Man United Planning Future Bid For £20,000-A-Week Player

Manchester United are preparing an attempt to snap up Evan Ferguson in a future transfer window, according to a report from Sky Sports.

Who wants to sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton?

The 18-year-old has taken the Premier League by storm this campaign, with the teenager already emerging as a first-team regular and goalscorer for Brighton. Helping the Seagulls to break into the top six, he has managed a total of 17 games this season and has six goals and two assists already. That means he currently has an average of 0.88 goals or assists per 90 minutes – an impressive record for a youngster.

In addition, the attacker has already made an impact for the Republic of Ireland at international level. He's broken into the first team reckoning with three caps and already has his first goal under his belt – showing that the big stage certainly doesn't faze him.

It's these showings that have now led to interest in his services from across the rest of the top flight. A fresh report from Sky Sports suggests Man United are keen to land the forward in the future and that they have laid down plans to prise him away from his current side from the next summer transfer window.

They won't be alone in trying to snap up Ferguson's signature, though, with the striker also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur.

Whilst it doesn't mention that a deal will go ahead this coming summer – which is unlikely considering he has only just penned a new agreement with Brighton – it suggests that the interest and the bids could begin from this time next year.

Are Man United signing Evan Ferguson?

The player certainly looks like he could be a real talent in the future, especially considering what he has already achieved at such a tender age.

Already, the attacker has managed a rating of 6.76 on WhoScored – putting him within the top ten performers in the current Brighton squad. It shows that even at 18 years old, he has already become a vital part of the success his side are having, with the Seagulls assured of a European place with a game to spare.

Even those in the media have already been quick to laud the striker's performances. Football journalist Josh Bunting labelled Ferguson as "excellent", and it seems as though the player ticks plenty of boxes.

If Ferguson was to become a new recruit at Old Trafford, his arrival may well be considered bittersweet, as Sky Sports also noted how he had recently been dubbed a "£50m-plus mistake", with the Red Devils failing to take him in following a previous trial.

Nevertheless, Erik ten Hag would surely love to have the chance to snap up Ferguson this summer, and judging from his performances, the forward will be worth the wait.

Conflict of interest rife in BPL again

The issue of conflict of interest is once again set to dog the BPL with BCB directors having connections to franchise owners and the board allowing national selectors to be part of the franchise management

Mohammad Isam28-Sep-2016The issue of conflict of interest is once again set to dog the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with BCB directors having connections to franchise owners and the board allowing national selectors to be part of the franchises’ team management. The Dhaka Dynamites franchise is owned by Beximco, where BCB president Nazmul Hassan is managing director of their pharmaceuticals unit and board director Ismail Haider Mallick is an executive.Another BCB director Abdul Awal Chowdhury has been part of the Barisal Bulls ownership since 2015. It is unclear whether he is now the sole owner after the BCB imposed a life-ban on the franchise’s co-owner Rizwan Bin Farouq for his involvement in an altercation inside the Shere Bangla Stadium at the end of the Asia Cup final this year.Kazi Inam Ahmed, another BCB director, is a director at Gemcon Group, which recently bought the Khulna franchise. Inam is chairman of the BCB’s marketing and commercial committee but it is the BPL governing council that takes decisions regarding the league’s marketing and commercial activities.Mallick said such conflicts were common in Bangladesh cricket, with top Dhaka Premier League clubs having their officials in the BCB.”Abahani plays in the Dhaka Premier League, where I am the general secretary of their cricket [committee],” he said. “[Afzalur Rahman] Sinha bhai, Jalal [Yunus] bhai and Akram [Khan] bhai are also with Abahani. Lokman [Hossain Bhuiyan] bhai is from Mohammedan [Sporting Club]. Have we stopped putting out teams?”In every cricket board around the world, every official or ex-player who comes to the board is involved with one team or the other. Can someone who is not involved at club, state or district level come to the board? It can’t happen.”Mallick said that he and the BCB chief Hassan had no connection with the Dhaka Dynamites franchise, which was managed by another unit of Beximco. “The board president and I are in Beximco Pharmaceuticals,” he said. “This team is looked after by Beximco Online Limited. Every entity is enlisted in the stock market. How can I influence the lottery?”Mallick also denied allegations that the Dhaka Dynamites franchise knew ahead of other franchises about the governing council’s decision to let A-category players choose their own teams.”Comilla formally told the BCB CEO that they want to keep Mashrafe [Mortaza]. Chittagong said they want to retain Tamim Iqbal, while Barisal said they want either Mahmudullah or Mushfiqur [Rahim]. It is true that every team was interested in Shakib [Al Hasan].”Now, you have to ask Shakib why he went to Dhaka. Definitely it is not the 55 lakh (Taka), or Tamim didn’t go to Chittagong just for 50 lakh. These five players led by Mashrafe told us officially that they want to select their own teams.”Mallick also said that BPL franchises could hire national selectors and local coaches employed by the BCB, creating another possible source of conflict of interest.”We will allow local coaching staff and selectors from the BCB to be attached to the franchises, but not any of the foreign coaching staff,” he said. “The selectors won’t be allowed in the dressing room on match days but they can actively participate in selecting XIs.Mallick said the franchises had requested that national selectors and BCB coaches be part of their management, because there was a lack of ex-cricketers and coaches good enough to oversee international players in the BPL.”What can the selectors do? Can they pick a D-grade cricketer for the national team?” Mallick said. “To keep their neutrality, we are not allowing them in the dressing room during [BPL] matches. This may influence something. But they can’t influence anything sitting in the draft table.”In Bangladesh, how many of the local coaches or ex-cricketers can compete with international coaches? It was also the franchises’ demand that they be made available. It is for their benefit.”

Southampton Backed To Sign £9k-A-Week Midfielder

Southampton could make a move for Swansea City midfielder Ryan Manning in the summer transfer window, according to transfer expert Dean Jones.

Has Manning shone this season?

Saints have suffered a horrible season in the Premier League, finishing the campaign bottom of the table, with their relegation confirmed a number of weeks ago now. The key now is for the club to secure a quickfire return to the top flight, rather than languishing in the Championship for an extended period of time.

It looks as though Russell Martin will be coming in as the new Southampton manager this summer, with Ruben Selles departing now that the season is finished. The 37-year-old is a young and upcoming boss who has been in charge of Swansea since 2021, but he now looks ready to make the next step.

It could be that Martin aims to bring some of his players with his to St Mary's this summer and it looks as though Manning could be at the front of the queue, in that respect.

Could Manning join Southampton this summer?

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones claimed that the 26-year-old is a signing that "would make sense", heading to the south coast with his current boss in the process:

"Saints have got to be careful about the level of spending, so this would look like a signing that would make sense."

Manning could be an astute summer signing by Southampton, with the fact that he will be available on a free transfer – his current Swansea deal expires next month – making it less of a risky purchase. The £9,000-a-week midfielder has been a good servant for the Swans, scoring seven goals and registering 19 assists in 109 appearances, not to mention being hailed as "outstanding" by Martin himself.

At 26, the midfielder is at a good point in his career to come in and hit the ground running, providing Saints with quality and depth in midfielder, and he is arguably coming off the back of one of his best season to date, having started 41 of Swansea's 46 Championship matches, scoring five goals and chipping in with 10 assists in the competitions.

Manning has also won six caps for the Republic of Ireland, which also highlights the pedigree he possesses, and he is someone who could have a positive influence at St Mary's, especially as Martin knows him so well as a player.

Celtic Ready To Offer Ange Postecoglou Record Contract

Celtic are ready to offer manager Ange Postecoglou a record-breaking contract to keep him at Parkhead, Football Insider report.

What’s the latest news on Ange Postecoglou’s future?

Postecoglou is on course to lead the Hoops to a domestic treble, and his continued success in Glasgow has resulted in rumours of a move away.

The Australian has been linked with a number of Premier League sides this season, most recently Tottenham and Wolves. Reports have suggested that Spurs are preparing to make their move for the 57-year-old, who’s rolling 12-month contract in Scotland is actually set to expire in a matter of days.

The manager has brushed aside talks of a potential move to north London, though, saying:

"I think anyone that knows me knows that what is important for me is the here and now. I've never planned anything in my football career.

"My ambitions right now are to enjoy tomorrow and have a good game and try to win a cup final to have a special year. It's not every year that you get the chance to win a Treble. If anyone thinks that I am thinking anything other than that then they don't know me."

It looks as if Celtic will do everything they can to keep him at the club heading into the 2023/24 season, following a recent update.

According to Football Insider reporter Wayne Veysey, Celtic are ready to offer Postecoglou a record-breaking deal, making him the best-paid manager in the club’s history ahead of Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

Fingers crossed…

Postecoglou has helped transform the club’s fortunes following a disappointing 2020/21 season under Neil Lennon which saw rivals Rangers win the Scottish Premiership.

The current head coach has won back-to-back league titles and has helped the club bring in some shrewd signings with his superb knowledge of the Japanese and Asian markets. Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate are just two players who have gone from strength to strength under Postecoglou, with the pair ranking in the club’s top 10 performers this season, as per WhoScored.

Celtic may need to make assurances to Postecoglou alongside a possible record-breaking deal to keep him happy, though, with previous reports suggesting that he wants a new centre-back, central midfielder and striker this summer.

Hopefully, the club will be able to satisfy his needs in the market, which could play a role in keeping him at the club, and after this recent update over a new deal, Postecoglou's future will certainly be one to watch.

New Zealand 'positive' about Williamson's return

On a day when BCCI’s old guard fought in the court for its existence, thousands saw the two Test teams practice with return of Kane Williamson and Gautam Gambhir likely for Indore’s debut Test

Sidharth Monga in Indore06-Oct-20161:58

Williamson likely to return for Indore Test – Jurgensen

By the time the New Zealand team arrived at the Holkar Stadium for an optional training session at around 10am, about 500 people were already in the stands. They cheered Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain who had missed the last Test because of illness, on. They were happy Williamson was batting in the nets. If Williamson played a good shot or raised his bat to them, they clapped. If he missed, they ooh-ed and aah-ed. By the time the Indian team arrived in the afternoon this number had swollen to about 4000. Mostly students, they queued up patiently outside the ground, and proved to be no hindrance to the preparation of either the teams or the ground staff once they got in. They sat patiently in the stands and watched. The Holkar Stadium apparently has a tradition to let the fans enter the ground for even the practice sessions. This is a luxury in India. Other stadiums generally consider the fans an inconvenience; going by the BCCI ticketing practices these grounds would rather look after only the broadcasters and the VIPs, who are given complimentary passes. On a day when the old guard of the BCCI was fighting for its existence in the Supreme Court, a ground that was gearing up for its Test debut was showing the way.Out in the middle, preparations went on regardless. Williamson batting in the nets, and having a bit of a bowl was good news for New Zealand. “It’s looking positive,” Shane Jurgensen, New Zealand’s bowling coach, said. “Final confirmation on that will probably be tomorrow. We trained today, and he did some batting and had a decent hit and a run around. We’ll have another look at him tomorrow, but it looks positive.”India welcomed a senior face as well. Gautam Gambhir, who last played for India in 2014, was the first one to pad up for India. India’s batting coach Sanjay Bangar empathised with Gambhir’s situation; he gets one Test, and it is quite possible he is usurped by both the injured openers by the time England come. Bangar, however, refused to rule him out for the rest of the season. “Gautam Gambhir is a quality player; what he has done really for himself, for the time he was out of the Indian team he kept on performing for his franchise and state side,” Bangar said. “When he got an opportunity in the Duleep Trophy, he was one of the top scorers there. That too against the pink ball, which certain batsmen found was difficult to pick. Yes, he ticked all boxes. Untimely injury to KL Rahul Shikhar Dhawan made sure that there is a place for him. He is something of a quality performer. Proven record against spin bowling. And the number of Test matches we are going to play in India, he becomes an important player right at the top of the order.”Gautam Gambhir is set to play his first Test since August 2014•Getty ImagesGambhir has come back with runs in Duleep Trophy, and with an open stance, at least half the way to what Shivnarine Chanderpaul had. Gambhir has worked on it with Justin Langer and Langer’s personal coach Neil Holder. The need of the hour, though, might be a change for the New Zealand spinners to work on. Their batsmen have shown a lot of discipline to make India’s bowlers work hard, a fact R Ashwin has acknowledged in his interview with , but they have been undone by natural variation for the India bowlers. India exploit it more because their spinners bowl with the seam parallel to the ground whereas the New Zealand spinners – like others who visit Asia – bowl with the seam pointing to fine leg at 45 degrees.”It was certainly something we were working on before we came to India,” Jurgensen said. “It doesn’t come as naturally, we bowl a different way where we come from. But the boys have been working on it to get that natural variation. Every game we’ve improved.”It was refreshing to see the talk return to seam positions and India’s mindset of not even thinking of losing in crunch situations, thus, according to Bangar, being clear in their minds. It must not be easy for the players from either side to be clear in these times. India’s players are used to answering to the BCCI even though the money in cricket is public’s and generated because of them. They must be wondering what lies ahead. New Zealand’s players must be aware the BCCI is capable of carrying through with its threats of pulling out of a series, and would have spent the two days after the Kolkata Test in limbo. There was no information from their hosts, the BCCI.Once again, though, if the practice sessions and the response two days before Indore’s debut Test are anything to go by, on the field it is almost certain to be business as usual.

Rangers Could Sign Their Own Mason Mount

An update has emerged on Glasgow Rangers and their plans to bolster their attacking midfield options ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

What's the latest on Luis Palma to Rangers?

According to Light Blues insider The 4th Official, the club are keen on a swoop for Honduras international Luis Palma from Greek side Aris Thessaloniki in the summer transfer window.

They Tweeted: "I have only done stories I am confident about, and according to a few people I have spoken with, the Rangers interest in both Cyriel Dessers and Luis Palma is real."

This comes after Football Insider reported, last month, that the Gers are not in talks with Aris over a deal to snap up the forward, who is wanted by multiple unnamed clubs in Europe

Would Luis Palma be a good signing for Rangers?

The 23-year-old has the potential to be an excellent addition to the squad as manager Michael Beale could unearth his next Mason Mount by striking a £4.3m deal for the attacker.

Rangers' head coach worked closely with the Chelsea midfielder during his time at Stamford Bridge working in the academy and is said to have played a key role in the England international's development.

As recently as 2021, it was reported that the player continues to make contact with Beale to pick his brain and ask for advice, which shows how much of an impact the Gers boss had on Mount.

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

The 24-year-old ace has gone on to become a regular at Chelsea in the first-team and has racked up 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 appearances so far, whilst mainly being deployed as an attacking midfielder but also out wide at times.

Palma could arrive at Ibrox and be Beale's own version of the Blues dynamo as his form for Aris in Greece suggests that he has the potential to make a huge impact in the final third for Rangers.

In the 2022/23 campaign, the Honduras international, who has mainly played as an attacking midfielder and left winger in his career so far, produced 11 goals and four assists in 20 starts in the Greek top flight.

This shows that the attacker is capable of frequently finding the back of the net from a midfield position, much in the same way that Beale taught the now-England star to do.

He created 1.4 chances per game for his teammates in the division, a number not too dissimilar to the creative impact made by Mount, who scored 13 goals in the last two top-flight seasons combined. On top of that, the England international produced 1.8 key passes in 2021/22 and 1.3 in 2022/23.

These statistics suggest that Palma, whose goal contributions were hailed as “brilliant” by agent Paulo Hernandez, has the potential to be a Mount-like figure for Beale at Ibrox.

Arthur puts Pakistan batting collapse down to 'fatigue'

Pakistan’s batting collapses in both innings in Sharjah have transformed a dead rubber into a compelling contest

Umar Farooq in Sharjah02-Nov-2016If you Google “Pakistan batting collapse”, you will find dozens of results. Batting lapses are a recurring feature for the team, with hardly a series going by without their batsman being rattled. They became the No. 1 Test team this year, but the ride to the top was not always smooth, featuring quite a few such slides. In another example of this, Pakistan suffered collapses in both innings against West Indies in Sharjah, making a dead rubber a compelling contest. On Wednesday they lost five wickets for 33 runs, setting West Indies a target of 153 runs in five sessions. It did not look good for Pakistan but the game taken a 180-degree turn when their bowlers five quick wickets to shake the chase. Once again, though, the match swung with Kraigg Brathwaite and Shane Dowrich’s unbroken stand of 47, which left West Indies needing 39 on the final day with five wickets in hand. The day started with batsmen Azhar Ali and Sarfraz Ahmed at the crease; both were out to soft dismissals, before Mohammad Amir seemed to indulge in a bit of slapstick to be run out. It seemed like, more than West Indies tripping up Pakistan, a touch of laziness and complacency was plunging them into trouble.Head coach Mickey Arthur put their batting troubles down to “fatigue”. He dismissed comments on complacency, though he did admit that it felt like their job was already done coming into this Test with the scoreline 2-0. “We haven’t been at our best in this Test match and we will continue to talk about it,” he said. “We didn’t meet our standards but I can’t fault the players. They have been here for eight weeks now after having a 10-day break after a very long UK tour. And it was almost mission accomplished for us before this Test match.”I think we should have been way more patient with the bat. West Indies’ tactics were good, they set us up and made us make mistakes but then we gave them opportunity to do so. This got us in trouble in these conditions particularly, where we needed to score big in the first innings. We didn’t do that and ultimately that put us under pressure for the rest of the Test match.”He said that Pakistan were by no means out of the match, though. “Maybe a bit of fatigue has crept into our performance. We really wanted to win every Test match, every game we play, and this game is not over by any stretch of the imagination. We would like to be more clinical and it’s a pity that we got ourselves into this situation, but we still can get ourselves out of this.”The Pakistan selectors have already retained this squad, with minor changes, for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. The squad will travel straight to New Zealand from the UAE, flying out on Friday. When asked how the fatigue factor would affect them on that tour, and the series against Australia after that, Arthur said: “When I talk about fatigue, it’s about the whole package: it’s about playing against same opponent, being in a one hotel all the time, playing in the same conditions, at a ground that we know well.”We certainly need a refresh, we need to get into a different environment, need to think about the good cricket we have played and reassess where we want to be in the two massive series that we are going to play.”Pakistan play two Tests in New Zealand starting on November 17, before three Tests and five ODIs in Australia from December 15.

ICC 'disappointed' by du Plessis' decision to appeal verdict

ICC chief executive David Richardson stated that until the laws of the game are amended, the practice of charging players when evidence shows a breach will continue

Firdose Moonda25-Nov-20162:03

David Richardson: “Unless the Laws are changed, the current practice of charging players when the evidence shows an obvious breach will continue”

The ICC has said it does not agree with Cricket South Africa’s assertion that law 42.3 is unclear in its definition of what constitutes an artificial substance and is “disappointed” with Faf du Plessis’ decision to appeal his guilty verdict for ball-tampering. Although the ICC cannot comment about the matter in detail until the appeal is heard, CEO David Richardson addressed the media in Adelaide and emphasised his organisation’s understanding of the fair- and unfair-play laws.”These state that a player should not use artificial substances to shine the ball,” Richardson’s statement read. “The ICC understands that to include, but is not limited to, sunscreen, lip ice and residue from sweets.”He confirmed that the ICC “does not wish to prevent players from using these substances for legitimate purposes. However, any deliberate attempt to apply such substances to the ball, as was the case here, will not be acceptable.”Richardson did not rule out the possibility that the law could be changed, but stressed that until such an amendment, the laws in their current form will be applied. “This will continue to be reported and the ICC confirms that unless the Laws are changed, the current practice of charging players when the evidence shows an obvious breach will continue. ICC Umpires will remind all teams of the Laws as they stand.”While CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat said he hoped to engage with the ICC at their next cricket committee meeting in May – and said it was due for discussion even before the du Plessis incident – Richardson confirmed it could be put on the agenda in light of the recent saga. “I think he (Lorgat) jumped the gun in saying it’s on the agenda. But I think that in light of this incident and of other comments being made by players around the world, I think it’s fair to say it should be discussed by the cricket committee going forward.”Any discussions would be part of what Richardson called a “two-stage process”, the first of which would concentrate on the appeal. A date has not been set but the ICC said the appeal would be heard at “the earliest convenience”. Although the ICC recognised du Plessis’ right to appeal, Richardson maintained that CSA’s conduct, in particular the press conference at the MCG when Hashim Amla stood with the entire squad alongside him and dismissed the allegations against du Plessis, was disrespecting the process.”I think it’s fair to say I’m disappointed that they don’t respect that the laws are there. They are there and the process is not necessarily respected. I was disappointed in the initial sort of comment that this is a joke – that kind of comment,” he said. “But full marks to them, subsequent to that they’ve acknowledged we attend the hearing, go through the process and follow it. So perhaps that initial reaction I thought was uncalled for but subsequently it’s within their rights.”David Richardson on the decision against Faf du Plessis: “These decisions are not taken lightly because it was just so obvious under the current laws that we thought we had to report him.”•Getty ImagesRichardson did not read too much into the role broadcaster’s play in bringing transgressions of this law to light, comparing it to instances when the stump microphones pick up players bringing the game into disrepute. “I don’t think the players – or we – should be too worried or concerned about that (the broadcasters). It’s a similar argument when it comes to bad language used around the stump microphones. If you’re going to use bad language and somehow it is picked up by somebody – you’ve got to live with it. So decide what kind of behaviour you want to show and behave accordingly,” he said. And, because it is not easy to monitor which artificial substances are being used, Richardson maintained that if someone is caught, they will be punished.”This has always been an issue that’s been quite difficult to police,” he said. “Even before we spoke about using mints and sweets, lip ice – and we’ve been using lip ice and sunscreen on our faces for years – we understand that inadvertently in shining the ball there’s a potential for it to get onto the ball. And for that reason we’re not going to go around wildly accusing players of cheating and using the lip ice, sunscreen or sweets. We’ve taken the approach that we will only really charge someone if it’s obviously being done for that particular purpose.”There’s two examples in the past. One was Rahul Dravid where he actually took the sweet and rubbed it on the ball, you probably couldn’t get more obvious than that. And in our opinion this instance. So if anyone does something similar we will hopefully get to see it, treat it in exactly the same way we’ve treated Faf in this case. These decisions are not taken lightly because it was just so obvious under the current laws that we thought we had to report him.”Asked what he thought about Steven Smith’s acknowledgment that all players shine the ball the same way, Richardson distanced himself. “I’m not sure he exactly went that far as to say the same way he was talking about shining the ball.”He moved even further away when asked to respond to Lorgat’s comment that Richardson himself was part of the South African brigade that shined the ball.”I thought that comment was probably inappropriate but I can speak for myself and I can confirm I never – probably because I was the wicketkeeper and had no real need to shine the ball in any way, but I can confirm I never used – and I used lip-ice and sunscreen religiously for 30 years – and never put it on the ball.”

Nottingham Forest Eyeing £12k-A-Week Serie A Defender

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Monza left back Carlos Augusto this summer, journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed.

Who is Carlos Augusto?

The £12,000-a-week defender was a key player for Monza throughout the 2022/23 season, starting 35 of his side's 38 Serie A matches mostly on the left of a back five. In that time, he scored six goals and registered five assists, highlighted his attacking pedigree from his defensive role, also winning four Man of the Match awards from WhoScored.

Augusto's performances throughout the campaign are likely to have caught the eye of a number of clubs – he led his squad in direct goal contributions and overall match rating from wing-back – and with his current deal expiring next year, he finds himself at a potential crossroads in his career.

It means his current club will either have to sell him this summer, in order to receive a healthy fee for his services, or risky losing him for free in 2024, should he fail to agree an extension.

That's where Forest come into play, as the Reds look to make significant reinforcements in the summer transfer window. They could soon have to replace loan star Renan Lodi, with reports suggesting they may miss out on a permanent deal for the Brazilian.

Are Forest signing Augusto?

Writing on Twitter on Sunday, Romano claimed that Forest are keen on the idea of signing Augusto, although Inter Milan are ahead of them in the pecking order:

"Inter will continue talks with Monza for Carlo Augusto next week. He’s concrete target as new left back — no issues on personal terms. Nottingham Forest also appreciate the Brazilian LB but Inter are now ahead."

Augusto could be a really shrewd signing by Forest if they could get a deal over the line, although the presence of Inter is clearly a possible issue, given their status as recent Champions League finalists.

At 24, the Brazilian would be arriving at the City Ground at a good age, with plenty of time to mature under Steve Cooper, and his aforementioned quality going forward could make Forest more of a force in the attacking area of the pitch.

That's not to say that Augusto isn't also an effective defensive player, however, averaging 2.1 tackles and clearances apiece in Serie A in 2022/23, so the Reds could be signing an impressive all-round package who could help take Cooper's side up a gear once next season gets underway.

Augusto looks like the perfect replacement for Lodi if Evangelos Marinakis cannot tie the latter down to a permanent stay.
