Leeds United will be hoping for an end to their two-year Premier League exile by the end of the season, looking to claim promotion under Daniel Farke.
The German has done a superb job in steadying the ship after relegation in 2023, keeping the core of the squad and adding quality in needed areas to bolster their ambitions.
Departures of key players over the summer such as Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter were always going to make the task of promotion difficult after the play-off final defeat last year.
However, the hierarchy has recruited excellently, adding serious quality with the likes of Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka, softening the blow of the high-profile departures.
The impact of the aforementioned duo has allowed the Whites to stay in touch with the leading pack in the Championship, producing some incredible numbers during the opening months of the campaign.
The impact of Leeds’ summer additions in 2024/25
Japanese international Tanaka arrived in a £3.5m deal from German side Fortuna Düsseldorf during the off-season, joining as an unknown quantity to the majority of the fanbase.
However, the 26-year-old has rapidly endeared himself to the supporters, producing some incredible performances and already looking to be worth much more than what they forked out for his signature.
The midfielder has averaged 74 successful passes per 90 so far this season – ranking him sixth in the division – completing 92% of the passes he’s attempted.
Tanaka completed 114 passes in the victory over Luton Town at Elland Road a couple of weeks ago, the most by a Whites player in over a decade – a further example of the quality he’s brought to Yorkshire.
As for winger Ramazani, he was always going to face a difficult task replacing the threat of Summerville, but the Belgian has already proved his worth since his transfer.
The former Manchester United academy ace has already scored three and assisted once in his opening ten league matches for the club – offering Farke a viable option in the final third.
Largie Ramazani
However, Farke must be wishing that he kept hold of one other Leeds star who’s taken his game to the next level after departing Elland Road in the summer.
The former Leeds ace who’s now similar to a £50m star
Midfielder Glen Kamara joined Leeds in a £5.5m deal from Scottish side Rangers back in the summer of 2023, looking to add quality in the middle of the park in the first campaign back in England’s second-tier.
It’s safe to say that the Finnish international did just that during the 2023/24 campaign, featuring 40 times in the Championship last season, often starting alongside Ethan Ampadu at the heart of the side.
However, it would be his only year in Yorkshire, departing for French side Rennes, with the opportunity to feature in a top European league evidently too good to turn down.
The 29-year-old departed in a £8.5m deal, banking the club a £3m profit – allowing them to sign Tanaka who’s so far been an excellent replacement for the departed star.
Despite this, Kamara has impressed in Ligue 1 since his move, so much so that he’s been categorised as a similar player to Manchester United’s £50m signing Manuel Ugarte by FBref.
It’s a huge comparison given the sizeable transfer fee, but when delving into their respective stats from the ongoing campaign, the former Leeds has matched or bettered the Uruguayan in numerous key areas.
The former Leeds star has averaged more passes per 90, with more of his attempts progressive, demonstrating he has the ability to play the ball into forward areas more than the United talent.

Undoubtedly, Tanaka has been a stellar addition, and one that could play a huge role in Farke’s promotion ambitions come May.
However, Kamara – who was previously dubbed a “monster” by Steven Gerrard – has demonstrated numerous key qualities that would’ve massively aided their chances, leaving the idea of what could’ve been had they kept hold of the Rennes ace.

Bangladesh crumbled to spin again and barely batted for an hour on the fourth morning

When the result of this Test series will be read about years later, it will say South Africa 2, Bangladesh 0. Many would take it as a usual occurrence since Bangladesh have usually been below-par in Tests in South Africa. However, this time around, the hosts were without their frontline bowling attack, and had lost the preceding ODI series to Bangladesh for the first time at home. Keshav Maharaj, though, made sure the IPL stars were not missed as he helped South Africa demolish the visitors by 332 runs in the second Test in Gqeberha and complete a clean sweep.Khaled fined for flinging ball at Verreynne
Khaled Ahmed has been fined 15% of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC’s code of conduct during the second day of the Gqeberha Test, when, in the 95th over of South Africa’s first innings, Kyle Verreynne hit the ball back towards Ahmed, the bowler, and he flung it towards the batter in “an inappropriate and dangerous manner, hitting him on the right glove”. In addition to the fine, one demerit point has been added to Ahmed’s disciplinary record. It was his first offence in a 24-month period.
Maharaj took 7 for 40 in the fourth innings to skittle Bangladesh for a meagre 80, thus becoming the first bowler in Test history to take seven-wicket hauls in consecutive fourth innings. He had returned figures of 7 for 32 when Bangladesh were rolled over for 53 in the fourth innings of the first Test, in Durban. In the process, Maharaj also completed 150 wickets in Test cricket. Simon Harmer took three wickets in this innings, as he did in the fourth innings of the previous Test, as South Africa once again embarrassed Bangladesh by just using two bowlers.Chasing 413, Bangladesh started the fourth morning on 27 for 3 and they would have hoped that there would not be a repeat of the Durban collapse. But the Bangladesh batters wilted under pressure.Related

Mushfiqur Rahim was the first to depart, edging Maharaj to Dean Elgar at slips in the second over of the day. Mominul Haque followed in Maharaj’s next over, top-edging a sweep that he couldn’t quite reach, with Ryan Rickelton completing an easy catch at square leg. Yasir Ali then top-edged Harmer in his attempted slog sweep, giving Lizaad Williams, the only fielder on the leg-side boundary, an easy catch. By the fifth over of the morning, Bangladesh had slipped to 44 for 6.Litton Das struck five fours in his 27 off 33 balls before Maharaj lured him out of the crease. Litton missed the ball by a foot and Kyle Verreynne completed an easy stumping. Maharaj then had Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught behind and Khaled Ahmed lbw, before Harmer ended Bangladesh’s misery. The day had started with South Africa making international cricket’s first two Covid substitutions after Sarel Erwee and Wiaan Mulder tested positive and were replaced by Khaya Zondo, who got a Test debut, and Glenton Stuurman.
Tottenham Hotspur are a team who have generally had mixed luck when it comes to making signings.
It feels like for every Micky van de Ven and Dejan Kulusevski they’ve signed over the years, they’ve balanced it out with an Emerson Royal or Bryan Gil.
However, one thing the club have become experts at is selling players, be that the mega-money deals Daniel Levy has become known for, like Gareth Bale and Harry Kane, or the smaller-scale, but still impressive sales of players like Steven Bergwijn or Juan Foyth.
In fact, they did it again this summer when they sold a player former manager Mauricio Pochettino was a big fan of for a surprisingly hefty sum.
Spurs' summer sales
Before we get to the player in question, it’s worth looking at a couple of Spurs’ other sales this summer, starting with Royal.
Emerson Royal for Tottenham
Yes, the Brazilian full-back, who had become something of a scapegoat in North London, was finally sold this summer, and to the surprise of many, it was Italian giants AC Milan that came in for him, agreeing to pay around £13m for the 25-year-old’s services.
Unfortunately, and perhaps unsurprisingly to many a Spurs fan, things have not worked out for the Brazilian at the San Siro, and as things stand, he’s made 19 appearances, 15 of which have been starts, in which he’s failed to score or provide an assist.
Leeds United's loan defender Joe Rodon.
A player who’s been more successful away from North London this season has been Welsh centre-back Joe Rodon, who joined Leeds United for around £10m, although his transfer was really a part of the deal that saw Archie Gray go the other way.
So far this season, the 27-year-old has made 22 appearances for the Peacocks, scoring one goal and undoubtedly being one of the team’s most important players.
Joe Rodon
However, while both of these sales represent great business for Spurs, they made another, arguably even better sale over the summer.
The Spurs player Poch loved
So, to get straight to the point, the player we are talking about is none other than midfield gem Oliver Skipp.
At one point in time, the academy product looked set for a bright future at Spurs, with Pochettino describing him as “a top player and a top kid” following his first-team debut in 2018, while his next manager, José Mourinho, described him as “phenomenal.”
However, as the years progressed, particularly under Ange Postecoglou, it was clear that the young Englishman no longer had a clear path to regular first-team football.
So, during the summer, the club made the somewhat unpopular decision to sell the academy graduate to newly promoted Leicester City for a fee in excess of £20m.
Now, there was an expectation among some fans that the promising midfielder would develop into such a player that the price paid by the Foxes would eventually look comically small, but as things stand, that seems fairly unlikely.

In all competitions, the Welwyn Garden City-born gem has made just 13 appearances, totalling 798 minutes, and has only been on the winning side in two league games and two League Cup games.
Ultimately, there is plenty of time for the former Spurs ace to find his feet in Leicester and show the rest of the country just how good he can be, but as things stand, Levy and Co appear to have struck gold selling him for the price they did.

Mumbai challenge could prove tricky since Rohit’s side have very little to lose
S Sudarshanan16-May-20222:35
Should Rohit experiment with batting down the order?
Big pictureOkay, let’s get this straight. Bowling isn’t really Sunrisers Hyderabad’s major worry. Yes, they have conceded runs at an economy rate of 8.74, which is the second-most. But it is not too much if you see that the best team has an economy rate of 8.09.That Sunrisers are still in contention for the playoffs – after five straight losses following five straight wins – is purely down to their batting from Nos. 3 to 6. Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran have been the key players at those positions and Sunrisers average 35.5 per dismissal for those spots combined, the best among the teams in IPL 2022.Kane Williamson’s run at the top of the order has been quite a forgettable one; his batting average of 18.9 this season is only better than Rohit Sharma’s 18.2 among captains. Moreover, his strike rate of 92.9 is the fifth-worst by any player to have batted in ten innings in an IPL season. With Abhishek Sharma being the leading run-getter for Sunrisers this season, it is perhaps time for Williamson to move down the order with either Glenn Phillips, who can bat anywhere in the top five, or Tripathi to take his spot at the top in order to maximise the powerplay. After all, Sunrisers have to win both their remaining matches in order to keep their hopes of a top-four finish alive.LIVE in the USA

For Mumbai Indians, though, it is all about continuing to check out how their players do at different spots with an eye on the next season, something they have already started. Very little of Tristan Stubbs could be seen against Chennai Super Kings and they could continue to back him in the middle order, while young Tilak Varma continues to impress. Glasgow Rangers now find themselves 12 points behind the Premiership leaders and their title challenge is effectively over before the Light Blues enter 2025.
The pressure looked like it was beginning to ease on Philippe Clement after some decent showings in the top flight, but the 2-1 defeat to St Mirren on Boxing Day could make his position untenable.
Giovanni Van Bronckhorst was sacked after slipping nine points behind Celtic in November, while Michael Beale was given the boot after his side trailed the leaders by seven points at the end of October 2023.
Former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
The question is, why hasn’t Clement been given his marching orders, despite being 12 points off the pace?
It doesn’t look like the Ibrox side will be winning the league title anytime soon and while Clement has certainly been at fault for the performances on show this term, can the downturn in results and performances be traced back to Beale?
The Englishman was given a large budget during the summer of 2023, yet he failed to add any true quality to the squad, with the club having to make cutbacks due to this lavish spending.
Michael Beale’s transfer record at Rangers
Steven Gerrard’s former assistant was appointed in December 2022 after the sacking of Van Bronckhorst, but he failed to lead the Gers to any trophies during his ten months in charge.
The signings of Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin in January 2023 were looked upon as solid investments. Fast-forward a few months, however, and plenty of money was spent during the summer window.

Cyriel Dessers was signed for around £4.5m, while Sam Lammers – who had scored just five goals in the previous three seasons – arrived at Ibrox for a fee in the region of £3m.
Dessers is still at the club, but has failed to endear himself to the supporters, while the Dutchman lasted just six months before being sent out on loan. He joined Twente permanently in the summer.
It wasn’t just the incomings that Beale struggled to get right, as some players departed who really should have remained at the club.
Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent both left for nothing by running their contracts down, as Beale didn’t see a future for either of them in his team heading into the 2023/24 campaign.
Alfredo Morelos
Elsewhere, the manager sold Fashion Sakala and Antonio Colak, who had combined to score 30 goals between them during the 2022/23 season.
One piece of transfer business actually landed the Gers a massive profit, as Glen Kamara left Rangers after four and a half years to join Leeds United before the window closed.
How much Rangers paid to sign Glen Kamara
Midway through Gerrard’s debut season in charge of the Glasgow side, he was keen to further bolster his squad when the winter window opened.
Jermain Defoe arrived on an 18-month loan deal, while American midfielder Matt Polster linked up with the club, but it was the signing of Kamara which got the supporters talking.
At the start of the month, the Dundee star signed a pre-contract deal with the Gers, but with Gerrard seeking to add more reinforcements, a fee of just £50k was paid to bring him in midway through the season.
Hailed as a “monster” by the manager, Kamara turned into one of the finest pieces of transfer business conducted by the Ibrox outfit, especially with his impact on the field.
Market Movers
Football FanCast's Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club's star player or biggest flop worth today?
Kamara stated that he was “shocked” the Gers were watching him before his signing, but the move didn’t turn out too badly in the end. That’s a certainty.
Glen Kamara’s Rangers statistics
The Finnish gem didn’t take long to settle into the heart of the midfield, missing just three games during the second half of the season, before playing a total of 39 times the following campaign, which was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic.
During 2020/21, Rangers would win their first league title in a decade and Kamara was the beating heart of the team. He played 33 games as the club went unbeaten, with the former Arsenal starlet averaging a 91% pass success rate along with winning 59% of his total duels in the top flight.
It was evident that the team performed better with the player in the starting XI. He won the Scottish Cup the following season while scoring in the Europa League semi-final second leg against RB Leipzig, which helped secure a place in the showpiece.
His final season saw him slip down the pecking order, making just 18 starts in all competitions, and it became clear that Beale didn’t quite see a future for the player in his side.
Rangers hit the jackpot by selling Glen Kamara
With the 2023 summer transfer window approaching the final few days, Leeds United came in to make a late swoop for the midfielder, with an offer of £5.5m accepted by Beale.
On the surface, a stunning profit was made on the player, especially considering he cost only £50k four years previously.
Former Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara.
Losing Kamara, however, despite his struggles the season before, meant that Beale lost a respected member of the club, and he couldn’t find a replacement in time.
The former Ibrox midfielder ended up making 42 appearances for Leeds United as they narrowly missed out on a return to the Premier League, ensuring another season in the second tier.
After a single season in Yorkshire, Kamara joined Stade Rennes in France ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, seeking out a change of scenery.
The move has worked out well, with the Finnish gem taking to Ligue 1 football with ease. While his departure meant the Light Blues secured a solid profit, many supporters would have liked to have seen the 29-year-old get a chance under Beale in the starting XI.

BOM INÍCIO DO GRÊMIO
