QPR fans are not fussed about Geoff Cameron picking up a one-match ban

QPR fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they’re not too bothered about Geoff Cameron picking up a one-match suspension, following his fifth yellow card of the campaign. The 55-cap USA international picked up the significant booking in the 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough on Saturday, meaning that he will miss the game against Fulham on the 22nd November following the international break.

Cameron, lining up as part of Mark Warburton’s backline against Boro, made seven clearances, two interceptions and one tackle on a day where a mistake from Nahki Wells cost the R’s all three points.

The former Stoke man’s booking came in the 89th minute, and while you might expect supporters to be annoyed with the news of his suspension, it seems like some QPR supporters on Twitter aren’t too fussed.

One fan said “thank God for that”, whereas another echoed Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous celebration by reacting to the news with a simple “Siuuu”.

Let’s take a look at some more of the Twitter reaction…

Crystal Palace: Aaron Wan-Bissaka 2.0 Matty Cash would help solve problem position

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Sun (print version, 15th November, page 74), Crystal Palace scouts have flocked to the City Ground to watch Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash in action, while Southampton and Everton are also interested.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Eagles are reportedly eyeing up a January swoop for Cash, who has been a revelation at right-back this season after a smart coaching move from Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi.

The 48-year-old decided to convert Cash – who made 30 appearances at right-midfield last season – into a right-back, and the switch has worked wonders.

Cash, 22, has scored two goals and registered two assists in 14 Championship appearances this season, while also recording an impressive tackling rate of 2.8 tackles per game – he also makes 3.5 clearances per game.

You might recall that a certain Aaron Wan-Bissaka made a similar transition from being a right-midfielder into an effective right-back – Cash doesn’t come close to the Manchester United man’s 5.4 tackles per game, although there are certainly similarities in their professional development.

Would help solve a problem position for Palace

After losing Wan-Bissaka back in the summer, the south Londoners never signed a replacement.

Joel Ward was left as the Eagles’ only right-back, leaving that area of Roy Hodgson’s squad looking dangerously thin and definitely a problem position.

It has only become even more of an issue now as Ward recently suffered a groin injury against Chelsea, which will most likely see centre-back Martin Kelly slot in as cover.

In that respect, bringing Cash to Selhurst Park would be a great move from Palace as he appears to be an exciting young player who has also taken to his new role like a duck to water.

Additionally, he would help provide natural depth to what is arguably Hodgson’s biggest problem position – this would definitely be a smart signing for Palace.

West Ham fans weren’t pleased despite Angelo Ogbonna’s goal

Going into the final 20 minutes against Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United found themselves 3-0 down following goals from Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane.

Michail Antonio eventually got the Hammers on the scoresheet with a well-taken finish, before Angelo Ogbonna added West Ham’s second in the sixth minute of injury time:

These goals will make the scoreline look more respectable in the history books, but they did little to please West Ham fans witnessing the poor performance.

[ad_pod ]

That was especially the case with the Italian’s finish, as there was no time for the men in claret and blue to go out and get an equaliser.

It has been said that Ogbonna’s moment of quality simply papered over the cracks, rather than actually being a truly positive sign, in a comparable way to the Newcastle United loss.

A selection of Twitter reaction to the goal, including posts from unimpressed West Ham fans, can be seen below:

Ex-Everton player Cahill picks Arteta to self-isolate with

Former Everton player Tim Cahill has recently passed the time by hosting a Twitter Q&A, allowing supporters of the various teams he played for to get in touch and get answers to questions they may have thought about for a while. There have been questions about his time at Everton, such as who was the fastest player in his time at Goodison Park – to which he gave a cheeky response. One fan also stayed on topic by asking him which player he’d most want to be with during this period of self-isolation, and his answer may please some Toffees supporters. His former teammate Mikel Arteta was the name he plumped for, with the pair enjoying a great time together during one of Everton’s best spells since the turn of the century.

Under David Moyes the duo were key to Everton’s attack and helped the side finish fourth in 2004/05, and could have qualified for the Champions League had they not lost to Villarreal in qualifying the following season.

Cahill spent eight years at Goodison Park and Arteta six, but it is good to see they still have a strong bond to the current day, despite their career paths taken different trajectories.

They could even make good self-isolation buddies given the contrasting roles they find themselves in. The Australian could perhaps provide some light relief for the Arsenal manager, who has suffered with illness himself.

Rangers’ reported list of Alfredo Morelos replacements is abysmal

Rangers have reportedly identified several possible replacements for Alfredo Morelos, but none of them are even close to being good enough.

What’s the story?

According to Goal, the Gers are expecting interest in Morelos from the likes of Newcastle, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Leicester, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia and Inter Milan.

The report claims the Ibrox outfit have a list of possible signings to replace the Colombian’s goals, including Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster, Sint-Truiden’s Mohamed Buya Turay, Clermont Foot’s Adrian Grbic, Bordeaux’s Josh Maja and Dundee United’s Lawrence Shankland.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Not good enough

Quite simply, the club’s reported list of Morelos replacements is a joke. The 23 year-old has scored 29 goals in all competitions this season after bagging 30 last term, and none of the apparent targets come anywhere close to that.

Brewster has never scored a senior goal for Liverpool, and has four during his loan spell with Swansea, while Buya Turay struck 16 times last term but only once with his current club.

Grbic has managed 17 goals this season, but is currently plying his trade in Ligue 2, the second tier of French football. Considering Morelos has 22 goals in 37 European appearances, signing a player from a far inferior level of competition to replace him would be a monumental risk.

Then there is Maja, who after forcing his way out of Sunderland has only mustered eight goals in 24 appearances this season, while Shankland has racked up 28 goals, but much like Grbic is playing at a much lower level in the Scottish Championship.

Not one of the targets has a single goal in European competitions.

The report from Goal suggests Morelos’ market value is around €15m (£13.2m), but that Steven Gerrard will hope to get much more for his number 20. Either way, the club should be seeking much better replacements than struggling Liverpool loanees and players operating in second-tier leagues, all of whom combined have 22 less European goals than Morelos.

Rangers fans react to Ally McCoist’s hilarious League Cup final story

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to some hilarious comments from Ally McCoist, who shared a story on TalkSPORT of his time at Ibrox with Paul Gascoigne.

You didn’t really think McCoist was running out of amazing stories about Gazza, did you?

The former Gers target man was back on TalkSPORT again on Thursday, reeling out yet another classic encounter from his days alongside one of the most talented and enigmatic players of all time.

This time, the ex-striker revealed a bust-up between the pair that led to a victory in the 1996 League Cup final, explaining how a misunderstanding over where to pass the ball escalated: “I ran up and I grabbed him by the scruff of the neck and I said: ‘You ever try to make a fool of me in front of 60,000 again, and I’ll rip your head off!’

“He said to me: ‘Is that right? Let’s get this sorted out right now!’”

He continued to explain how Walter Smith demanded they stop arguing at half-time, only to grab Gascoigne by the scruff of the neck and hang him up on a coat peg.

“Eventually when it calmed down Gazza got up, went out of the dressing room and straight into the director’s room – in his gear by the way! – and had a whiskey.

“He threw it down his neck, came back into the dressing room, sat down, Walter did his team talk, he walked out for the second half and he scored two goals. He was unbelievable.”

Of course, it was McCoist himself who scored the other two goals in the epic 4-3 encounter, also playing a part in Gazza’s late winner.

Fans on Twitter have been loving the tale, praising Gazza as “the ultimate football maverick” while one supporter admitted it is “sad” that stories such as these won’t exist in football anymore. Check out some of the best responses down below…

Spurs fans want Memphis Depay as asking price slashed

One of Tottenham Hotspur’s previous transfer targets has been a hot topic of debate on social media this week after fresh reports emerged about his future.

According to ESPN, Lyon have slashed the asking price for forward Memphis Depay as he enters the final year of his contract with him stalling on offers of a new deal currently.

Back in November, Calciomercato mooted Spurs with a €50m (£43.5m) move for the Dutchman ahead of the January transfer window, but ultimately, that didn’t come to fruition with Jose Mourinho landed his native counterpart Steven Bergwijn instead.

Now supporters have been discussing the possibility of going back in for him now the former Man Utd man is reportedly available at a cut-price.

The 26-year-old had been in fine form for the Ligue 1 outfit this term – before picking up an ACL injury, Depay scored 14 goals from 18 appearances, playing in a variety of positions, including left-wing and as a false nine via Transfermarkt.

Spurs failed to land a new striker during the January transfer window, so Depay’s versatility makes an interesting case to revisit, but for now, that remains to be seen.

Newcastle fans react as Sky Sports’ Keith Downie comments on takeover

Newcastle United fans are not only growing impatient with the time it’s taking for their prospective takeover to become a reality, but also with the mixed messages that implicate it from even happening. However, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has tried to alleviate things somewhat with an encouraging claim this week…

He suggests that the takeover could happen at any time, whether that be today, tomorrow or another month and that the circumstances surrounding it all aren’t unusual, and this has sparked a reaction from some of the Magpies faithful.

It’s now been well over a month since reports first emerged claiming that Mike Ashley had agreed to sell the club for £300m to a Saudi-backed consortium, led by PCP’s Amanda Staveley and also involving the Reuben brothers amongst others.

The Sports Direct mogul has been at the helm for 13 years where he has overseen two allegations and several seasons of mediocrity so supporters are understandably desperate to see their club taken over with a new sense of financial power.

Anthony Gordon – Profile

Name: Anthony Gordon

Club: Everton

Date of Birth: 24 February 2001

Position: Attacking midfield/Centre-forward/Winger

Anthony Gordon – his career so far

Anthony Gordon has been a part of Everton for the majority of his life and footballing career. He was first scouted back when he was still plying his trade at Frameline Juniors FC as a very young lad, and shortly after, aged only 11, he was scooped up by the Blues and brought into the academy for further grooming and developing.

And it didn’t really take Gordon too long at all to start showcasing his talent and rapidly progressing through the ranks, eventually even being called up for the senior team despite being so young at that time.

But first, he had to warrant that honour by impressing at both Everton’s U18 and U23 squads, which he has done with style. The now 19-year-old prodigy recorded 31 appearances for the former team, bagging 16 goals and assisting further five on the side as well.

For the latter, he managed to score eight goals and claim four assists under his belt in the process, recording those stats in just 27 games spent with the team. But his first big break was just around the corner, back in December of 2017.

Not only did he end up featuring on a huge stage in the Blues’ Europa League group stage win over Apollon Limassol but he also became the sixth youngest man to play for Everton’s first team as he was aged only 16 years and 286 days back then.

Needless to say, that was a truly amazing experience but also a great sign for the youngster’s future. He would end up tallying four senior appearances in total with the following three after the debut all coming in 2019/20 – one in the EFL Cup and two in the Premier League.

Of course, the outside circumstances have made it impossible for him to register more appearances for the Toffees in the ongoing campaign but the early signs are more than just positive.

More things are bound to come from Gordon in the near future.

Transfer latest

In some big Everton news back in early 2019, Gordon had signed a new deal tying him to Goodison Park for at least the following four years and will be valid until 2023. And while that was mostly due to the fact they had to ensure his talents are groomed as part of the Blues’ squad, it was also a reaction to some of the interest from other teams.

According to some recent transfer news, Celtic were among the teams who were quite interested in the youngster and could even return for him once the summer transfer window opens soon.

The same transfer rumour stated the Scottish giants have been watching Gordon during his U18 and U23 ventures and he has impressed them enough to put him on the list of their potential targets once again.

But seeing how he was already praised by the likes of Carlo Ancelotti in the past, it still remains to be seen what Everton decide to do with their bright young talent.

Player profile

Gordon has now been training with the first team on a regular basis but he’s also been forced to be patient for his opportunities with the seniors. Still, that doesn’t really take anything away from skill, which is already at a high enough level to be turning heads in the upper hierarchy of Everton.

The youngster is extremely versatile in his approach and can basically be deployed anywhere across the final third of the pitch and even in deeper areas. He works best as the no.10 or the attacking midfielder, just behind the striker.

From there, he can use his pace and technical ability to help break down defences and wreak havoc in the opposition’s defensive line. But that particular skill set also makes him deadly from the wider areas and especially inside the box as he has a keen eye for goal.

Gordon has also been played in deeper positions as the team’s wide central midfielder, either on the left or on the right side, but he seems to be more effective the closer he is deployed to the opposition’s goal.

The New Lawn

Key information about The New Lawn

The New Lawn is one of the newer stadiums as it was built in 2006 and it now houses Forest Green Rovers. The ground itself is located in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire and is also one of the more eco-friendly stadiums out there.

Its maximum capacity is 5,140 but only 2,500 are seated. The New Lawn also has a pitch that measures 101 by 64 metres and is covered with natural grass with no undersoil heating installed nor a running track surrounding it.

The record attendance of 4,836 was set on 3 January 2009 when Forest Green Rovers faced Derby County.

A history of The New Lawn

The New Lawn has been the home of Forest Green Rovers ever since it was built in 2006 but the club was originally settled at a ground called ‘The Lawn Ground’, which was also famously known as a place ‘at the top of the hill’, hence the club’s nickname ‘The Little Club On The Hill’.

But in 2003, the £3million project was authorised by the council and construction of a new stadium commenced on 3 May 2005. And this was despite much frowning and controversy due to the ground’s location which was on school playing fields. The New Lawn would be finished in 2006 and the first official game to be played there was a friendly clash against the England C team in September.

The ground now has various facilities to house 230 car parking places, three coach parking places and a total capacity of 5,140 across two seated stands – the main stand and another seated stand. However, the stadium is yet to be converted into an all-seater so 2,640 places are still in the standing area.

Interestingly enough, during the 2007/08 season, Forest Green Rovers would share The New Lawn with Gloucester City due to severe flooding to their own stadium but have since moved on. In one of their proudest moments, the ground was picked to be a part of the city of Bristol’s 2018 FIFA World Cup bid to act as a training ground facility in December 2009.

But now, The New Lawn is actually famous for its environmental and eco-friendly features and works. In June 2011, they began work on the pitch at the stadium to make it the first organic football pitch in the whole world and then, at the end of that very same year, they also installed 180 solar panels to the EESI stand to help the club generate its own electricity.

A year after, the first solar-powered robotic lawnmower was introduced on a football pitch for the first time in British football – they called it the Etesia robot mower or more commonly known as a ‘mow bot’. In August 2012, they also played a pre-season friendly game against Manchester United in aid of the Sustainability in Sport Foundation, another environmental cause.

Finally, The New Lawn hosted what is believed to be the world’s first-ever vegan football clash on 1 November 2014 in a Conference National game versus Lincoln City.

Tickets to watch Forest Green Rovers at The New Lawn

All tickets to watch Forest Green Rovers play at The New Lawn can be found on the club’s official website. There are three types of ticket available: premium seated, seated, and standing. The price won’t go up depending on the game and the most expensive adult ticket costs £25.

There are also season tickets that can be found on the aforementioned website. The adult season ticket in a premium seated category costs £425.
