Nottm Forest eye up move for Serie A man

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Inter Milan striker Andrea Pinamonti this summer.

The Lowdown: Pinamonti not wanted at Inter

The Italian has been an Inter player since arriving from Genoa in 2020 but he is yet to make any kind of impact there, being loaned out to Empoli last season.

Pinamonti impressed during his time with the Serie A side however, scoring 13 goals in 32 league starts in Florence, and has a valuation of £18million, according to Transfermarkt.

It appears as though Inter are willing to let the 23-year-old leave again this summer, which is where Forest come into the conversation.

The Latest: Forest make contact

According to Corriere dello Sport [via Sport Witness], the Reds are one of the clubs interested in signing Pinamonti, making contact to ‘find out what type of deal would be available and the costs involved in the potential move’.

Atalanta and Sassuolo are also mentioned as possible suitors, and Inter are expected to demand €20m (£16.7m).

The Reds are clearly eyeing attacking reinforcements, having also sent scouts to watch Ludovic Ajorque in action at the weekend.

The Verdict: Another great signing?

Forest are enjoying a fantastic summer transfer window, strengthening all over the pitch, and Pinamonti could be another who makes Steve Cooper’s side a more fearsome proposition.

Praise for his ‘very good’ finishing last season, he has scored 24 goals in Serie A, proving that he can cut it at the top level, and he could battle with the likes of Brennan Johnson and Taiwo Awoniyi for minutes, providing healthy competition.

A loan move like his one to Empoli would arguably be preferable, just in case Pinamonti struggled to adapt to the Premier League, especially if there is a clause in place that could see him sign permanently next summer.

Lozano can be Palace’s ideal Zaha heir

Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for Napoli winger Hirving Lozano recently and the Mexico international could be the ideal man to replace Wilfried Zaha in Patrick Vieira’s side.

Reports have suggested that Palace, along with West Ham, are interested in signing the former PSV Eindhoven man this summer, although it could be tough to prise him away from Napoli as club president Aurelio Di Laurentiis values Lozano at €30m (£25.4m).

While Vieira is currently well-stocked in the attacking department, there is concern that Zaha could still leave, with Chelsea the latest side said to be interested in signing the Ivory Coast international.

The 29-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and Vieira could look to sell him this summer, rather than potentially losing him for nothing at the end of this season.

If he were to leave, then the manager would need a goalscorer to replace him, especially as last season’s second top scorer Conor Gallagher is also unlikely to return to Selhurst Park.

Lozano has shown in his time with PSV and Napoli that he can contribute effectively in attack, contributing 40 goals and 23 assists in just 79 appearances for the Eredivisie side before his move to Italy.

In his time in Naples, the 27-year-old has managed an impressive 43 goals and 31 assists in 149 appearances, so clearly knows where the back of the net is.

Last season saw the Mexican forward, who has “crazy” speed in the words of Gennaro Gatusso,  contribute five goals and five assists in 30 Serie A appearances, and only Gallagher and Zaha would register more goals and assists in the Premier League, so he could definitely add some quality to Vieira’s side.

WhoScored suggests that Lozano’s main strength is his finishing, while he loves to dribble and cut inside, so he could be a natural replacement for Zaha if he leaves, and the Eagles should definitely consider bringing the Napoli man in this summer.

West Brom miss out on Keinan Davis

West Bromwich Albion look set to miss out on yet another transfer target this summer, as Aston Villa’s Keinan Davis closes in on a move to Watford.

What’s the word?

Steve Bruce is clearly keen to add a new striker to his side before the transfer window shuts and Davis had been touted as a potential option for the Baggies, as the forward seeks first-team football away from Villa Park.

The Hawthorns was one possible destination for the 24-year-old, who was not short of suitors after impressing in a loan spell with Nottingham Forest last season, helping them earn promotion to the Premier League.

However, it seems as if Watford have won the race to sign Davis this summer, with the latest reports suggesting that he is on the brink of joining Rob Edwards’ side on loan, with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

Bruce will be gutted

Bruce is clearly desperate to sign a forward following the injury to Daryl Dike, which has left just Karlan Grant and the out-of-favour Kenneth Zohore as the Baggies’ natural options up front.

The Baggies will be hoping for a promotion push after an underwhelming season in the Championship but a lack of squad depth in attack could cost them later in the season, especially if Grant is injured.

Davis showed last season in his spell at Forest that he can be an extremely dangerous option in the second tier, making 17 appearances for Steve Cooper’s side, in which he contributed five goals and two assists, averaging a superb 7.16 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

For context, the top performer in West Brom’s side last season would average a 7.09 rating, while only Grant and Alex Mowatt would outscore Davis across the whole season, which goes to show that the Baggies definitely need more quality in attack.

Forest defender Steve Cook was full of praise for Davis last season, saying:

“Keinan has been outstanding. He’s probably a bit of an unsung hero for us at the moment because he’s doing the hard work. He’s bullying defenders and he’s connecting the play from back to front, without scoring the goals he probably would have liked so far.

“He’s looked such a threat. Keepers have made great saves against the efforts he’s had.”

Therefore, Davis would definitely have been a quality addition to Bruce’s side, and the manager will be gutted that West Brom couldn’t get a deal done with Aston Villa.

West Ham: Irons in ongoing Kiwior transfer talks

West Ham United are in ongoing talks to sign Spezia starlet and Poland international Jakub Kiwior this summer, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Hammers want more…

Despite sealing deals for Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes, Alphonse Areola, Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet and Thilo Kehrer, it has been widely reported that manager David Moyes wants more fresh faces.

A new left-back and midfield option is on the agenda with talks recently breaking down over a move for Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri, meanwhile the Irons have also seen a bid for Club Brugge star Hans Vanaken rejected.

Kiwior, having emerged as an exciting talent in Serie A, is also said to be on West Ham’s agenda.

The Latest: West Ham in Kiwior talks…

The Premier League side, seeking to add a real talent to their ranks, are allegedly in ongoing discussions to sign the Poland ace after his brilliant 2021/2022 season in Italy.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-news-4/” title=”West Ham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

90min claim West Ham are ‘working on a move’ to bring Kiwior to the London Stadium with talks ‘ongoing’ over a deal for the centre-back.

The Verdict: Glowing reputation…

Polish football expert Ryan Hubbard perfectly sums up the 22-year-old’s ability by labelling him a ‘huge talent’, even if he goes on to say that Kiwior isn’t exactly ready to battle for an English top flight starting place.

That being said, he is certainly one for future going off his most recent campaign abroad.

As per WhoScored, Kiwior ended last season as one of Spezia’s top four best-performing players by average match rating and won more tackles per 90 than any of his teammates.

Although young, the combative ace may well be one to keep an eye on and West Ham could be trying to sign a future star.

Everton likely to sign ‘number one target’

Everton are likely to secure the signing of Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz before Thursday’s transfer deadline, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Lowdown: Maupay’s arrival

With Toffees manager Frank Lampard desperate to sign a striker after the departure of Richarlison earlier in the summer, the Blues set to work on a number of possible targets.

After a multitude of bids were made for various forwards, Everton recently completed the signing of Neal Maupay from Premier League rivals Brighton in a deal worth £15m.

The 26-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Merseyside club, with the option of extending this by a further year in 2025.

The Latest: One more striker

Despite the arrival of Maupay at Goodison Park, Everton reportedly remain in the market for another striker. According to 90min, the Toffees are looking to close a deal for Brereton Diaz before the Thursday night deadline.

With talks also progressing for Serhou Guirassy, Talbot has shared his verdict on Everton’s transfer situation.

Speaking with GiveMeSport about the likelihood of the Toffees signing the Rennes striker, the journalist claimed: “Yes, if they can’t get Brereton Diaz. He’s not the best player, but he will certainly be one they’re looking at.

“I don’t think he’s the number one target – I think that’s Brereton Diaz, of Blackburn. I imagine that will get done, which makes a lot of sense.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-7/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Would be a strong signing

Despite a lack of Premier League experience for Brereton Diaz, the Toffees would be adding a proven goalscorer from the English footballing pyramid to their ranks.

In 37 appearances in the Championship last season, the Chile international netted an incredible 22 goals, bringing his overall tally in the second tier to 41 goals in 176 appearances.

At just 23 years of age, the striker would still have plenty of time to adjust to the rigours of the top flight, so sealing a deal for the youngster could be shrewd business for Everton in the long-run.

Therefore, if the Blues are able to get a deal across the line before Thursday’s transfer cut-off, Brereton Diaz could be a brilliant addition to Lampard’s squad, especially given Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury troubles.

Wolves ace Collins praised vs Newcastle

Journalist Josh Bunting has praised the performance of Nathan Collins as Wolves drew 1-1 at home to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The Lowdown: Neves steals the show

Ruben Neves, who captained the home side on the day, stole the show at Molineux this afternoon with a wonderful trademark strike from outside of the box capping off a brilliant individual performance.

Bunting was left in awe of his goal, while he also praised the 25-year-old’s ‘absolutely fabulous’ passing, but unfortunately his team could not hold on as Allan Saint-Maximin scored a fine goal just before injury time to salvage a point for the visitors.

The Latest: Collins also praised

Taking to Twitter, Bunting was also full of praise for the performance of Collins, hailing the Wolves defender’s awareness and positional sense in particular as ‘top quality’.

The journalist gushed: “Nathan Collins is just such a good young defender. His awareness and positional sense are top quality. Dominates his area, nothing has gone past him this afternoon. Just so good at covering the ground and closing the space. Such a solid performance so far.”

The Verdict: Colossal performance

The summer signing from Burnley was simply colossal at the back for Bruno Lage’s team, despite them conceding so late on to deprive them of a first league win of the campaign.

The Irish defender won three of his duels and also recorded eight clearances, two blocks, two interceptions and one tackle, conceding only one foul throughout the 100-minute match (SofaScore).

It seems as if Collins has settled in very well at Molineux, especially given the loan departure of club captain fellow centre-back Conor Coady to Everton, and if the 21-year-old keeps up performances like this, there is no doubt that he will end up justifying his £20.5m price tag.

Leeds now unlikely to sign Che Adams

Leeds United are now unlikely to sign Southampton striker Che Adams this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

The Lowdown: Long-term interest

Recent reports suggest that Jesse Marsch is making a new forward his transfer priority in the final few days of the transfer window, with the likes of Hwang Hee-chan and Ben Brereton Diaz having been linked with a move to Elland Road.

In addition, one name which has consistently cropped up is Che Adams from Premier League rivals Southampton, and the Whites have been pursuing him ever since 2020.

The Saints striker has been rumoured to be on the move to Elland Road again in recent weeks after claims emerged that the south coast club would be willing to cash in on him, but it appears that the reverse is now true.

The Latest: Adams move not imminent

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Thornton shared Leeds’ transfer stance on a potential deal for Adams before the end of the window.

He said: “I think that was one that they were looking at in the past. While obviously there’s still an interest and he’s still the same player that they identified, he’s in-form at the moment with a couple of goals [recently].

“So I think, again, if he was to become available there’s a chance but he’s not a name that I’m being told is imminent for Leeds.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-50/” title=”Latest Leeds United news” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Time to move on

Hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by sports journalist Josh Bunting having scored 78 goals across his senior career, it’s understandable to see why Leeds have pursued Adams for the past two years.

However, Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani have fully backed Marsch this summer by bringing in seven new signings, so you might begin to wonder why a move has never happened for a player in Adams in whom they’ve seemingly held such a long-standing interest.

The Scotland striker has started the new campaign on fire, having netted four times in three outings, and Southampton will surely be keen to keep hold of him.

That could leave the Whites better off pursuing other targets like Wilfried Gnonto, for whom they are believed to be in pole position following the agreement of personal terms.

Crystal Palace have Zaha heir in Rak-Sakyi

Crystal Palace have enjoyed seven years with Wilfried Zaha as the star of the show at Selhurst Park, however, his reign as the face of the team could soon come to an end, and Patrick Vieira will need to prepare for the reality that the player could be gone this time next year.

The impressive forward who has tallied up 435 appearances, 87 goals and 73 assists for the team will be out of contract in June 2023 and the Ivory Coast international will be in a position to speak with foreign clubs about his future come January.

Nevertheless, the powers at Palace are continuing their efforts to retain the player’s services but with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea expressing an interest over the summer, it is very possible that the club will be unable to offer something more tempting to stay.

As a result, Vieira must prepare for the worst outcome and it could actually be a blessing in disguise for Palace as they can now offer the opportunity to a young rising star to prove himself in the forward line.

One player who has been capturing a lot of attention since his loan move to Charlton Athletic is Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, a talented left winger who was captured by the club in 2019 from Chelsea’s infamous youth academy that has recently produced the likes of Declan Rice, Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, Reece James and many more.

The 19-year-old starlet has been dubbed “wonderful” and a “throwback” by Ben Garner, with the Charlton manager in awe of the talent and quality Rak-Sakyi has already displayed:

“His standout attribute is his wonderful balance and ability to change direction. He’s a little bit of a throwback in some ways — you go back to people like George Best who can beat people without moving the ball. Jes can do that.”

Last season the youngster was the top-scorer in the Premier League 2 with 18 goals as well as delivering five assists, and is showing no signs of slowing down as he is already making a great impression in League One with Palace’s south London neighbours and bitter rivals Charlton.

Rak-Sakyi has already scored two goals and completed two assists in six appearances, with a goal contribution every 121 minutes played and there is no doubt that Vieira will be keeping a close eye on the young Palace talent over his season-long loan spell.

After securing a new five-year deal at Crystal Palace before heading on loan in August, if the young attacking threat continues to flourish he will certainly put the Palace boss’ mind at rest in terms of Zaha’s future, as he could be the perfect heir to succeed the 29-year-old in his position.

With that being said, it remains to be seen how well Rak-Sakyi will do on loan and whether he will become a trusted starter next season for the Eagles but the future is certainly looking bright for the youngster who is surely one player that supporters will be keeping tabs on over the season ahead.

West Brom dream of Chris Brunt return

West Bromwich Albion created plenty of players who will go down as cult heroes during their Premier League era.

Of the most prominent names, surrounding the likes of Craig Dawson and Jonas Olsson, the infamous Chris Brunt always comes to mind first.

Signed in 2007 for just £3m, the Northern Irish midfielder went on to feature 421 times for the Baggies.

He also made 153 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday before making the switch to the Hawthorns.

Across this period in the Midlands, he scored a fine 49 times as well as contributing 89 assists. He had a famously wicked left foot and often delivered sensational whipped crosses into the various strikers he combined with.

Tony Mowbray could not have possibly realised how important a signing this would prove to be, as he stayed at the club for 13 years until leaving for Bristol City in 2020.

If he was back in his prime now, he would certainly add bundles of steel and quality to Steve Bruce’s lacklustre midfield. Although Jack Livermore and Jayson Molumby are a solid partnership, they do not possess half the skillset that Brunt did.

The latter only has two goal contributions during his time at the club and has averaged just a 6.62 SofaScore rating this season.

During Brunt’s final season in the Premier League for West Brom, he averaged a 7.15 SofaScore rating as he recorded seven assists.

He managed to balance offence with defence perfectly, as he also averaged 1.4 key passes per game as well as 1.6 tackles and 1.5 clearances.

This was further shown in his stint at left-back, where he outlined his versatility and willingness to adapt for the club he grew so fond of.

Journalist Kieran Doody labelled Brunt a “vastly underrated player” who had been the “perfect ambassador” for the club. He was richly deserving of his testimonial, which was played just last week.

Now a coach for the Baggies, he has completed his cycle of love for the club. He cannot leave, and Bruce would certainly be wishing he could have a fully fit and prime Chris Brunt in his midfield now to help with that promotion push. How they could do with his creativity in a side who have scored just 15 goals all term.

Haaland helping Man City to sign Bellingham

Manchester City sensation Erling Haaland has advised his former Borussia Dortmund team-mate Jude Bellingham to come to the Etihad Stadium, according to reliable journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Lowdown: Bellingham interest

The 19-year-old has been the subject of vast transfer interest in recent years, with myriad speculation this summer as elite clubs across Europe prepare to battle for the teenager’s signature.

Whilst Liverpool and Real Madrid have been touted as the frontrunners in the race, it has also been reported that City are now planning to lodge a club-record bid to bring the England international to the Etihad.

It is believed that any prospective move for Bellingham would take place in the summer of 2023, rather than in January.

The Latest: Jacobs’ claim

Jacobs believes that Haaland is playing a key role in trying to convince Bellingham to join the Sky Blues if he makes the move to the Premier League next summer.

Speaking with GiveMeSport, the reliable journalist claimed: “You’ve got Manchester City, who haven’t yet moved but are very keen on the player and Erling Haaland has directly told Jude Bellingham that it would be a good move for him.

“How much weight we put behind that remains to be seen. There will be other players, for example in the England camp, that have no doubt spoken to Bellingham about their respective clubs as well.

“One player telling another player to come and join isn’t always a big deal. But the fact that they were team-mates and they get on could be a decisive factor as well.”

The Verdict: Huge potential signing

At just 19 years of age, Bellingham has already established himself as one of the most exciting players in world football.

Over a staggering 3,621 minutes played over the past year, when compared with positional peers across Europe, the midfielder ranks in the top 3% for assists, dribbles completed and touches in the attacking penalty area (via FBRef). This shows how he is constantly seeking to make an impact in the final third of the pitch.

Having already been hailed as ‘world class’ by another ex-Dortmund team-mate in Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, Bellingham’s ceiling is arguably unmatched by any other young midfielder in world football.

Therefore, it is easy to see why the biggest clubs from around the world are so keen on securing his services, with City now likely to join the race… possibly with Haaland’s helping hand.
