Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed a busy and productive summer transfer window but the north Londoners could live to regret missing out on one man…

What’s the word?

According to Get French Football News, Ligue 1 outfit Lyon rejected a bid from Spurs for their striker Moussa Dembele in the final week of the window.

It’s claimed that Daniel Levy offered a similar deal to that of Giovani Lo Celso, an initial loan with an obligation to buy, and the 24-year-old’s agent Pini Zahavi was keen to make the move.

However, it was quickly rebuffed by Lyon boss Rudi Garcia, who then axed him from their Sunday night game with Marseille. Spurs were left frustrated and instead signed off a loan-to-buy for Benfica frontman Carlos Vinicius.

Willian 2.0?

Should Spurs have tried harder to clinch the prolific Frenchman? Going by history, the answer is probably yes.

In a weird reversal of the situation, this move could bear similarities to that of Willian back in 2013.

The Brazillian winger was on the verge of signing for Tottenham before a late change of heart saw him end up at local rivals Chelsea and whilst Dembele is remaining at Lyon for now, that could quickly change after another good campaign.

Dembele bagged 16 goals whilst averaging 2.1 shots, 0.9 dribbles and 0.8 key passes per game, via WhoScored, it’s no wonder he’s been lauded as the “perfect no.9” before.

“He is an exceptional player,” once said Man City boss Pep Guardiola whilst former Celtic teammate Leigh Griffiths described the 24-year-old as “one of the top young talents in Europe,” adding that he’s “unplayable” at times.

Spurs could well be onto a winner with Vinicius, something that only time will tell but you can’t help but feel they may have missed a trick with the £36m-rated Lyon talisman.

The Willian saga has haunted N17 for many, many years so hopefully, Dembele doesn’t come back to hurt Spurs in the future whether that be in Europe or if he clinches that move to the Premier League

Segundo a assessoria do clube, a decisão do Palmeiras de não entrar no programa foi tomada pelo Conselho de Orientação e Fiscalização (COF). O clube tem uma dívida de cerca de R$ 50 milhões com a União, segundo levantamento do especialista em gestão esportiva Amir Somoggi.

Além dos clubes poderem pagar suas dívidas fiscais em até 240 meses, o governo oferece descontos de 70% nas multas, 40% nos juros e 100% dos encargos legais por meio do programa. Entretanto, os participantes terão que cumprir diversas contrapartidas, como limitar o tempo de mandato dos presidentes e os investimentos para o departamento de futebol.

O técnico Dorival Júnior não comandou o treinamento do Santos nesta sexta-feira, penúltimo dia de trabalhos antes da rodada final do Brasileirão, domingo, contra o Atlético-PR. Na primeira atividade aberta à imprensa após o vice da Copa do Brasil, o treinador permaneceu na parte interna do CT Rei Pelé e teve uma reunião com dirigentes do clube. Durante a tarde, os cinco discutiram o futuro do Santos em 2016, ano de disputa do Paulistão, da Copa do Brasil e do Campeonato Brasileiro. Segundo o departamento de comunicação do clube, consultado em razão da ausência de Dorival no gramado nesta sexta-feira, a reunião foi justamente para a definição do planejamento do ano que vem.

Desta vez com Dorival, o Santos ainda terá mais um trabalho antes de enfrentar o Atlético-PR no domingo, às 17h, na Vila Belmiro. O grupo se reúne no CT Rei Pelé na manhã deste sábado, quando o treinador definirá a escalação da equipe que encerra o Brasileirão pelo Peixe. Há possibilidade de o treinador não utilizar sua força máxima, e apostar em jogadores que tiveram pouco espaço durante 2015.

Os únicos desfalques de Dorival para a partida final do Brasileirão são o zagueiro David Braz e o volante Valencia, lesionados, o goleiro Vanderlei, suspenso, e o volante Ledesma, que pediu liberação e voltou à Itália nesta quinta-feira. O Peixe é sétimo colocado do Brasileirão e pode terminar no máximo em quinto lugar.

Southampton centre-back Jannik Vestergaard has shed light on his transfer situation over the last 12 months. The Denmark international admitted that a move was on his mind earlier this year, but he ultimately decided to stay at the request of Ralph Hasenhuttl and the club.

Speaking to Goal.com, Vestergaard mentioned the fact that even in the summer, clubs had come knocking for his services. However, since being convinced to stay, his focus is only on Southampton and he has not received any information on interested parties from his agent.

Whilst his loyalty to the club is admirable, the Saints should look to reevaluate their decision. Is the 28-year-old a player Southampton are reliant on?

Hasenhuttl made a mistake with Verstergaard talks

It’s certainly an odd decision to keep Vestergaard at the club following his quiet 2019/20 season. The Dane was dropped for 17 Premier League matches and missed a further two due to picking up a knock (via Transfermarkt). This hints that Hasenhuttl had no real desire to deploy the defender, especially having four players in the same position fighting for their role in the squad.

When Vestergaard has been on the pitch, he’s been subject to a lot of criticism. Lots of Southampton fans have ridiculed his performances and even club icon Matt Le Tissier has given him both barrels. Speaking to Sky Sports (via HITC), the pundit slammed the Saints man for not doing enough to mark his man.

“It’s a really odd habit to get into,” Le Tissier said following Southampton’s loss to West Ham last year.

But Vestergaard hasn’t just been disappointing for his club, his international displays have also left a lot to be desired. Denmark’s most recent match against England saw him play just 16 minutes, with the previous fixture leaving him reduced to the bench (via Sofascore).

Leicester were reported to be linked to Southampton’s controversial man, but a move didn’t materialise. Hasenhuttl should look to strike up talks against once the January window comes round, in hopes to cash in on the man slowly being phased out of the team.

وأشار رونالد كومان: “هذا الأمر يجعل الأندية أكثر توازنًا من فريقنا، ورغم ذلك أظهرنا هذا الموسم أننا يمكننا التنافس معهم في الليجا، رغم سوء الحظ والإصابات التي تلازمنا، وفي النهاية النتيجة لم تكن في صالحنا”.

وشدد: “الدوري الإسباني ما زال مستمرًا، وهناك العديد من المباريات، لا يمكن أن نحدد من المرشح للفوز باللقب الآن”.

واختتم: “سيرجيو هداف دائمًا، وكذلك ديباي، أعتقد أن أجويرو لعب مباراة رائعة اليوم، ولا يمكنني الشكوى من عدم وجود هدافين في فريقي، النتيجة لم تكن عادلة لأننا حاولنا كثيرًا على مرمى رايو”.

Wolves forward Adama Traore has been linked with a number of clubs over the summer, but one of the main contenders have now pulled out of the race for his signature.

Turin not tempted by Traore

The 24-year-old has been putting in a string of impressive performances for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side over the past 12 months, which has helped him pick up his first cap for Spain at the beginning of the month.

The Spaniard is a regular starter for the Portuguese tactician and has scored seven times and provided 15 assists from 96 appearances (TransferMarkt), which led to huge praise from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who described him as ‘unplayable’ when his side came up against him last season.

Understandably, this attracted interest from the Merseysiders, as well as Manchester City, his former side Barcelona and Juventus in recent months.

But according to Calciomercato, the Serie A giants have been put off by Wolves’ €100m (£90m) price tag for Traore, adding that another factor could be the amount of interest that is being generated has left them with no choice but to withdraw.

Traore is not even close to being the top wage earner at the club, taking home £43k-a-week (Spotrac), but if he finds his form again there will likely be plenty of teams lining up to more than double that figure.

Huge boost for the Molineux faithful

This news will surely delight Wolves fans. Not just because they are keeping hold of a talented player, but it gives them the indication that the club are being firm when it comes to big clubs snooping around their personnel.

Ele atua muito bem como o primeiro meia. Gosta de buscar o jogo e cair pelo setor esquerdo, partindo para o ataque. Para que o torcedor brasileiro tenha uma comparação, já que não deve acompanhar o Sarmiento, time de menor porte na Argentina, o futebol deste jogador se assemelha ao de Dátolo, que todos conhecem do Atlético Mineiro.

Só não esperem que ele venha resolver problemas de gols. Gervasio Balança as redes poucas vezes. Ele é um garçom.

Leeds chalked up yet another 4-1 loss after Crystal Palace made easy work of brushing aside their Premier League opponents. The back-to-back heavy defeats will not have gone down well with Marcelo Bielsa and morale in camp will be low. Arsenal await the Whites in their next game, which could prove to be another tough test for them.

After their loss to the Eagles, Leeds have slipped into 14th in the league table, now level on points with Manchester United. Helder Costa was unlucky to contribute an own goal but he wasn’t the only player to put in a poor performance.

Stuart Dallas disappointed vs Palace

Stuart Dallas was successful in just 74% of his attempted passes and none of his crosses. He also lost possession a worrying 19 times and was dribbled past twice (via Sofascore). This will be disappointing to both the fans and the player himself after he bagged himself a goal against Leicester.

His performance against Aston Villa was impressive too, registering three tackles, three interceptions and completing five of his attempted seven long balls.

Dallas’ inconsistent performances could be down to being played in several different positions. The £2.7million-valued defender’s versatility is something Bielsa can count on. But after playing further up the field today and at right-back against Villa, it seems he is more of a man to fill the gaps.

It will certainly be a disappointing loss for the Whites and a learning curve for the manager as he considers different tactics moving into their upcoming match against Arsenal. Bielsa has the international break to try out some new things on the training pitch and get the best out of his players.
