Terrible player: West Ham fans are not interested in Phil Jones arrival

[ad_pod ]

According to Sky Sports News, Manchester United want to sign West Ham United’s Issa Diop in this summer’s transfer window.

And the report has added that United are willing to pay £45m ‘plus a player’ for the former Toulouse youngster.

Sky Sports News made no mention of the potential player in question. However, according to ExWHUemployee, Phil Jones was the individual.

Jones was once regarded as one of the best young talents in England.

However, it would be fair to say that the former Blackburn Rovers teenager has just not developed in the way that many thought he would.

The West Ham fans have been on social media offering their thoughts on the fact that Jones could arrive at the London Stadium this summer.

And it would be fair to say that the majority are simply not interested in landing the 27-time England international.

A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Two reasons why Liverpool are foolish to target Bruno Fernandes

[ad_pod ]

If there’s one name that has been in the transfer spotlight more than most players this summer it’s Bruno Fernandes.

The Sporting Lisbon star had an incredible season as the Portuguese international raked 20 goals and 13 assists in 33 Liga NOS matches, and in doing so the 24-year-old midfielder has attracted plenty of interest from across the continent, namely Liverpool.

The Reds have been linked with a move for Fernandes for some time, and according to a report published last week by Correio da Manha (via Metro), the Champions League holders have been the first side to bid for the Sporting talisman, with a €45 million (£40 million) offer on the table according to the Portuguese outlet.

And according to Italian journalist Pietro Balzano Prota, Man United were close to sealing a deal but Liverpool have since interfered in negotiations.

The Reds have garnered plenty of success after spending heavily in the transfer market over the past two years, but here are two key reasons why Jurgen Klopp’s side would be wise to avoid a big-money move for Fernandes…

Keita can’t be dismissed yet

Naby Keita’s first season in England didn’t go to plan as many had expected, but that doesn’t mean the former RB Leipzig star should be disregarded just yet.

The Guinea international only registered two goals and one assist in the Premier League, a poor return considering he managed six goals and five assists in the Bundesliga during the season which preceded his move to Anfield.

Fernandes’ arrival would give Keita extra competition before he has been given a fair chance to prove himself in a star-studded midfield.

Landing the Portuguese sensation could force him to consider a fresh challenge away from the club due to a lack of first-team opportunities, and it would be an unsatisfying way to say goodbye to a player who club legend Bruce Grobbelaar once claimed was the successor to Steven Gerrard, per The Mirror.

Oxlade-Chamberlain can be a star next season

It’s not just Keita who could suffer if Fernandes joins.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a player that many fans will surely be looking forward to seeing in action next season after nearly a full year on the sideline with injury, but his impact could be stifled by a further injection of midfield quality.

Prior to his injury, Oxlade-Chamberlain showed signs of reaching the potential many saw in him during his formative years, scoring three and assisting seven in the Premier League, and with a full pre-season with Liverpool under his belt the former Arsenal man could re-establish himself as a key figure next season – unless, of course, Fernandes spoils the party.

Klopp would be wise to consolidate the quality he has in central midfield rather than seek to strengthen with yet more signings.

Celtic fans are not keen on signing Paddy McNair this summer

Celtic fans are not keen on signing versatile Middlesbrough man Paddy McNair this summer.

It was reported last week that the Hoops were keen on making a move for the player, said to be valued at around £5m, with manager Neil Lennon later confirming to reporters that there is an interest in signing him.

The 24-year-old played 23 times for Boro last season and can perform a variety of roles, able to play in midfield, the centre of defence and even at right-back.

Celtic fans aren’t happy about Arsenal’s bid for one of their key players…

A product of the Manchester United academy, the 24-cap Northern Ireland man could be an effective squad option for the Hoops, who require competent back-up in the positions McNair is comfortable with.

It’s certainly debatable whether McNair is a direct improvement on any of the players currently at Celtic though, considering he’s never really held down a regular starting role, and as a result supporters have their misgivings about making a move for the player.

Jermain Defoe may still be Steven Gerrard’s go-to striker at Rangers

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Alfredo Morelos was entirely missing from a training match against Welsh outfit TNS today, with Steven Gerrard turning to Jermain Defoe and Greg Stewart in each half.

Rangers reported on the club’s official website that the Gers ran out 1-0 winners against the Welsh champions, with Defoe netting the only goal of the game.

The eleven who started the match looks pretty close to a full strength Gers side and it’ll be interesting to see whether that’s the team that the Ibrox boss goes with in next week’s Europa League qualifier against St Joseph’s of Gibraltar.

A reason hasn’t been declared for Morelos’ absence, but the fact he hasn’t taken part in one of the last team tune-ups ahead of competitive action will raise eyebrows and once against ignites the debate about who Rangers’ first choice striker actually is.

Check out the below above to see football played as you’ve never seen it before… in a maze!

On the chalkboard

Morelos was undoubtedly the main man at Ibrox for most of last season, but after a red card at Celtic Park and subsequent suspension, Jermain Defoe came into the team and didn’t give up his place in the side when the Colombian returned until the very last day of league action.

Defoe scored three goals and assisted three times in his six starts after that day at Celtic Park, combining expertly with supporting players like Scott Arfield.

It’s form that makes him a viable choice to start the coming season as first-choice in the position still, with question marks about Morelos’ temperament and discipline rumbling on since that fateful day against the Hoops.

Gerrard played Defoe, Morelos and Stewart in three 30-minute periods against Mansfield at the weekend, but with the 22-year-old dropping out against TNS, the Premier League legend now looks likely to get the nod next week.

Morelos is a quality finisher, but as former Ibrox striker Kris Boyd pointed out last month, the partnership that Defoe built with Arfield was superb, with Boyd also claiming that the Colombian “plays a lot for himself”.

Does Gerrard also consider Defoe to offer the team more with his all-round game?

All eyes will be on the first team sheet of the season when the Gers kick off their 2019/20 campaign.

Leeds’ willingness to let Wilks go is baffling

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to reports from The Hull Daily Mail, Hull City are interested in signing Mallik Wilks as it is understood that Leeds United are willing to let the winger go on a permanent basis if the offer is right.

Barnsley have also reportedly shown an interest in signing the 20-year-old, but the Whites’ willingness to let him go without much of a fight is baffling.

Wilks’ season

The winger enjoyed a fantastic season out on loan at Doncaster Rovers last term. He scored 14 goals and assisted a further eight as the Yorkshire club made the League One playoff semi-final.

Throughout the season Leeds fans were in awe of what the youngster was doing at The Keepmoat Stadium, and excitement was growing about what he would do for the Whites once he returned.

Letting him go

For some reason, the Elland Road outfit don’t want to keep hold of a player who put up such promising numbers in England’s third division last season, and it just doesn’t add up.

One problem that has plagued Marcelo Bielsa’s side is a lack of goal contributions from the left-wing. Last season’s first choice Jack Harrison contributed to just seven goals throughout the entire campaign, yet Leeds have opted to bring him back and are seemingly set to let Wilks go.

It makes no sense, why would a team that has enjoyed bringing through young talents such as Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke turn their back on a 20-year-old prospect coming off the back of a red hot season in League One?

It’s hard to believe that a youngster putting up those types of numbers wouldn’t be of interest to the Championship club. Indeed, he isn’t experienced at this level yet, but to outright sell him rather than loaning him out is completely baffling.

Leeds fans expecting big things from Jack Harrison after impressive showing

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter are expecting big things from Jack Harrison this season after his impressive performance in the Whites’ first pre-season friendly against York City.

The winger scored twice and assisted once in the first half before being subbed off in the 62nd minute as Marcelo Bielsa fully rotated his XI.

Fans had previously been critical of Harrison due to his poor performances last term. His return in terms of goal-involvements last season was rather poor as he scored four times and provided three assists.

Supporters were impressed at his first showing this season though, and it’s hard to disagree with them.

He had an incredible partnership with Barry Douglas down the left, and his two goals were both well taken.

Certain fans allowed themselves to get carried away. One stated that Harrison could win the Ballon d’Or next year, while another joked that he could be Leeds’ equivalent to Lionel Messi.

Manchester United reportedly not interested in double swoop for Fernandes and Pepe

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United have no interest in making a double swoop for Sporting CP’s Bruno Fernandes and Lille’s Nicolas Pepe this summer amid speculation of potential moves for the pair.

What’s the word?

The report claims that the Red Devils feel clubs have used the side’s desire to strengthen their squad this summer as a way of hiking up the prices of players they want to sell.

It adds that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are not interested in either Fernandes or Pepe and that the constant rumours surrounding the duo potentially joining United has begun to “irritate” the Red Devils.

A public battle

One of the biggest issues that his blighted United’s summer transfer window this summer has simply been that every club in Europe is aware of the Manchester side’s desire to sign players. It puts the Red Devils at a distinct disadvantage as selling clubs know that the club are desperate for new signings and know they can use that to their own benefit.

The Daily Mirror’s claim that there is a suspicion amongst the club hierarchy’s that agents and clubs are trying to use speculation to increase the asking price of players certainly feels like it has a lot of weight to it. United have been linked with what feels like every player on the planet, and yet they have only managed to sign two this summer.

Fernandes and Pepe are fine footballers, but are they the kind of signings that United feel is a priority? The moves for Harry Maguire and Sean Longstaff feel more in line with the supposed thinking at the club to sign young, British players, and a major contrast to the kind of European bidding war you would expect with a swoop for either Fernandes or Pepe.

As the transfer window deadline inches ever closer, The Daily Mirror’s report certainly raises the need to take rumours with a pinch of salt and a touch of caution.

Playmaker: Ravel Morrison’s "last chance" could make or break Sheffield United’s season

If Ravel Morrison’s story in football has taught us anything, it’s that talent can only go so far if you don’t have the right attitude.

[ad_pod ]

The former Manchester United youth academy product was once claimed by Rio Ferdinand as the most talented player former Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson saw during his time at the club (per JOE), but as we all know, the now 26-year-old midfielder never lived up to the promise he once possessed with the Premier League giants.

After spells across the world in countries such as Italy, Mexico and Sweden, Morrison returns to the Premier League for the 2019/20 season with Sheffield United (per BBC Sport), signing a one-year deal with the Blades as Chris Wilder aims to impress in his first season in charge in the top-flight, and for Ingood Nick of Two-Footed Talk in the video below, the signing of the former United youth player could be the playmaker’s last chance of achieving his once obvious potential.

Morrison is one of seven players to join Sheffield United this summer, with the Blades recently bringing back goalkeeper Dean Henderson from Manchester United on loan for a second season, while Ben Osborn has also been signed from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee (per BBC Sport).

Sheffield United fans, will Morrison be a success at the club? Let us know!

Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard posts welcome snap for Harry Maguire on Instagram

It has finally happened – Manchester United have now officially confirmed the signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City.

The 26-year-old England international joins on a six-year contract and will also have an option to extend it for a further year if he wishes to do so in due time.

The Red Devils have broken the world record with this signing that’s reportedly worth £80m, making Maguire the most expensive defender in the world. The transfer eclipsed the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
