Everton are believed to be planning to hijack another team's deal to sign a "phenomenal" Premier League player, according to an update from renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Everton transfer news
It could be a surprise if the Blues didn't conduct any transfer business during the January window, with Sean Dyche no doubt keen on acquiring the services of fresh faces, in order to grow his squad. Granted, Everton's finances aren't necessarily too healthy at the moment, but the hope is that some signings are brought in, in order to further stave off the threat of relegation this season.
They certainly haven't been without potential suitors in recent weeks, with plenty of players linked with moves to Goodison Park, including young Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto, who has been a long-time target. Meanwhile, Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland has also emerged as a possible option for the Blues, as he enjoys a strong campaign in the Scottish Premiership.
There is still plenty of time for Everton to bring in new faces, considering the window only got underway at the beginning of the week, but it looks as though they could be ready to make their first addition imminently, according to a fresh update that has emerged.
Everton plan Hannibal Mejbri hijack
Taking to X on Saturday evening, Romano claimed that Everton are looking to swoop in and sign Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri from under the noses of Sevilla.
Hannibal Mejbri
"EXCL: Everton are trying to hijack Sevilla loan move for Hannibal Mejbri as contacts are taking place today. Hannibal picked Sevilla over Freiburg and OL — still in talks with Man United, nothing done… but Everton are now also showing interest. Up to Hannibal now."
This is an exciting update, partly because of the hijack element of it, but Hannibal is also a young player with lots of potential – one who has arguably been one of the few positives on show at United of late.
Admittedly, the 20-year-old has only featured sporadically so far this season, starting once and appearing only five times in the Premier League, but he plays with real tenacity and always gives his all when he is introduced. This was highlighted by former Birmingham City manager John Eustace, who said of him during the midfielder's loan spell there last season:
"The way he has played in the last couple of games has been phenomenal. He has broken records for total distance [covered], all that kind of stuff."
Hannibal could give Everton that extra bit of depth and quality between now and the end of the campaign, allowing Dyche to shuffle his pack and keep players fresh, and United may feel that him staying in the Premier League instead of joining Sevilla on loan could be better for his development.

The rivalry between Dhoni’s three-time champions and Kohli’s men has always been a fiery one, and the perfect match-up to start IPL 2019 off with
The Preview by Shashank Kishore22-Mar-20198:43
Lungi Ngidi’s absence might hurt Chennai Super Kings – Brad Hodge
Big PictureUnless you’re totally invested in the IPL – or any league for that matter – it can at times be hard to remember games that have finished even as recently as 48 hours ago. But in a hectic calendar and the usual haze of fours and sixes, this giant of a rivalry stands out: Chennai Super Kings v Royal Challengers Bangalore.Numbers-wise, there’s no reason to believe this is a rivalry at all. Super Kings are three-time winners, Royal Challengers are three-time chokers in the final. Royal Challengers have lost six out of their seven games at MA Chidambaram Stadium, including two cup finals – IPL 2011 and the Champions League T20 later that year. And Royal Challengers haven’t beaten Dhoni’s men since 2014; even discounting Super Kings’ two-year absence, that’s a long time. What’s the big fuss then? Try asking fans from both sides who they wouldn’t want to lose to. And don’t be swayed by what Mumbai Indians say.A number of these losses have come from winning positions. Remember Albie Morkel smashing Virat Kohli for 28 off the first six balls he faced to clinch a winner? Or RP Singh’s epic no-ball that had Ravindra Jadeja pick out third man only to win a thriller and trigger the ‘Sir Jadeja’ memes? Remember Dhoni’s monstrous takedown of Royal Challengers’ death-bowling in a high-scoring last-over thriller last year? These are likely to be a handful of games producers will slot in while programming episodes of IPL classics.Twelve thousand fans turned up for Super Kings’ training recently. Most of them, and many others, will be there before the first ball is bowled come Saturday. The opening ceremony has been done away with, but the tournament couldn’t have asked for a better opener.PTI
In the newsHe pulled out of the Karachi leg of the PSL to manage his back niggle, but AB de Villiers is on track to play the opener. Royal Challengers’ New Zealand duo of Colin de Grandhomme and Tim Southee have just arrived on match-eve, having finished a hectic international home summer. Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile are in the UAE for a series against Pakistan.Super Kings’ Mitchell Santner, who missed the previous season, will also have had little acclimatisation time, having just joined the squad following the last round of the Plunket Shield matches in New Zealand.Previous meetingPune, 2018: Jadeja took out Kohli first ball. Harbhajan Singh took out de Villiers first ball. Super Kings finished off Royal Challengers for 127 and at the end of it all, MS Dhoni just smiled. He wielded a slow pitch like a magic wand, turning a docile bowling attack – economy rate of 9.19 – into a mythical match-winning entity.Likely XIsChennai Super Kings: 1 Shane Watson, 2 Faf du Plessis, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Ambati Rayudu, 5 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 6 Kedar Jadhav, 7 Dwayne Bravo, 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Deepak Chahar, 10 David Willey, 11 Mohit SharmaRoyal Challengers Bangalore: 1 Parthiv Patel (wk), 2 Moeen Ali, 3 Virat Kohli (capt), 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Shimron Hetmyer, 6 Shivam Dube, 7 Washington Sundar, 8 Tim Southee, 9 Umesh Yadav, 10 Mohammad Siraj, 11 Yuzvendra ChahalStrategy punt Last season, Umesh Yadav was the best bowler in the Powerplays with 14 wickets – the most in this period – with an economy rate of just 6.70. So there is perhaps a case for Kohli to use him upfront and utilise Tim Southee’s experience at the death. They also need a seasoned campaigner there, considering their death overs were by far the worst – they went for 11.90 in the last six – among all franchises. Shimron Hetmyer’s explosive game may well give Royal Challengers a batting identity beyond de Villiers and Kohli, but he doesn’t start well against spin, as a dot-ball percentage of 44.3 and strike rate of 126 suggest. Super Kings could look to exploit this weakness by utilising Jadeja, Jadhav, Santner, if he plays, or even Raina’s part-time spin to counter this.Stats that matter Kohli’s 732 runs are the most by a batsman against Super Kings in the IPL. He also has the most number of 30-plus scores (12) against them. Similarly, his counterpart Dhoni’s 710 runs are the most by a batsman against Royal Challengers in the IPL. The only Super Kings bowler to have dismissed de Villiers more than once in the current squad is Imran Tahir. Will he make the XI, though? He has retired from internationals, and even as his countrymen have struggled in limited-overs cricket over the last 12 months, Shane Watson has grown from strength to strength. He comes into the tournament having finished the PSL as the highest run-scorer (430 runs in 12 innings). He didn’t do too badly in the Big Bash League in December-January either, finishing among the top-ten run-getters.

Australia’s women players have been caught in the middle of a tussle between the two boards stemming from tensions over scheduling

Conflict between Cricket Australia and the BCCI has left Australia’s female players confused and fuming about their absence from the list of players taking part in the IPL exhibition series due to take place in India next month. The announcement from the BCCI on Thursday that no Australians would be taking part in the exhibition tournament, a year after Meg Lanning, Alyssa Healy, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt and Beth Mooney all featured in the inaugural match, arrived with players still unsure about whether or not they would be travelling to India for the event.ESPNcricinfo understands that the decision not to include Australian women in the tournament is part of a wider disagreement between the two boards that also featured the BCCI’s insistence on CA honouring a touring commitment to play men’s ODIs in India in January next year, leaving Australian broadcasters angry about an absence of one day cricket on the home calendar while also taking the nation’s best players overseas in the midst of the Big Bash League.CA is believed to have been non-committal about the availability of women’s players for the IPL exhibition for some months, alongside negotiations about the men’s ODI series. However, as the world’s most powerful board put its foot down over the men’s ODI series, the CA chief executive Kevin Roberts broke from annual leave to travel to India for last-minute negotiations about the women’s IPL tournament – talks that now appear to have come to nought.”CA has never said the players will be unavailable. We have been working with the BCCI on this and assisted them with activating the visa process earlier in the week,” a CA spokesperson said. “We confirmed yesterday that the players would be released and able to participate in the tournament that commences on 6 May.”There was no indication at that time that there were any problems with this and the BCCI were grateful for the support of the women’s IPL. As was the case last year we are very supportive of the Women’s IPL and look forward to seeing some great games ahead of the Women’s Ashes.”The Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) indicated on Friday that the three players slated to take part – Lanning, Healy and Perry – were still eager to do so if an agreement can be reached between CA and the BCCI.”The Women’s T20 Challenge in India is a good opportunity to grow and develop the global interest in women’s cricket,” an ACA spokesperson said. “In speaking with the players we know they have been preparing to go and are still keen to play. To have no Australian players in the tournament would be an opportunity missed.”Last year’s first exhibition match was not without its troubles, with some disquiet about the nature of the contracts offered to the players to take part, including their terms and conditions. This year CA had been working to negotiate contracts collectively on behalf of their players, before the breakdown in talks that has led to their absence from playing lists named by the IPL.Australia are the reigning T20 World Cup champions after winning the global tournament in the Caribbean late last year, with Lanning, Perry and Healy arguably the world’s best players. CA’s development of the WBBL has been unashamed in its focus to be the world’s biggest women’s event, taking the place that the IPL occupies for the men’s game.

Entenda o Caso do “VAR Descalibrado”
> Confira a tabela do Campeonato Carioca

Glasgow Rangers enjoyed a week-long mid-season training camp in the Spanish sunshine, yet it culminated in a 1-0 defeat to Hertha Berlin over the last weekend.
It was a friendly match and not too much should be read into it. However, the performance was below par and Philippe Clement will be hoping the team can improve as they face FC Copenhagen this evening at Ibrox in their final match before the domestic season returns.
The onus for Clement now is to spend the next two weeks seeking to improve his squad during the current January transfer window.
Glasgow Rangers managerPhilippe Clement.
Several positions require some improvement, especially with six players out of contract come the end of the season.
With Ryan Jack and John Lundstram among those six, could the Belgian coach perhaps look to bring in another central midfielder this month?
Rangers’ search for another midfielder
Much has been made of the Light Blues’ search for a new left-back and striker, yet there have been a few midfielders linked in the last couple of weeks.
According to Football Scotland last week, the Gers have reportedly ‘checked on the conditions’ of Croatian gem Marko Bulat, who is currently playing for Dinamo Zagreb in his homeland.
Marko Bulat
The report goes on to state that Nils Koppen has sent scouts to watch Bulat in action for Zagreb recently as the Gers look to potentially make a move for the player.
There remains one stumbling block, however; the transfer fee. Zagreb value one of their prized assets at around £5m and this could prove to be too much for the Ibrox side to spend, especially in January.
Clement needs to be planning ahead due to the contract situations surrounding a couple of his midfielders, however, and this may mean he has to act sooner rather than later.

Kemar Roofe, Jon McLaughlin, Borna Barisic, Leon Balogun, Jack and Lundstram are all free to speak to other clubs as of this month ahead of leaving for free this summer, and the majority of them will likely depart Ibrox.
The latter two are perhaps the players who deserve extensions, in particular Lundstram, who has shone under Clement this season.

The former Sheffield United midfielder has started 17 of the 18 competitive matches under the Belgian and will remain a mainstay in the team until the end of the season at least.
If these two do leave Ibrox, Clement has the likes of Jose Cifuentes, Nico Raskin and even youngster Bailey Rice to call upon ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, but it could be Raskin who is ready to become a key player under the manager.
What the future holds for Nico Raskin at Rangers
The young midfielder made a solid impact upon arriving in Glasgow last January as he finished the season ranked third for tackles per game (1.8) and sixth for successful dribbles per game (0.9) as he demonstrated his tenacious nature and his ability to push forward often from the engine room.
This gave him a solid platform to work on ahead of the current season, yet an injury suffered against Hearts in what was Clement’s third match in charge of the club ruled the 22-year-old out for 14 matches and severely disrupted any progress he had made during the embryonic stages of the season.
Nico Raskin
Despite the setback, Raskin currently leads the way among the squad with regard to tackles per game (2.7) in the top flight, along with ranking seventh for accurate passes per game (39.4) which indicates how impressive he was prior to the injury.
What he needs now is a long-term partner in the heart of the midfield who could help elevate his game to new levels.
Signing Bulat from Zagreb could be an ideal player to partner Raskin with ahead of next season and their respective styles of play could compliment each other rather well.
How Marko Bulat would fit into the Rangers side
Like Raskin, Bulat tends to operate slightly deeper in the midfield, yet he can still offer a reliable attacking threat when required, evidenced by the fact he has scored five goals and grabbed three assists across 23 matches for his club this season.
Indeed, the 5 foot 10 midfielder currently ranks fourth among the Zagreb squad in the top flight for goals and assists (five) along with ranking fourth for shots on target per game (one) and sixth for key passes per game (1.3), which suggests he is productive in the final third for his team.

Rangers Journal founder Kai Watson profiled the young sensation amid rumours linking him with a move to Glasgow recently, even comparing him to a young Ivan Rakitic, saying:
“From watching Bulat and looking at the numbers, he reminds me of a young Ivan Rakitić. He’s a box-to-box midfielder who is a very capable defender and a goal-scoring threat. Technically gifted and intelligent in and out of possession, hence the Rakitić comparison.”
This type of skillset could work wonders alongside someone like Raskin, who would be free to do the dirty work in the heart of the pitch and clean up in front of the defence, allowing Balut to utilise his box-to-box abilities and create chances for others.
It could end up being a frightening partnership, especially as the duo are both only 22 years of age, and they could be the future of the Gers midfield, without a shadow of a doubt.
Raskin will only get better the more he plays under Clement and with Jack and Lundstram potentially moving on this summer, there is a slot available alongside the former Standard Liege starlet, which Balut would slot into with ease.
If the Gers don’t make a move for him this month, they had better hope his performances don’t improve, otherwise they could face some stiff competition from plenty of other teams looking to secure his signature.
Much will depend on what funds Clement has to spend in the summer transfer window, yet with the wage bill set to be freed up by a sizeable chunk due to some departures, signing Balut should be his main focus.
Wilfried Gnonto only joined Leeds from Swiss outfit FC Zurich in the summer of 2022, but his future has been uncertain since the Whites were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season.
Everton, who edged out Leeds in the fight for survival, made three bids to sign him, the last of which was worth £25.7m, but Daniel Farke's side held firm in their £30m valuation and the Toffees refused to meet it. While all of this was going on, Gnonto submitted a transfer request and withdrew himself from contention, but after he was denied a move, he rebuilt the bridge by apologising to Farke.
The Italian has had to be content with a bit-part role at Elland Road this season, starting only a quarter of Leeds' 28 Championship games up to this point. Heading into the New Year, then, there seemed to be a strong chance that he would push for a move again.
Leeds, for their part, have been hopeful of tying him down to a new contract if the player is receptive, and there's now been some positive movement on that front.
Leeds close to Gnonto breakthrough
According to The Athletic's Phil Hay, Gnonto could now sign a new deal at Elland Road. Leeds are "looking to finalise" an agreement with the forward after some productive negotiations, even though his previous contract still has three and a half years to run.
In an attached story for The Athletic, Hay adds that a deal is close, and so one of the big success stories of the January window could be an in-house breakthrough rather than an external transfer.
Leeds right to show patience with Golden Boy nominee Gnonto
This should be seen as a big boost for Leeds, because Gnonto remains a top long-term prospect. Indeed, we shouldn't forget, in the midst of the recent drama, that he's only 20 years old. Gnonto showed flashed of huge promise during his first season at Elland Road, scoring four goals and providing four assists. Most notably, he opened the scoring in a 2-2 draw at Manchester United within the first minute, becoming the youngest overseas player to score a Premier League goal at Old Trafford.
While his tally of one goal and one assist looks underwhelming, it's hard to be too critical of him given the distractions he's faced as a young player, his shortage of gametime and the consequent lack of rhythm.
Gnonto has also underlined his potential at the international level by not only scoring five in five for Italy's under-21s, but also amassing 13 caps for the senior side and becoming their youngest-ever goalscorer in a defeat to Germany in 2022.
His exploits that year, where he also scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 36 games for Zurich, earned him a place in the final 20 for the Golden Boy award, given to the best under-21 in top-flight European football. That shortlist also featured the likes of Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala and Pedri.
Gnonto, then, could still prove to be a huge bargain at just £3.8m as he prepares to commit his long-term future to Leeds.
