Fabrizio Romano Drops Intriguing Leeds Manager Claim

Leeds United will be looking to bring in a young manager over the summer with Sam Allardyce expected to depart regardless of their fate.

Will Allardyce be made permanent at Leeds?

Andrea Radrizzani has experienced yet another difficult season at the top of Leeds with back-to-back relegation-battling seasons under his belt.

The Whites are now locked into the bottom three of the table on the back of the results over the weekend with Everton pulling two points clear of the drop.

Three games remain in their campaign but there are still some mightily tough games ahead of them as Leicester City narrowly sits above Leeds on goal difference.

Javi Gracia's time at Elland Road was short-lived with Sam Allardyce coming through the doors to replace him with just four games to go.

The 68-year-old's spell at Leeds could not have gotten off to a trickier start as they travelled to the reigning champions, however, they did put up a good fight.

However, speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed Leeds will be looking to move on from Allardyce for a young manager over the summer:

(22:00) "We have to wait until the end of the season. At the end of the season, they will qualify, for example, Leeds I know for sure they're looking for different manager, a young manager for the future. They had some names in mind, but these managers are not coming now in April or May.

"So I don't see Sam Allardyce staying but I think they will do something different in any case."

Could Allardyce be the right man for Leeds?

There are three huge games lying ahead of the former England manager at Leeds and they are three games which will seriously test the Yorkshire club.

Everton's win on Monday has seriously piled the pressure on but Leeds will have been well aware that the trip to Manchester City was not a game they will have been expecting to take any points.

But now it is a serious uphill task for Leeds, if Allardyce is able to secure their top-flight status, then the mood around the 68-year-old will be incredibly positive.

However, he has been brought in as a short-term fix. And we think the likes of Radrizzani should remember that.

Keeping Leeds afloat now would be a huge achievement, but the vision of the club surely has to be aspiring for more than what they've been handed over the last two seasons.

Looking at Leeds' struggles over the last two years, it feels like they need a long-term manager who can come in and provide the players with a project.

Marcelo Bielsa was able to provide a long-term vision, however, perhaps a young promising manager who could provide similar attributes is the path Leeds should be looking at.

The likes of Vincent Kompany have gone into Burnley and changed the club's philosophy and they have certainly reaped the rewards for doing so.

If Leeds do go down, it will be interesting to see who would be keen to take the reins at Elland Road.

Tottenham: "Phenomenal" Manager Favourite For Spurs Job

Former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is the current "favourite" for the Tottenham Hotspur job as journalist James Nursey shares what he knows.

What's the latest Spurs manager news?

Chairman Daniel Levy has a crucial summer transfer window looming after a topsy-turvy season at Spurs – one which has seen the departures of both manager Antonio Conte and sporting director Fabio Paratici.

Both crucial figureheads just six months ago, Tottenham now have to consider replacing the Italian duo ahead of what will be a very interesting 2023/2024 Premier League campaign.

In the meantime, interim boss Ryan Mason is tasked with finishing this season as strongly as possible, with Europa League qualification still firmly on the table.

Levy, according to recent reports, has already completed the due-diligence stage of his managerial search and is set to step up talks with candidates.

His list of contenders to replace Conte includes Nagelsmann, former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique, Sporting Lisbon's Ruben Amorim and even Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso (The Evening Standard).

Ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann.

Nagelsmann, who was recently subject to a shock dismissal by Bayern, stands out as a very enticing option given his free agent status and glowing reputation.

Reporter Nursey, writing in an article for The Mirror, has an update on Spurs' links to the 35-year-old – claiming that he is the "favourite" as things stand.

Indeed, Nagelsmann is seemingly in pole position to succeed Conte right now, with the report also stating that he is "interested in the role".

Spurs are apparently set for further talks with Nagelsmann, but Levy is said to be on the hunt for Paratici's replacement as well – a task which may well be brought to the forefront.

What could Nagelsmann bring to Spurs?

As well as being called a "phenomenal" tactical innovator by sections of the press, RB Leipzig's ex-coach has received glowing endorsements from some of world football's most elite managers.

Speaking all the way back in 2017, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp tipped Nagelsmann to be a success during his Hoffenheim days, claiming he is a big, big coaching talent.

He said this to national media before the Reds' Champions League group stage clashes with Hoffenheim that season:

"I’m really happy for my friend and agent because I’m the old horse in the stable and there’s a young horse already!”

“He’s a big, big coaching talent. We don’t know each other very well but I’ve followed his way because I like good football.

“He’s not the only one but he’s a good example of a lot of really good young managers in Germany."

"World-class" Star "Intrigued" Amid Aston Villa Rumour

Aston Villa transfer target Ferran Torres is interested by the prospect of returning to the Premier League, but it is too early to predict where he could end up this window, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed.

What's going on with Ferran Torres?

The Barcelona attacker could be sold by the club as they attempt to raise funds to sign Lionel Messi, and the former Manchester City star is weighing up his options.

Aston Villa have been strongly linked, and with director Mateu Alemany joining the club, Villa Park could be an obvious destination for the 23-year-old. Alemany has worked with Torres at both Valencia and Barcelona, and if Unai Emery's side qualify for Europe, they could be an attractive destination.

Speaking to Football FanCast, Jacobs claimed that whilst it is too early to predict where he could end up, he may be interested in a return to England with Villa.

"I think that with Ferran Torres, there's been links with Villa. I know that Ferran Torres has also spoken about a Valencia return as well. The player is intrigued, I'm told, by the Premier League," he stated.

"It's one of those deals that it's probably too early in before the transfer window to be absolutely clear on the situation. We know that Barcelona will have outgoings, it's as simple as that. And we know that some of those outgoings could end up in the Premier League."

Where could Ferran Torres end up?

Torres pushing for a Premier League move may be somewhat surprising, given that he initially pushed for a move away from Pep Guardiola's side after struggling to adapt to life in England, despite impressing on the pitch. Indeed, he attacker had a rather impressive record at Manchester City, despite being used sparingly at times, as he managed to score 16 goals and provided four assists in just 43 games, so he has that Premier League experience.

He may be pushed towards the exit door at Barcelona given their financial situation, but it seems unlikely that he could return to Valencia, his childhood club.

Valencia are currently battling for survival in La Liga, and even if they stay up, it is unlikely that they will have the funds to pursue a move for their former player.

Villa could have the necessary funds to negotiate a deal, and Torres could join a club potentially competing in Europe with a familiar director and a Spanish manager.

Torres has been described as "world-class" by his manager Xavi, and would represent a coup for Villa.

If he is put up for sale, there could be plenty of interest in the attacker, but Villa may consider themselves in a good position to make a statement signing.

Zimbabwe seek remedy against stagnation

Although conditions for batting aren’t straightforward in Harare, Zimbabwe need to take the initiative against India’s bowlers if they are to keep the series alive

The Preview by Alagappan Muthu12-Jun-2016Match factsMonday, June 13, 2016
Start time 0900 local (0700 GMT)Big pictureCricket at the Harare Sports Club is often a throwback. The ball swings, almost through the day. The outfield is large enough that mis-hits do not turn a profit for the batsman. And if you want to buy runs, you have to spend time. That Zimbabwe could only put up 168 – a total considerably short of their own expectations, let alone the par score at the ground – was because only four of their XI could last more than half an hour at the crease on Saturday.Another deficiency that needs addressing is their strategy. After 299 balls, Zimbabwe could round up only 82 singles. They did, however, go on a spree looking for dots and found 197 of them. Early morning starts in the winter ensure considerable sideways movement. Why tackle that on your own when you can tag in your partner at the other end? India did that to perfection through KL Rahul (108 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (120 balls), who shared strike almost evenly to record the best second-wicket partnership ever (162 runs) at this ground.Although 50-over cricket does provide batsmen with the luxury of time, it is preferable to avoid stagnation. That way the opposition has to worry about things beyond simply putting the ball on a good length and hitting repeat. Zimbabwe’s think-tank is aware of this, judging from batting coach Lance Klusener’s comments at the post-match press conference: “Had we applied ourselves and maybe got a few partnerships would’ve maybe at least forced them [India] to try and play a little bit differently.” When in his prime, Klusener was the kind of batsman who always looked for runs. Zimbabwe would do well to inculcate that mindset.Form guideZimbabwe: LLWWL (last five matches, most recent first)
India: WWLLLWatch out forIt can’t have been fun for Karun Nair, spending 38 overs in the dressing room with only 7 to his name while his team-mates tucked in. A batsman known for his uncomplicated technique and an appetite for big runs, he would want another chance as opener to erase a forgettable debut.Chamu Chibhabha is Zimbabwe’s leading-run getter since the start of 2015. He was able to survive most of the first hour on Saturday until he was undone by a lovely inswinger from Jasprit Bumrah and walked back with 13 off 42 balls. Zimbabwe would want their opener to set a better pace than that.Team newsThis tour was aimed at determining how strong India’s reserves are, but with only three of the XI getting to bat, the team management may keep Mandeep Singh and Faiz Fazal on the bench a little longer. Left-arm quick Jaydev Unadkat, offspinner Jayant Yadav and allrounder Rishi Dhawan may get a look in considering India should have enough information about Bumrah and Axar Patel.India (probable): 1 Karun Nair, 2 KL Rahul, 3 Ambati Rayudu, 4 Manish Pandey, 5 Kedar Jadhav, 6 MS Dhoni (wk) 7 Axar Patel/ Jayant Yadav/ Rishi Dhawan, 8 Dhawal Kulkarni, 9 Yuzvendra Chahal, 10 Jasprit Bumrah/ Jaydev Unadkat, 11 Barinder SranZimbabwe stacked their team with batsmen up to No. 8 but were not able to make a strong enough total. Perhaps the presence of an experienced batsman like Sean Williams would help change that.Zimbabwe 1 Chamu Chibhabha, 2 Peter Moor, 3 Hamilton Masakadza, 4 Sean Williams/ Vusi Sibanda, 5 Craig Ervine, 6 Richmond Mutumbami (wk), 7 Sikandar Raza, 8 Elton Chigumbura, 9 Graeme Cremer (capt), 10 Tendai Chatara, 11 Taurai MuzarabaniPitch and conditionsThere was appreciable swing in the first hour, and some seam movement even when the ball got old at the Harare Sports Club. Totals in the vicinity of 230-250 should prove competitive. Monday is set to be rather cloudy.Stats and trivia 197 – Dots accumulated by Zimbabwe in the first ODI – joint fifth-most in an ODI against India in the last 10 years Bumrah, with 25 wickets, is India’s most successful bowler in 2016. The next best is R Ashwin with 23 wickets.Quotes”There’s no doubting the talent there. We might just have to feel our way into the next week or so but I am sure we will settle in as soon as we can.”

Wilson, bowlers help England Women take series

Fran Wilson top-scored with 43 in her first international appearance in more than five years to help England Women overcome Pakistan’s spin challenge to secure a 35-run win and seal the series

Fran Wilson top-scored in her first international appearance in more than five years, while Amy Jones once again restated her qualities as Sarah Taylor’s replacement behind the stumps, as England’s women were forced to battle hard for the ascendancy before sealing a comfortable 35-run victory in the second T20 against Pakistan at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. In the end, England’s depth proved the difference, as Pakistan’s middle- and lower-order faded after a spirited start to their pursuit of 139. They lost their last four wickets for 19 runs in 36 balls, with Jenny Gunn, England’s veteran allrounder, returning the ultra-parsimonious figures of 2 for 7 in four overs of wicket-to-wicket medium pace. However, after the power-hitting exploits that had marked England’s victories in the first four matches of the tour, their performance on Tuesday was a timely reminder of the fragilities that still exist in a line-up that has been significantly remodelled since their disappointing World T20 campaign in March. After winning the toss, Heather Knight chose to bat first on a flat surface with tantalisingly short boundaries – apparently the rope was brought in to the minimum 55 metre-mark at the behest of England’s coach, Mark Robinson. However, the captain herself struck the only six of the innings as Pakistan responded to the challenge by bringing their spinners to the fore – all four of them, whose tidy and threatening lines of attack exposed an England batting line-up that had hardly been called upon all summer, due in no small part to the towering success of their opening partnership. The match began, sure enough, with an extension of a formidable record for Lauren Winfield and Tammy Beaumont. The pair had come into the game with 664 runs between them in three ODIs and one T20 to date, including seven sixes and 83 fours at a strike-rate of 110.48. And, when Winfield began her day’s work with three fours from the first four balls of Aiman Anwar’s international career, it seemed the summer’s narrative was set to continue. But then Aiman hit back at the end of her second over, trapping Beaumont lbw for 5 with an inswinging yorker that replays suggested would have missed the stumps. There on, England lost a touch of fluency to their batting. Winfield was badly dropped at extra cover off the bowling of Sadia Yousuf, the left-arm spinner, but then picked out long-off from her very next delivery – Aiman, right in the thick of the action, held a well-judged chance right on the edge of the rope to reduce England to 44 for 2 in the seventh over.Natalie Sciver, England’s hard-hitting allrounder, got off the mark first ball with a cut for two through point, but fireworks proved elusive as she and Knight failed to make the most of their starts – Knight was excellently stumped by Sidra Nawaz as Nida Dar, the offspinner, slid a wide one across her bows, before Sciver fell one over later, caught at long-on as she attempted to up the ante against Yousuf’s left-arm spin.It was left to Wilson to apply some gloss to the latter stages of England’s innings – her 43 nor out from 39 balls featured three fours, including an excellent one-bounce thump for four down the ground from the penultimate ball of the innings as Pakistan’s deep-set field, which had previously challenged the batsmen to clear the rope or settle for the single, was finally pierced by the best shot of the innings. But thanks in part to England’s improved running between the wickets, a total of 138 for 7 always promised to be a touch out of Pakistan’s reach, not least after a frantic first over from Katherine Brunt. Having been run out for 3 in the final over of England’s innings, Brunt’s mood quickly worsened when Sidra Ameen’s first-ball mow was caught by Jones behind the stumps but over-ruled for a front-foot no-ball. Two balls later, however, Ameen was sent on her way for a duck – run out by a direct hit from Danielle Wyatt at point, after a tentative poke from Javeria Khan had been spilled in the gully by Knight.Jones then showcased her class as a wicketkeeper in Sciver’s opening over, as she held her shape to a very wide swipe from Bismah Maroof and clung onto a thick edge to reduce Pakistan to 8 for 2. Javeria hit back with power and placement, taking advantage of the Powerplay with five fours in a 17-ball 23, before Knight induced Jones’ third catch and second dismissal of the innings, another ambitious swipe that led to a backpedalling chance.Pakistan refused to relinquish hope as they carried on going for their strokes, particularly across the line, but aside from one powerful connection for six from Asmavia Iqbal – her 13th in T20s, more than any other Pakistan player – they struggled to keep in touch with a mounting run-rate. Sophie Ecclestone, the 17-year-old left-arm spinner, once again displayed her composure in picking off two late wickets, before Danielle Hazell secured an unassailable 2-0 series lead by having Nida caught in the deep by Brunt with two balls of the innings left unused.

Poch Looking To Axe £55-A-Week Star This Summer

Chelsea are still planning on selling goalkeeper Edouard Mendy at the end of the season, according to a key update from transfer expert Dean Jones.

Is Mendy out of favour at Chelsea?

The Senegalese enjoyed an impressive spell between the sticks upon first arriving at Stamford Bridge, arguably looking like one of the best 'keepers in the world in the process. Going into this season, he felt like the Blues' undisputed first-choice starter in his position, but the 2022/23 campaign hasn't panned out the way he would have hoped.

Mendy's poor form has eventually seen him ousted by Kepa Arrizabalaga, with only nine starts coming his way in the Premier League, and only one appearance in the competition since the turn of the year – against Nottingham Forest earlier this month.

It means that the £55,000-a-week 'keeper's Chelsea future is in serious doubt, and with his current deal expiring in 2025, they may feel that now is a good time to receive a healthy sum of money for his services.

Could Mendy leave Blues this summer?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones admitted that Mendy wants to get a good gauge of his current situation, with Chelsea continuing to look at possible clubs for him to join:

"I think it's good that Mendy has got an outing, but the fact is that Mendy is seeking resolution over his future in the summer. As part of that, they are starting to sound out other clubs to see who might be interested."

Interestingly, this comes after Boehly's decision to try and manouevre a move for Andre Onana as a replacement for Mendy.

Moving Mendy on in the summer transfer window makes complete sense, unless of course Mauricio Pochettino suddenly decides that he wants him to replace Kepa moving forward, and rates him more as a player. As things stand, that appears to be unlikely, however, so Chelsea should cash in and sell the 29-cap Senegal international, also bringing in an upgrade on both him and Kepa at the same time.

The Blues need to bring in an elite stopper who can help take them up a level and marshal the defence, with a world-class player in that area of the pitch so vital, as the likes of Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois have shown down the years.

Mendy is a good goalkeeper on his day – Chris Sutton once lauded him as "incredible" – but he hasn't kicked on at Stamford Bridge and it would now be a big surprise if he was still plying his trade in west London next season.
