma de trabalhar – apontou.

A de cobrador de faltas segue sem candidato, já que Denis crê que é momento de focar no desempenho debaixo das traves. A de capitão deve cair nos braços do zagueiro uruguaio Diego Lugano, que chegou ao clube nesta quarta-feira e já foi alvo de gozações de Denis.

-Encontrei com ele no café da manhã… Ele dispensa comentários. Já mostrou que joga muito bem e vem para nos ajudar. Com Lugano na zaga, teremos um líder mais experiente para ajudar o grupo. O Rogério fez mais de 800 jogos como capitão da equipe. Já fui aqui também, mas isso é da comissão técnica. Se um dia me escolherem, vou tentar ser o melhor. Se não for, vou ajudar quem for a orientar a todos.Fala muito mal português, mas entende bem o que fala. Então tá ótimo. Se falar devagar, eu também entendo (risos) – brincou.

Na despedida do Rogério Ceni, até depois do jogo com o Goiás, ele veio falar comigo, desejou boa sorte, disse que seu ciclo havia acabado e falou que eu vinha aprendendo há sete anos com eles, que estava pronto para dar sequência ao trabalho.Você pode ver de duas formas. Trabalhando com ele você sabe que ele sempre vai jogar quando se recuperar de algo. Com ele aposentado, vem o peso de precisar subsitui-lo e sofrer com a pressão. Me preparei para isso e quero dar sequência ao trabalho.

PREPARAÇÃO
​Foram sete anos de espera, de aprendizado e de trabalho ao lado de um ídolo incrível. Sempre tive que colocar a cabeça em ordem para treinar a cada dia, porque não sabia quando precisariam de mim.Ter a perspectiva de ser titular é diferente. Me preparei muito nas férias, principalmente na parte psicológica para da chegar confiante. Quero estar no meu melhor quando começarem o Paulista e a Libertadores.Sei que a cobrança no começo será difícil. Se houver uma falha, vai aumentar, independentemente de ser o substituto do Rogério. Espero não ter atritos, porque venho buscando conquistar a torcida ao longo dos anos. Peço paciência nessa nova era, sem Rogério e com Denis.

LIDERANÇA
Agora é que vai começar a aparecer líder. Não vai ser só o Lugano, claro que será pioneiro pela experiência, mas a equipe precisa ter mais para ter mais cobrança no elenco. Com o decorrer do tempo esses novos líderes vão aparecer.Vou descobrir com o tempo. Aprendi muita coisa na convivência com o Rogério e sei que precisaria me impor para ser líder. Acho que vai acontecer aos poucos. Precisa ver como a equipe vai se portar nos primeiros jogos. Quero ter essa liderança para ajudar ainda mais a equipe.

LUGANO
Com a chegada dele e mais alguns reforços, é importante para ter um time competitivo e focado para vencer títulos. O importante é ter concentração e compactação. Ele ficou muito feliz com a festa que fizeram para ele. Comentou que foi uma loucura e que nunca tinha vivido aquilo. Ele está feliz e sabe o carinho que o torcedor tem por ele.

BAUZA
Nesses primeiros treinos deu para ver que o Bauza se preocupa em ter um time organizado. Isso ele não abre mão. Tem a preocupação com a defesa, vem corrigindo muitas coisas na linha defensiva e vai arrumar para não sofrermos tantos gols.Dá para entender perfeitamente o que ele fala. Ele para o treino para corrigir o posicionamento, fala tudo o que temos que melhorar. E tem bastante coisa. Isso é muito importante para nós jogadores para entendermos a forma que ele quer que o time jogue. Cobra muito a linha defensiva.

Feeble at the back and average going forward, pretty much every aspect of Elhamed’s game was anonymous on Thursday evening.

To sum things up, three of the host’s four goals came down his side of the pitch. This was a real opportunity to stake his claim to Lennon but instead, he let his manager down.

It could cost him his place in the XI.
